Make a new manual save, exit the game normally, verify that your platform has synchronized that save, and keep the original local data until version 2.0.0 has launched and loaded the expected file. Bandai Namco Entertainment America says the launch update for Tales of Eternia Remastered is version 2.0.0, requires an internet connection, and should be installed before playing. They do not publish a game-specific export command or a guaranteed menu path for this title, so the procedure below describes the actions to perform without inventing labels that may differ between system versions.
1. Create a clearly identifiable pre-update save
Start the game and reach a safe point where manual saving is allowed. Create a new save in an unused slot, or use a slot whose timestamp and location you can recognize. A separate slot is preferable to overwriting your only recent save because it leaves a fallback inside the game as well as in the cloud.
2. Close the software normally
Return to the game’s title or system interface and close the software through the ordinary quit command. Wait for the console to finish writing data before putting it to sleep or beginning the update. A save made moments before a forced shutdown may not be complete.
3. Confirm the cloud copy is current
Open the console’s Save Data Cloud controls for the user who owns the save and check the entry for Tales of Eternia Remastered. Verify that its last-synchronized time is later than the manual save you just made. If the displayed copy is older, keep the game closed and allow synchronization to finish before updating. 4. Install version 2.0.0
Start the update while connected to the internet. For Switch 2, plan for approximately 7 GB of download data; for Switch, plan for approximately 300 MB. Keep the console powered and connected until the installation reports completion.
5. Test the save before changing anything else
Launch the updated game and load the pre-update manual save. Check the party, equipment, inventory, map position, quest state, and a few settings that you know were changed. If all expected data is present, make another manual save in a new slot. Keep the original pre-update slot and the cloud copy until you have played enough to be confident that the update is stable.

The available official material confirms that version 2.0.0 targets both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, but it does not provide title-specific backup or restore instructions. Do not assume that a general PlayStation cloud menu, USB procedure, or console-generation workflow is identical for this game. Prepare a local checkpoint first

Install and test
Version 2.0.0 is listed at approximately 500 MB on PlayStation 5 and 1.3 GB on PlayStation 4. Leave additional free space for staging. Once the update finishes, launch the game and load the pre-update save. Save to a new slot after confirming that it opens correctly. If the game cannot load it, stop creating new saves and use the platform’s documented restore process so the still-preserved pre-update copy remains available.
Xbox Series X|S

How to verify that a backup is actually usable
A backup is useful only if it can be identified and restored. Perform these checks before updating:
- Timestamp: the cloud or external copy must be newer than the manual save you made.
- Identity: record the platform, user profile, date, and in-game save slot or location.
- Completeness: a file transfer or synchronization message must report success, not merely that it has started.
- Separation: keep the pre-update copy in its original location and store any manual copy separately.
- Recovery plan: know which platform control you will use to restore the copy before you need it.
Do not test a backup by deleting the only local save. The safest verification is metadata and synchronization status before the update, followed by a normal load test after the update.

The game starts, but the latest save is missing
Close the game without saving over other slots. Check that you are using the same console or Steam profile that created the save, then inspect the platform’s saved-data status. A profile mismatch can make a healthy save appear absent.
The platform asks which cloud version to keep
Do not select based only on the word newest. Compare the timestamps with the pre-update save you recorded. Preserve the copy made immediately before the update unless you have independently confirmed that another copy contains later, valid progress.

Stop launching repeated repair or overwrite operations. Keep the console or computer’s current local data untouched, then use the platform’s documented restore procedure with the pre-update copy. If no usable copy exists, contact the platform or publisher support rather than deleting files that might still be recoverable.

The update itself fails
Check the internet connection and available storage, then retry the update with the game closed. The approximate download sizes are 7 GB for Switch 2, 300 MB for Switch, 500 MB for PlayStation 5, 1.3 GB for PlayStation 4, 8 GB for Xbox Series X|S, and 7 GB for Steam; installation can require more temporary space. When it is safe to remove the old backup
