Where Crimson Desert save files are located
The save folder depends on your computer and, on Mac, how you installed the game. Open the matching path below:

On Windows, replace [Username] with your Windows account name. Pearl Abyss identifies the numeric-name subfolder inside save as the folder containing your in-game saves. These paths and folder guidance are in the Pearl Abyss Save Data Notice and its clean-install instructions.
How to back up Crimson Desert saves on PC or Mac
- Make a current in-game save. Crimson Desert supports automatic and manual saves. Pearl Abyss recommends saving frequently and keeping multiple save files.
- Open the correct save directory. Use the Windows or Mac path above that matches your system and game version.
- Copy the numeric-name folder. Copy it to a different drive or external storage, such as a USB flash drive. An existing external drive or other separate storage is fine; the backup should not remain only in the game directory.
- Wait for cloud synchronization to finish. On Steam, Pearl Abyss warns that closing Steam too quickly can prevent an upload from completing. Wait for synchronization to complete before closing the client or shutting down.
- Install the DLC and check your save. Confirm that your progress loads as expected, then keep the separate copy until you are satisfied the save is intact.
Pearl Abyss says a backup can be restored by copying the backup files back into the same save directory. If a cloud-conflict prompt appears, compare the local and cloud save dates and times before choosing; do not overwrite files without checking which copy has the latest progress.

Local backup or cloud save: which protects your progress?

A cloud save and a separate file copy serve different purposes. Cross-save support, added in Update 1.14 on July 16, 2026, does not replace keeping an independent backup, according to Pearl Abyss.
Cloud-save checks for Steam and PlayStation
Steam
Wait for Steam Cloud synchronization to finish before exiting Steam or shutting down. If you played offline, verify that the latest local progress has uploaded before installing an update or launching online; otherwise, a stale cloud copy could replace newer local progress.

When console and cloud saves differ, compare the dates and times shown for each before choosing. Pearl Abyss also describes checking synchronization status from the PlayStation home screen and warns against putting the console into rest mode immediately after exiting while an upload is still underway.

The file paths above are for PC and Mac, not PlayStation or Xbox. Pearl Abyss’s notice discusses console cloud-save synchronization, but does not establish a manual console export procedure. Use the relevant platform’s cloud-save status and conflict information rather than trying to use a computer save-folder path for a console save.
