To save a GST Portal page as an offline HTML file, open it in your signed-in browser, wait until the information you need is visible, then click the SingleFile extension button. SingleFile packages the rendered page and its resources into one HTML file, normally saved in the browser’s download folder. Open that file offline to check what was preserved. Keep any official return download separately: an HTML snapshot is a convenient view of a page, not a certified GST record or a substitute for portal data files.
Save a GST Portal page with SingleFile
- Sign in and open the page. Navigate to the GST Portal page you want to retain. For GSTR-2B, the GST Portal FAQ gives this route: Services > Returns > Returns Dashboard > File Returns > GSTR 2B tile. The statement can be viewed or downloaded after it has been generated. Other pages may have different navigation. See the GST Portal GSTR-2B FAQ.
- Wait for the content to finish loading. Make sure the relevant text, tables, and other visible information are actually on the page. SingleFile captures the current page state; content that has not loaded or requires a separate action or page may not be included.
- Save the current tab. Click the SingleFile toolbar button. Its context menu also provides options to save selected content, a selected frame, or multiple tabs. By default, the file goes to the browser’s configured download folder. Consult the SingleFile project documentation if the extension controls differ in your browser.
- Check the saved file. Open the downloaded HTML file locally, preferably with the network disconnected. Confirm the information you need is present and readable before relying on it as an archive.
What an offline HTML snapshot preserves—and what it does not
SingleFile saves the page as rendered in the browser, along with resources it can package into one HTML file. That is useful for retaining the visible context and layout of a GST Portal page. It is not a backup of your GST account or a guarantee that the page will behave like the live portal.
Interactive elements such as folding sections, dynamic maps, and carousels may not work properly in the saved file. SingleFile removes scripts by default, and its FAQ does not guarantee offline operation of interactive content. Do not expect the archive to submit forms, preserve a live session, or reproduce a complete filing workflow. See the SingleFile FAQ.
Keep portal downloads as well when you need structured records
A saved HTML page and a portal-native download serve different purposes. The HTML file is a local snapshot of the page’s appearance and context; a portal download gives you data in an offered structured format. For example, the GST Portal FAQ lists Excel and JSON downloads for GSTR-2B. GST guidance also describes downloading e-invoice details in Excel. If you need the underlying records for retention or processing, download them from the portal and keep them alongside the HTML snapshot.

Archiving is not filing a GST return
SingleFile only creates a page archive. The GST offline return tool is a separate workflow: its manual says it cannot sign or submit a return. The taxpayer uploads the return to the portal, checks the summary, and electronically signs there. An archived HTML page does none of those things. Troubleshoot common archiving problems
- The saved file is missing data. The content may not have loaded or may require another action or a different page. Return to the live portal, display the exact content you need, save again, and inspect the result.
- A control or interactive section does not work offline. That can happen because scripts are removed by default and offline behavior for interactive elements is not guaranteed. Treat the file as a snapshot, not as a working portal session.
- SingleFile cannot access a local HTML file. Chrome extensions cannot access pages on the local filesystem by default. This setting matters if you want the extension to process a file already saved on your computer; it is not normally needed to save a live GST Portal tab. See the SingleFile FAQ.
- You need a dependable record of return data. Save the official portal download in its available format as well as, or instead of, the HTML snapshot, depending on what you need to retain.
