Use gun grease only at the points specified in the current owner’s manual for your exact firearm, and apply only the small amount the manual calls for. There is no universal grease map: one model may specify grease behind bolt locking lugs, another may call for it in a particular pocket, and a different component—such as the Springfield Armory Echelon striker—may be marked as a no-lubricant area.
Make the firearm safe before maintenance
Follow the safety procedure in the manual for your make and model. As an example, Springfield Armory’s Echelon manual instructs the user to point the firearm in a safe direction, remove the magazine, separate ammunition from the firearm, and check that the chamber and magazine well are empty. Use your own manual’s procedure rather than assuming every model is handled identically.

Find the lubrication points for your exact model
Locate the lubrication section or diagram in the current owner’s manual before choosing a grease or applying it. GLOCK directs owners to the manual for their particular model’s lubrication locations and amounts. Do not transfer an instruction from one firearm to another, even if the parts seem similar.
- The SIG50 manual excerpt hosted by ManyManuals describes a light film behind the bolt locking lugs and warns against over-greasing. Because that text is hosted by a third party, check the current official manual before treating it as current guidance for a specific firearm.
- Ruger’s LC Carbine manual describes a small amount of grease in the hammer-toggle pocket and mentions a small stick or pipe cleaner as a way to reach that named pocket.
- Springfield Armory’s Echelon manual explicitly says not to apply oil or grease to the striker.
These are model-specific examples, not interchangeable instructions. If your manual does not identify a grease point, do not infer one from another model’s diagram.

- USED BY U.S. SPECIAL FORCES WORLDWIDE: TW25B is uniquely engineered, made in America and is used by U.S. Special Forces.
- SUPER LUBRICATION and PROTECTION: Preferred lubricant on heavy weaponry, AR's, all firearms, shotguns and handguns while protecting wear parts and bore.
- OPTIMIZED FOR PERFORMANCE and REDUCED MAINTENANCE: Ensures firing reliability in extreme temperature conditions ( -90°F (-67°C) to +450°F (232°C) and is the most durable extreme performance lubricant available.
- LOWEST COST GUN LUBE PER APPLICATION: Our product is the longest lasting gun lubricant on the market. Live-fire trials and laboratory testing have shown TW25B enables firing of 6 to 10 times more rounds between cleanings while using a fraction of our lubricant when compared to other products.
- USED: With complete safety worldwide since 1987
Apply only the prescribed amount at the named point
Clean the specified part as the manual directs, then use firearm-suitable grease only where that manual calls for it. Follow its wording for quantity: the examples above use terms such as “light film” or “small amount,” not a universal number of drops or a standard bead size. Use a precision applicator only when it is appropriate for the manual’s instructions; a tool mentioned for one model’s pocket is not automatically suitable elsewhere.
Keep grease away from parts the manual identifies as prohibited. The Echelon manual says not to lubricate its striker. The SIG50 excerpt warns against allowing grease to enter the trigger because it may create an unsafe condition. Neither instruction should be generalized into a substitute for your firearm’s own manual.

Remove unwanted excess and follow the manual before use
Too much lubricant can cause problems: Ruger warns that excess oil can attract dust and dirt or congeal in cold weather, interfering with safe and reliable function, while GLOCK cautions that excessive lubrication can affect pistol performance. Wipe away lubricant that has spread beyond the specified point, then follow the manual’s inspection and function-check directions.
Storage instructions can change what to do before returning a firearm to use. The SIG50 excerpt says to remove excess lubrication after storage and to clean and wipe the chamber and bore dry before reuse. That is a model-specific direction; consult your own manual rather than applying it universally.

Choose grease by the manual, not by a universal “best” list
A firearm-specific gun grease is not automatically suitable for every firearm or component. Lubriplate identifies SFL Gun Grease for selected firearm parts, but a product description does not override the firearm manufacturer’s instructions. Before using any firearm lubricant, verify that your manual calls for grease at the target point and that the product is suitable for that component. Favor an approach that lets you place a controlled, small amount, and observe any environmental or storage instructions in the manual.
