You can apply for the Jio Platforms IPO through an IPO-enabled intermediary by entering your own PAN-linked UPI ID, approving the block mandate in your UPI app, and using an active demat account for any shares allotted. The application is not complete when you merely submit the bid: the mandate must be authorised before the official deadline.

Jio Platforms filed its red herring prospectus (RHP) on October 14, 2026. The retrieved RHP extract still contains placeholders for the anchor date, bid opening date, bid closing date and UPI-mandate end date, so verify those items in the final official issue advertisement or prospectus before entering an application.

What is the Jio Platforms IPO status?

Jio Platforms Limited is proposing an IPO through a fresh issue, subject to statutory and regulatory approvals. Reliance Industries disclosed on June 19, 2026 that the proposed fresh issue could contain up to 27,00,00,000 equity shares with a face value of ₹10 each. The issue price is to be discovered through book building rather than being fixed in that earlier filing.

The company filed its RHP on October 14, 2026 after the draft-red-herring-prospectus process and SEBI’s observation letter. An RHP is not the same as a final, actionable timetable. In the available extract, the fields for the anchor-investor date, bid or issue opening date, bid or issue closing date and UPI mandate end date are still placeholders. Do not rely on social-media posts, forwarded messages or unofficial price bands and lot sizes. Confirm the completed details in the final Jio Platforms, SEBI, NSE, BSE or book-running lead-manager issue documents.

Until those fields are filled in an official document, nobody can state the confirmed opening date, closing date, price band, minimum lot or the amount required for one lot from this information alone.

What you need before starting

The UPI route is an ASBA-style application. Your money stays blocked in your bank account instead of being transferred immediately, and only the amount needed for shares actually allotted is debited. You need all of the following:

Requirement What to verify Why it matters
Active demat account The account is open, operational and in the applicant’s name. Allotted equity shares are credited to this account.
Eligible IPO intermediary A SEBI-registered stock broker, bank, syndicate member, registrar and transfer agent, or depository participant that accepts IPO applications. SEBI permits UPI IPO forms only through these eligible channels.
PAN-linked bank account The bank account belongs to the applicant and can block the application amount. Third-party bank accounts are not considered for allocation.
Personal UPI ID The UPI handle is linked to the applicant’s own bank account and appears on SEBI’s public-issue list of supported apps and handles. A third-party UPI ID is not accepted for allocation.
Available balance Enough cleared funds remain in the linked account for the maximum amount you bid. The mandate cannot block money that is unavailable, and a failed block leaves the bid incomplete.
Correct demat and identity details Name, PAN, demat number, bank account and UPI identity match exactly. Mismatches can cause rejection or prevent allocation.

SEBI’s current guidance describes the ₹5 lakh UPI limit as a per-transaction limit for retail individual investors. That ceiling does not replace the issue’s own investor-category rules or minimum-lot requirements.

How to apply through UPI: the complete procedure

1. Choose an IPO-enabled intermediary

Sign in to a SEBI-registered broker, bank, syndicate member, registrar and transfer agent, or depository participant that supports IPO applications through UPI. The exact menu name differs by provider, but it is usually labelled IPO, Public Issues or Investments. If the provider cannot display the Jio Platforms issue in its official IPO section, do not submit details through a third-party form.

Confirm that the demat account shown by the intermediary is yours. The intermediary is the channel through which the bid is entered; the demat account is the destination for any allotment.

2. Confirm the final issue information

Open the Jio Platforms issue only from the intermediary’s authenticated IPO area or an official issue page. Before proceeding, read the final issue advertisement or prospectus for:

  • the bid opening and closing dates;
  • the price band and any permitted bid increments;
  • the minimum lot and maximum quantity;
  • the investor categories and category-specific limits;
  • the cut-off option, if offered to retail investors; and
  • the deadline by which the UPI mandate must be approved.

The RHP extract available for this issue does not fill in those dates. Treat every value supplied by an unofficial source as unverified until it appears in the finalized official material.

3. Select the applicant and investor category

Choose the correct applicant profile and category, normally Retail Individual Investor when applying as an eligible retail investor. Use the PAN associated with that applicant. Do not use a family member’s PAN, demat account or bank account simply because that person is available to approve the payment.

4. Enter quantity and price

Enter a quantity in multiples of the final lot size and select a permitted bid price. If the final documents offer a retail cut-off choice, selecting cut-off instructs the system to accept the eventual discovered price within the stated band. If you enter a specific price, it must satisfy the issue’s price and tick-size rules. Because the final price band and lot size are not present in the retrieved extract, wait for the completed issue documents before calculating the required amount.

5. Enter your own UPI ID

Choose UPI as the payment method and type the UPI ID connected to the applicant’s own PAN-linked bank account. Check every character before submitting. SEBI expressly states that a third-party UPI ID or a third-party bank account will not be considered for allocation. The person whose name appears on the IPO application, PAN, demat account and bank account should be the same applicant.

6. Review and submit the bid

Review the on-screen summary before pressing Submit. Check the applicant name, PAN, demat details, category, quantity, price or cut-off instruction, bank-linked UPI ID and total application amount. Save the application number or acknowledgement generated by the intermediary. An acknowledgement shows that the bid was sent to the processing system; it does not prove that the UPI mandate has been authorised.

7. Find the block request in your UPI app

NPCI describes the sequence as follows: the subscriber submits the form with a UPI ID, receives a block-mandate request in the UPI application, enters the UPI PIN and has the application amount blocked in the bank account. Open the UPI app associated with the ID you entered and look under pending mandates, collect requests or IPO requests, depending on the app’s label.

Check that the request identifies the correct IPO, applicant and amount. A request that arrives in a different UPI app or shows an unexpected amount should not be approved; contact the intermediary through its official support channel instead.

8. Authorise the mandate before the deadline

Open the request, confirm the details and enter your UPI PIN. The PIN authorises a block; it is not a request to transfer the entire amount immediately. The bid remains incomplete until the mandate is approved within the deadline shown in the final issue documents.

The available RHP extract specifies a UPI-mandate end time of 5:00 p.m. Indian Standard Time on the bid or issue closing date, but the date itself is still a placeholder. Use the exact date and time printed in the finalized issue advertisement rather than assuming that every IPO follows the same calendar.

9. Keep the money available through allotment

Do not withdraw or spend the blocked amount while the application is pending. A bank may show the funds as blocked, lien-marked or unavailable for other payments. The block is not a final debit: the amount is debited only for shares allotted. If the application receives a partial allotment, the amount for the allotted shares is debited and the unused portion is unblocked. If there is no allotment, the blocked amount is released through the mandate’s end or expiry process.

What happens after you approve the UPI mandate?

  1. Bid validation: The intermediary, exchange and issue systems check the application data, investor category, PAN and demat details.
  2. Blocked funds: The bank reserves the application amount under the UPI mandate. You cannot use that reserved portion until it is released or debited.
  3. Basis of allotment: After the issue closes, shares are allocated under the finalized rules. Approval of the mandate does not guarantee an allotment.
  4. Debit or release: The bank debits only the amount corresponding to shares allotted. Any balance for unallotted shares is unblocked; a fully unsuccessful application is released after the mandate expires or is cancelled through the issue process.
  5. Demat credit: Allotted shares are credited to the demat account entered in the application. Check the account and the intermediary’s allotment or transaction record rather than relying only on a UPI notification.

Release timing can vary with bank, intermediary and registrar processing. If the mandate has ended but the lien remains, retain the application number and contact the intermediary and bank with the mandate reference.

UPI rules that can invalidate an application

  • Third-party credentials: The UPI ID and bank account must belong to the applicant. A spouse’s, parent’s, friend’s or company’s payment account cannot be substituted for a personal retail application.
  • Unsupported handle or app: Use only a mobile application and UPI handle appearing on SEBI’s public-issue list or supported by the eligible intermediary.
  • Exceeding the retail limit: SEBI’s stated limit is ₹5 lakh per UPI transaction for retail individual investors. The limit is not permission to bypass category or issue restrictions.
  • Identity mismatch: Differences among the PAN, applicant name, demat account, bank account and UPI identity can lead to rejection.
  • Late approval: Submitting the form without authorising the mandate before the official cut-off leaves the payment step unfinished.
  • Insufficient balance: The bank cannot create the required block if the cleared balance is too low or another lien has reduced availability.
  • Duplicate bids: Do not submit multiple applications for the same applicant and PAN unless the final issue rules expressly permit the structure. Use the intermediary’s correction or withdrawal controls where available.

Do you need a demat account?

Yes. An active demat account is required for this application route because the shares, if allotted, must be credited electronically. A UPI ID by itself is not an IPO application account. Opening a demat account and opening a bank account are separate steps, although the bank and intermediary may offer both services.

Before applying, verify the demat account number, beneficiary-owner name and PAN in the IPO form. If the account is frozen, closed, suspended or held in a different name, resolve that issue with the depository participant first. A successful UPI block cannot correct an invalid demat destination.

UPI versus bank ASBA

UPI and bank-based ASBA use the same core protection: funds remain blocked until allotment and are debited only as required. The practical differences are in how you submit the bid and authorise the block.

Factor UPI application Bank ASBA application
Submission channel Eligible stock broker, bank, syndicate member, registrar and transfer agent, or depository participant that supports UPI IPO bids. An eligible bank’s ASBA channel, subject to that bank’s available branch or online process.
Payment authorisation A pending mandate appears in the linked UPI app; you approve it with the UPI PIN. The bank places a block under its ASBA process; there is no separate UPI mandate approval.
Timing risk The form and mandate must both be completed before the stated deadlines. The bank must receive and process the ASBA application before its cut-off.
Bid changes Revision or cancellation controls depend on the intermediary and the issue rules. Revision or cancellation controls depend on the bank and the issue rules.
Fund protection Funds remain blocked and are debited only for allotted shares. Funds remain blocked and are debited only for allotted shares.
Release of unused funds Unallotted or unused amounts are released through the mandate’s expiry or release process. The bank removes the ASBA block for the unallotted amount under its process.

Choose the channel you can monitor reliably. UPI is convenient when you can respond promptly to a mobile mandate; bank ASBA may be preferable if your bank’s ASBA workflow is already familiar and you do not want a separate UPI approval step.

Broker app versus bank or depository-participant submission

Question Broker app Bank or DP channel
Eligibility Must be SEBI-registered and IPO-enabled, with your demat details linked correctly. Must be an eligible bank, depository participant, syndicate member or other permitted intermediary.
UPI support Usually integrated into the online IPO form, but support depends on the provider. May offer UPI, bank ASBA or both; confirm the method before entering the bid.
Bid revision Often displayed in the application history, subject to issue cut-offs and provider controls. May require the bank or DP’s specific revision procedure.
Records Provides an electronic acknowledgement and application history. Provides a bank or DP acknowledgement and its own application record.
Best check Confirm the displayed demat account and personal UPI ID before submission. Confirm the form is being accepted for the correct issue and investor category.

No channel can waive the official issue rules. A convenient interface does not make a third-party UPI ID valid or extend the mandate deadline.

Troubleshooting common problems

The mandate never appears

  • Confirm that the UPI ID was typed correctly and belongs to an app on the supported list.
  • Open the UPI app’s pending or collect-request section instead of waiting only for a push notification.
  • Check that the bank account is active and has enough available balance.
  • Contact the intermediary before the deadline; submitting the bid again can create confusion or a duplicate request.

The mandate is rejected or expires

Read the bank’s rejection reason. Insufficient balance, a blocked account, an incorrect UPI PIN, a technical outage or approval after the deadline can prevent completion. A rejected or expired mandate does not become valid merely because the bid acknowledgement exists. Ask the intermediary whether the bid can be corrected or resubmitted within the official window.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The amount is blocked but the application is not visible

Keep the UPI mandate reference, application number, PAN and timestamp. Contact the intermediary first, then the bank if the intermediary confirms that the mandate was received. Do not cancel the block or file a second application until you know whether the original bid is recorded.

Unallotted money remains blocked

Compare the bank’s lien or block status with the official allotment and mandate-expiry information. Release can occur after the allotment process rather than immediately after the result is announced. If the stated release window has passed, provide the application and mandate references to both the intermediary and bank for tracing.

You entered the wrong quantity or price

Use the intermediary’s revision or withdrawal function only while the final issue rules permit it. A revised bid may generate a new mandate or change the blocked amount; approve the latest valid request and ensure older requests are cancelled or expire according to the provider’s instructions.

Safety checks before you approve anything

  • Start from the authenticated IPO section of your intermediary or an official issue communication.
  • Match the issue name, applicant identity and amount shown in the UPI request with your submitted bid.
  • Never disclose your UPI PIN, one-time password or banking password to a caller, chat agent or website.
  • Remember that approving a legitimate mandate blocks funds; it does not guarantee shares or a profit.
  • Save the application number, mandate reference and screenshots of the confirmation pages until the funds are released and the demat credit is visible.

Quick application checklist

  1. Open or verify an active demat account in the applicant’s name.
  2. Use a SEBI-registered, IPO-enabled intermediary.
  3. Read the final official issue documents for dates, price band, lot size and investor limits.
  4. Use the applicant’s PAN-linked bank account and personal supported UPI ID.
  5. Enter the bid quantity and price or cut-off choice exactly as permitted.
  6. Save the acknowledgement number.
  7. Open the pending UPI mandate, verify the IPO and amount, and approve it with the UPI PIN before the stated deadline.
  8. Keep sufficient funds blocked until allotment and release processing is complete.
  9. Check the allotment result, bank release and demat credit using official records.

What to remember about the Jio Platforms application

The October 14, 2026 RHP confirms that the proposed issue has progressed beyond the draft stage, but it does not supply every actionable field in the extract available here. The safe approach is therefore procedural: wait for finalized official dates and pricing, apply through an eligible intermediary, use only the applicant’s own PAN-linked UPI and bank account, approve the block mandate on time, and monitor both the demat account and bank block until allotment is settled.
