Choose a tool—such as text, arrow, shape, pen, or blur—set its options, and click or drag on the screenshot. If the editor does not appear, change the extension’s Skip Annotating setting to Never.
Capture the webpage and open the annotation editor
- Capture the page with the Awesome Screenshot extension. Its help guide says the annotation toolbar appears on the follow-up page after capture.
- Choose an annotation tool from the toolbar. Depending on the interface, controls may appear in a basic sidebar or an advanced top toolbar; the help describes both.
- Mark up the screenshot using the instructions below, then review the result before sharing or downloading it.
The documented workflow is for the extension. Control placement and feature availability may differ among browsers or versions; the available help does not establish identical interfaces everywhere. Awesome Screenshot’s editing guide also describes additional editing controls, but does not establish that every control appears identically in every browser version.
Add arrows, shapes, and lines
- Select the rectangle, ellipse, arrow, or pen tool.
- Choose the desired color and thickness if those options are shown.
- Click and drag across the screenshot to draw and size the mark.
To refine a mark, hover over its border and drag to move it. Select its border to reveal blue control points, then drag a point to resize. For an arrow, move either endpoint to change its direction. Select an annotation to adjust its color or thickness using the toolbar.
Add a text label
- Select the text icon.
- Set available text options, such as font size and color.
- Click the spot on the screenshot where the label belongs.
- Type in the text box that appears.
Crop or blur the screenshot
Crop to focus on an area
- Select Crop and drag over the area to keep.
- Adjust the selection with its edge handles.
- Click Crop to apply it.
Blur private details before sharing
Select the Blur tool and drag over the area you want obscured. Review the result before sharing, especially if the screenshot contains personal, account, or other sensitive information.

Can’t find the annotation tools?
The editor may be skipped because of the extension’s Skip Annotating preference. Open the extension’s Options and set Skip Annotating to Never if you want the annotation step after captures. The help page lists three choices: Never, Always, and Only When Capturing Full Page. Its instruction is: “If you want to annotate during the capturing process, please select Never.” The vendor’s editing guide describes controls broadly; exact placement can depend on which annotation interface is open.
What happens in the basic and advanced annotation interfaces?
The help describes a basic sidebar and an advanced top toolbar. It says annotations made on the current page are transferred to the advanced annotation page. It does not document a complete feature-by-feature comparison or establish consistent control labels across browsers, so use the controls visible in your current editor rather than assuming every interface is identical.
