To change how loud one app is, use its slider in the expanded volume panel. To send an app’s media to a different output—such as playing navigation through your phone while music goes to a Bluetooth speaker—use Separate app sound. These are different controls: routing changes where sound plays, not its independent volume.
Choose the setting that matches what you want

Samsung’s menu names and screens can vary by model, carrier, region, and software version. If a path below does not match your phone, search Settings for the named feature. Samsung notes that settings can vary.
Adjust an individual app’s volume
- Start media playback in the app whose volume you want to change.
- Press a physical volume button on the phone.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the volume panel to expand it.
- When the app’s slider appears, drag it up or down to adjust that app’s media level.
An app may need to be playing media—or to have appeared in the panel—before its individual slider is shown. Samsung documents this per-app slider flow in its volume-control instructions.
If you need more app-level controls
Samsung’s Sound Assistant listing describes individual application volume controls, but notes that some devices may not be supported. It is an optional, device-dependent utility, not a requirement for the built-in volume-panel method. See Sound Assistant in Galaxy Store.

Route an app’s sound with Separate app sound
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Separate app sound. If you cannot find the menu, use Settings search for “Separate app sound.”
- Turn on Separate app sound.
- Select the media apps you want to route. If needed, tap Add apps.
- Choose the destination, such as Phone or a connected Bluetooth device.
- Return to the previous screen. Reopen Separate app sound later to change the selected apps or destination.
The selected destination must be different from the phone’s main audio output. For example, you could route navigation audio to the phone while music plays through a vehicle’s Bluetooth audio system. A Bluetooth destination may only appear while that device is connected. Samsung’s Separate app sound instructions describe the routing requirement and setup.
Fix common problems
Separate app sound is missing
Search Settings for the exact phrase “Separate app sound.” If it still does not appear, availability may depend on your Galaxy model, region, carrier software, and One UI version. Samsung says settings and screens can vary by software version or carrier. Check Samsung’s settings guidance.

The Bluetooth device is not listed
Connect the speaker or headset first, then return to Separate app sound and check the destination choices. Samsung says Bluetooth may only be offered when a device is connected. Samsung support.
The selected app still plays through the main output
Reopen Separate app sound and verify that its destination differs from the phone’s current main audio output. The feature routes selected app media to a separate output; it does not override the requirement that the two outputs be different. Samsung support.

The individual app volume slider does not appear
Expand the volume panel with its three-dot menu while the target app is playing media. If the slider remains unavailable, Sound Assistant may provide additional individual-app controls on supported devices. Samsung’s volume instructions; Sound Assistant listing.
