You can prepare a queue of videos in vMix, but its documentation does not guarantee that editing a playlist already in use will leave the live output uninterrupted. First distinguish a vMix PlayList from a vMix List: both control what vMix plays, while YouTube Live is the separate destination for the stream. If the broadcast is already on air, test the exact edit in your vMix version and setup before relying on it.
Understand which playlist you mean
“YouTube playlist” can mean two different things here. vMix’s PlayList sequences vMix inputs; its List plays video and audio files through one input. YouTube Live setup connects vMix to the live broadcast, but does not provide a way to insert individual clips into the outgoing stream.

Prepare a vMix PlayList
- Open the PlayList window using the cog beside the PlayList control.
- Under Available Inputs, select the video input you want to include, then click the right arrow to add it to the playlist.
- Set the item’s duration, transition, transition time, and starting position as needed.
- Use the PlayList’s Next and Previous controls to move through items. If you do not want automatic advancement, enable Manual Mode; the next item will wait until you click Next.
These controls are documented for vMix PlayList configuration. The documentation does not establish that adding or changing an item while the playlist is already running is interruption-free.
Use List for a queue of media files
- Choose the vMix List input when you want multiple video or audio files to play as one input.
- In the List editing tab, use Add to add files. Use Edit or Remove to change the queue.
- Choose whether Auto Next should advance through the files automatically, and enable Loop if the list should repeat.
List is useful when you want a file queue managed as one input; vMix’s guide notes that it can avoid loading all videos at once. As with PlayList, the available documentation does not promise that editing a live queue cannot affect playback.

What to do when the stream is already live
Do not assume that adding a file to a running PlayList or List is safe for the on-air output. The official vMix material describes playlist and list controls but does not specify whether live edits interrupt, skip, or alter the current item. Behavior may depend on the vMix version and configuration.
- Before the broadcast: build and verify the queue before going live whenever possible.
- If a live change is necessary: reproduce the same queue, settings, and edit in the exact vMix version off-air. Confirm that the current item continues as expected and that the next item plays correctly before making the production change.
- Keep the YouTube connection separate: adding or sequencing content is a vMix playback task. YouTube Live connection setup uses a destination or a stream created in YouTube Studio with a stream key.
The cited YouTube setup guides explain connecting to a live stream; they do not describe inserting individual clips into the YouTube stream itself. Do not restart the YouTube broadcast merely because you are changing a vMix queue unless your tested workflow or configuration requires it.
