To show Super Chat alerts on a 24/7 YouTube stream, first make sure the channel and stream are eligible for Super Chat. Then connect an alert provider such as Streamlabs, add its alert widget to your OBS scene as a Browser Source, and test the overlay before going live. The alert widget handles the visual notification; it does not keep the stream or encoder running, so those need separate monitoring for a continuous broadcast.
1. Check that the channel and stream can use Super Chat
Super Chat and Super Stickers require fan-funding eligibility, availability in the creator’s location, and acceptance of the applicable terms. YouTube also excludes age-restricted, unlisted, private, and made-for-kids videos, as well as streams with live chat or comments turned off. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab and review YouTube’s Super Chat eligibility, availability and policies.
YouTube lists an expanded YouTube Partner Program access tier of 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. These are entry thresholds for expanded YPP, not a guarantee that every channel or feature qualifies: Super Chat has feature-specific conditions and location availability. Confirm the channel’s actual feature status in the Earn tab and consult YouTube’s monetization requirements.
2. Enable Super Chat and connect an alert provider
- Turn on Super Chat first. In YouTube Studio, check the Earn tab for access and enable the feature if it is available. You cannot configure a working Super Chat alert for a channel that has not enabled the feature.
- Link the channel in your alert provider. For Streamlabs, sign in with Google and link the YouTube channel. YouTube’s third-party integration instructions identify turning on Super Chat as a prerequisite.
- Configure the Super Chat event. In Streamlabs, open the Alert Box settings and configure the Super Chat alert’s appearance and behavior. Streamlabs documents Super Chats as a supported YouTube Alert Box event in its alert setup guide.
- Copy the Alert Box widget URL. You will use this URL as the source address in OBS. Keep it private: it is the link to your alert overlay.
3. Add the alert to OBS as a Browser Source
OBS does not provide stream alerts directly; an alert provider supplies the overlay, which OBS can display through a Browser Source. Follow the OBS stream alerts FAQ and Streamlabs’ instructions for adding its widget URL:

- Open OBS and select the scene where the alert should appear.
- In the Sources box, click + and choose Browser.
- Name the source, then paste the Streamlabs Alert Box widget URL into the URL field.
- Set the Browser Source width and height to suit your stream canvas and overlay design.
- Position and resize the source in the preview so alerts remain visible without covering essential content.
- Repeat for every scene where you want alerts to appear, or make the source available to those scenes using OBS’s scene and source arrangement.
Alert placement depends on the provider widget and your scene layout. Check the overlay at the size viewers will see, and avoid placing it over text, important video, or other on-screen information.
4. Test the overlay before the broadcast
Use the provider’s test function to trigger a sample alert. Confirm that it renders in the intended OBS scene, is legible at the actual stream layout size, and does not obscure other content. A provider test checks that the overlay can render; it does not prove that YouTube has delivered a real Super Chat event to the provider.

Before going live, preview the stream and check audio and video. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend verifying stream accessibility and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. Treat these as distinct checks: the provider’s channel authorization, live-chat connection, browser-source rendering, encoder health, network stability, and audio/video output can each fail independently.
5. Keep alerts and the 24/7 stream working over time
Check the alert path
- Confirm the provider remains linked to the correct YouTube channel.
- Make sure the Browser Source is still present and visible in every scene that should show alerts.
- If alerts stop appearing, test the widget again and check the provider’s connection and live-chat status before assuming OBS is at fault.
Monitor the encoder and stream
A working alert overlay is not a reliability system for the broadcast. For an OBS-based continuous stream, plan how the computer, encoder, network connection, and alert source will stay active and how someone will notice if one stops working. YouTube advises previewing the stream, checking that it is accessible, monitoring audio and video, and checking local archive file growth during encoder events. Its live-stream tools and services page explains that external applications can use the Live Chat API to display live comments and Super Chats, and notes that listed third-party products are not made or endorsed by Google.

Do not rely on a complete YouTube archive for a 24/7 broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, while “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as certain to produce a complete automatic archive. If keeping a recording matters, retain a local recording or consider shorter broadcast segments when that suits the project. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
