1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAdd a route-specific Schema.org HowTo object as JSON-LD, generated from the same data that renders the page’s visible instructions. You can include the script in server-rendered or statically generated HTML, or inject it with React on the client. Google can read dynamically injected JSON-LD, but its JavaScript rendering process is queued and timing can vary. Most importantly, Google discontinued HowTo rich results in September 2023: valid markup describes your content, but it does not earn a HowTo search feature.
Does Google still show HowTo rich results?
No. Google says HowTo rich results stopped appearing on desktop on September 13, 2023, and the result type is deprecated. Its earlier change had already limited the feature to desktop. That history matters if you are adding markup to a React tool page: implement it to describe genuine instructions accurately, not to target a currently available Google HowTo snippet. See Google’s announcement on HowTo and FAQ rich-result changes.
Schema.org still defines the HowTo type and its step-related properties. That vocabulary remains useful for describing a procedure, but its existence does not mean Google Search displays a matching result. Google also does not require HowTo JSON-LD for indexing, and correct markup is not a promise of rankings or a particular search presentation.
How do I add HowTo schema in React?
Start with page data that drives both the instructions readers see and the JSON-LD you emit. This keeps titles and steps from diverging as the tool page changes. Only include details the page supports: for example, omit totalTime if you do not know the duration, and do not invent tools or supplies to make the object look complete.

1. Define route-specific instructions
A simplified data object might look like this:
const howTo = {
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "HowTo",
"name": "Convert an image to WebP",
"description": "Use the image tool to convert a supported image file to WebP.",
"step": [
{
"@type": "HowToStep",
"name": "Choose an image",
"text": "Select a supported image file in the converter."
},
{
"@type": "HowToStep",
"name": "Convert and download",
"text": "Run the conversion, then download the WebP file."
}
]
};
This is an illustrative shape, not a tested converter or a claim about any specific tool. On a real page, make each step match the controls and outcome actually available there. Schema.org also defines HowToDirection, HowToSection, HowToTool and HowToSupply for suitable cases. Consult the Schema.org HowTo reference for the vocabulary.
2. Render the same steps visibly
Use the route’s data object to render the human-readable title, description and ordered instructions, as well as its structured data. Google’s general structured-data guidance says markup should represent content users can see on the page; hidden or misleading instructions are not an appropriate shortcut. Review Google’s structured-data policies.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Compact and Lightweight: Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces. The 1/4" impact driver has a length of 5.55 in. and weighs just 2.8 lbs, while the 1/2" drill/driver measures only 7.5 in. and weighs 3.6 lbs
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and electric drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
- Power drill cordless with 1/2" single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength, making bit changes faster and more secure
3. Serialize JSON-LD safely
A small React component can serialize the object into a JSON-LD script element:
function HowToJsonLd({ howTo }) {
const json = JSON.stringify(howTo).replace(/</g, '\u003c');
return (
<script
type="application/ld+json"
dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{ __html: json }}
/>
);
}
Replacing literal less-than signs prevents serialized data from containing an HTML closing-script sequence. Keep interpolated content as data: do not construct JSON by concatenating raw user input. This is generic React guidance, not a helper prescribed by React; follow the security and metadata conventions of your framework. React documents script elements and server rendering separately.

Should JSON-LD be server-rendered or injected with JavaScript?
Both approaches can work for Google. Google recommends JSON-LD as an easy-to-maintain format and says it can read JSON-LD injected dynamically into page content. The implementation choice is chiefly about when the markup becomes available and what your app can render.
| Approach | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Server-rendered or statically generated HTML | Route data is available during server or build rendering, and you want JSON-LD in the initial HTML response. | Requires passing route data into the server or static template. |
| Client-side JavaScript injection | The page is client-rendered, or schema data is only available after client code runs. | Google supports injected JSON-LD, but Googlebot queues eligible pages for rendering and timing can vary. |
Google’s JavaScript SEO documentation explains that it fetches eligible pages and then queues them for rendering; rendered HTML is used for indexing. That makes initial server or static output a robustness choice when practical, not a Google requirement. See Google’s JavaScript SEO basics. If you render HTML with React, choose the server API that fits the application: renderToStaticMarkup produces non-interactive HTML that cannot be hydrated, so it is not a substitute for the usual server-render-and-hydrate path of an interactive app. React documents the distinction in its renderToStaticMarkup reference.

How should you verify the markup?
- Check the page itself. Confirm it contains a genuine, visible procedure, and that the route has its own accurate title and ordered steps.
- Inspect the output. Examine the delivered HTML or rendered DOM and confirm the JSON-LD script appears with valid JSON and the expected route data.
- Check after deployment. Inspect production output too; a template or serving change can break markup that looked correct locally.
- Use validation for what it can establish. Google’s general structured-data guidance explains supported formats and validation. Parsing success is evidence that the markup is readable, not a guarantee of a search feature. Google’s HowTo rich-result support was discontinued, so validation should not be treated as a route to HowTo presentation.
Google recommends JSON-LD and explicitly notes that it can read dynamically injected JSON-LD. For practical details, see its introduction to structured data.
