Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo add social login to WordPress, install a social-login plugin, connect it to each identity provider you want to offer, test the connection, and then enable it. This guide uses Nextend Social Login as a documented example; its free version supports Facebook, Google, and X, while the vendor lists other providers and named integrations as Pro features.
Before you start: choose providers and check your forms
Pick the providers your visitors are likely to use, then check where people register or sign in on your site. A plugin may add buttons to WordPress’s default login form without automatically supporting every theme, store, or membership form.
Nextend’s WordPress.org listing says the free version supports Facebook, Google, and X. The listing describes additional providers and integrations, including WooCommerce, BuddyPress, UserPro, and Ultimate Member, as Pro features. These are the vendor’s stated capabilities, not an independent comparison. Check the Nextend Social Login listing for the current feature details.
Install and activate Nextend Social Login
- In the WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New.
- Search for Nextend Social Login, select Install Now, and activate the plugin.
- Open Settings > Nextend Social Connect to configure a provider.
These steps follow the Nextend installation guide. Configure and test each provider before enabling it for visitors.

Connect an identity provider
Provider setup is separate from installing the WordPress plugin: you must configure an application with the identity provider, then enter the resulting settings in Nextend. Follow the instructions shown for the provider you select.
Google setup and redirect URI
For Google, create a web application OAuth client and use the redirect URI displayed in Nextend’s provider setup. In Google’s OAuth settings, the authorized redirect URI must match exactly, including the scheme, capitalization, and trailing slash. A mismatch can produce redirect_uri_mismatch. Google also warns that a client secret must not be placed in a public location. See the Google OAuth web-server guide for client setup and redirect requirements.

Google’s policies require production OAuth apps to have a publicly accessible homepage that describes the app and links to a privacy policy. For web OAuth clients, Google requires HTTPS redirect URIs and JavaScript origins. Review the Google OAuth policies when preparing a production setup.
Choose where the login buttons appear
Nextend says its free plugin automatically adds buttons to WordPress’s default /wp-login.php form and forms that use wp_login_form(). For other locations, its getting-started documentation describes shortcodes, PHP insertion, and a widget. The vendor lists placement and integrations for named commerce and membership forms as Pro features. Consult the Nextend getting-started guide to select the method that fits your site.

If visitors use a custom registration or checkout flow, verify that the button appears on that exact form rather than assuming support based on the default WordPress login screen.
Test the login flow before enabling it
Use Nextend’s provider test before enabling the provider, as its installation instructions direct. Then check the complete visitor journey on desktop and mobile:

OAuth and social login involve account data, so review what your site receives, retains, displays, and deletes. Nextend documents privacy settings for managing user information, display, and deletion; see its general settings documentation. Match the settings and your privacy disclosures to the data your site actually handles. Neither plugin settings nor provider documentation determines whether a particular site complies with applicable legal requirements.
Best Value
- FIDO2 & Passkey Ready: Business-ready and FIDO2 L1 certified. This key is supported by major management suites and is ideal for both individual and enterprise deployment. Works seamlessly with Gmail, Facebook, GitHub, Dropbox, Coinbase, and more.
- Universal Connectivity (USB-A ): Features a built-in USB-A connector—simply unfold the key and plug it into your compatible PC or laptop for seamless authentication on the go.
- Dedicated Manager App: Use the Thetis Manager App for the initial hardware PIN setup. Setting the PIN on the device first ensures a smooth registration process. Once the PIN is configured, you can begin registering the key across your favorite FIDO2-compatible online services.
- Ultra-Durable & Portable: Featuring a rotating metal cover, this key is water, crush, and tamper-resistant. It fits easily on a keychain and requires no batteries or network connectivity.
- Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID, and NFC is NOT supported.
Nextend also documents default OAuth handling and proxy-page callback implications in its settings documentation. If your site uses a proxy page or non-standard callback arrangement, check those settings rather than assuming the default redirect behavior applies unchanged.
When a different plugin or paid feature may be needed
There is no established universal best social-login plugin in the sources cited here. Compare candidates against the providers you need, the exact forms used on your site, button placement and styling, privacy controls, maintenance and support, and compatibility with your theme and other plugins.
In Nextend’s documented feature split, the free version covers Facebook, Google, and X with basic placement; the vendor lists more providers and named integrations among Pro features. If a required provider or form integration is not included in the free feature set, check the vendor’s documentation and current listing before choosing a plan.
