On a supported Galaxy S23, manage eSIMs in Settings → Connections → SIM manager. Add a carrier-issued eSIM using the activation method your carrier provides, select which line to use for calls or mobile data, or switch off and remove a stored plan. Removing an eSIM from the phone does not cancel the carrier plan.
Check that your S23 and carrier support eSIM
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra as eSIM-capable models, but service depends on the device’s country or region and the carrier. Check your carrier’s eligibility and activation requirements before you begin; not every carrier offers QR setup, automatic plan download, transfer, or manual activation in every region. See Samsung’s S23 eSIM guidance and its carrier support guidance.
What to get from your carrier before adding an eSIM
Ask your carrier which activation method it supports for your specific S23 and plan. Depending on the carrier, you may need a plan assigned to your device, a QR code, or an activation code. If you are moving an existing number or plan from another phone, ask whether the carrier requires a separate transfer or reissue; adding a profile is not necessarily the same as transferring service.
Add an eSIM to your Galaxy S23
- Open SIM manager: Go to Settings → Connections → SIM manager. On some software versions, the label may appear as SIM card manager.
- Start setup: Tap Add eSIM. Follow the option offered for your carrier. Samsung’s S23 series manual documents this path; screen wording can vary by region, software version, and carrier.
- Use the carrier’s activation method:
- Carrier-assigned plan: If your carrier has preassigned a plan for download, choose Add mobile plan if that option appears, then follow the prompts.
- QR code: Choose Scan QR code and scan the code provided by your carrier.
- Activation code: If your carrier gave you a code and the phone presents manual entry, enter it as instructed by the carrier.
- Finish and select the line: Complete the on-screen activation steps, then select the profile you want active in SIM manager.
For Samsung’s documented steps, see the Galaxy S23 series manual and Samsung UK’s eSIM guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Choose which SIM or eSIM handles calls and mobile data
Adding an eSIM installs a profile; choosing a preferred line controls how the phone uses active SIMs. In Settings → Connections → SIM manager, activate the SIM or eSIM you want to use, then set the preferred SIM for features such as voice calls and mobile data. Available choices depend on the active lines and software version.
Understand data switching before enabling it
The S23 manual also describes data switching: the phone can use another SIM for data if the preferred SIM cannot connect. This is separate from choosing the preferred data SIM and may incur additional carrier charges. Check your plan’s terms before relying on it. See the S23 series manual and Samsung’s dual-SIM setup guidance.

Remove a stored eSIM from the phone
- Open Settings → Connections → SIM card manager (or SIM manager, depending on the software version).
- Select the eSIM plan you want to remove and switch it off.
- Tap Remove and confirm. Samsung also documents an option to remove all mobile plans, so check the selection carefully before proceeding.
Removing the profile only removes it from the device. Samsung UK’s support guidance, “How to use an eSIM with your Galaxy phone” (updated 22 January 2025), states: “Removing plans on your Galaxy smartphone does not affect your contract with the network provider.” Contact your carrier separately if you want to cancel service.
