Add an emoji in your SEO plugin’s title field—not just in the post’s visible heading. Yoast SEO Premium provides an emoji picker in the post’s Search appearance panel, while Rank Math lets you enter an emoji in its snippet editor. Google may rewrite the title link or leave the emoji out, so keep the title clear and useful without it.
Where to add an emoji in a WordPress SEO title
WordPress’s visible post title and its SEO title are separate fields. To target the title used for search previews, edit the SEO title in the plugin attached to your site. These steps apply to the documented Yoast SEO Premium and Rank Math workflows; the labels can vary slightly with plugin versions.
Add an emoji with Yoast SEO Premium
- In the WordPress dashboard, open the post or page you want to edit.
- Open the Yoast SEO sidebar or metabox in the editor.
- Choose Search appearance.
- Click the smiley-face button to open the emoji picker, then select an emoji to insert it in the SEO title field. Yoast also documents typing
:to open emoji options. See Yoast’s emoji-title instructions. - Check the snippet preview and read the title as if the emoji were removed. Yoast describes editing and previewing the snippet in its SEO title and meta description guide.
The documented emoji picker is a Yoast SEO Premium feature; do not assume it is available in every Yoast version.
Add an emoji with Rank Math
- Edit the relevant post or page in WordPress.
- Open Rank Math SEO and select Edit Snippet.
- Enter a supported emoji in the Title field, then save or update the post. Rank Math’s title and description instructions cover this workflow.
For bulk changes, Rank Math documents enabling bulk editing under Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta, then editing SEO title fields from the Posts or Pages list. If a label differs in your installation, check the current plugin interface.

If you already use one of these plugins, use its title field. There is no need to choose or buy a plugin solely to add an emoji.

There is no guarantee. Google generates title links automatically from multiple sources, including the page’s content and references to it on the web; the title entered in WordPress is not a command that Google must display. Google may omit the emoji or rewrite the title link. Its title-link guidance also notes that displayed titles can be truncated to fit a device’s width.

That means the plugin’s snippet preview is useful for checking your entry, but it cannot promise how a Google result will look. Yoast likewise advises that emoji appearance may vary by device and font, and that Google may not show one; this is vendor guidance, not a Google rule. See Yoast’s advice on emoji and SEO and its SEO title guidance.

Use an emoji without weakening the title
- Choose an emoji that fits the page, brand and audience; avoid adding one just to decorate every title.
- Keep the words descriptive and concise, with the main subject understandable if the emoji disappears.
- Review the title in the plugin preview, but judge it as plain text too.
- Do not treat an emoji as a guaranteed way to improve rankings or clicks. Google’s guidance is to create descriptive, concise titles, and the appearance of the final title link is automated.
