Use PageCrawl’s Custom Headers setting for headers sent with requests to the monitored website, and a Custom JavaScript action to set a cookie in that page’s browser context. These are separate from the Bearer token used to authenticate requests to PageCrawl’s own management API.

Set a custom header for the monitored website

  1. Open the settings for the monitored page.
  2. Enable Power User mode to reveal advanced settings.
  3. Configure Custom Headers for the target request.

PageCrawl documents the setting but does not specify a header-entry format or a target-header API field in the cited help article. Do not assume a JSON key or paste an example from another service. For the current setting description, see Advanced Configuration Options for Power Users.

Set a cookie in the monitored page’s browser

Add a Custom JavaScript action to the monitored page. PageCrawl’s documented example is:

document.cookie = 'lang=en; path=/; max-age=86400'

This sets a cookie named lang to en, with a root path and a maximum age of 86,400 seconds. PageCrawl says custom JavaScript actions run in the browser context before tracked elements are extracted. Cookie behavior still depends on browser cookie rules and the target page’s context; this example does not establish how to set an HttpOnly cookie. See JavaScript Tracked Elements and Custom JavaScript Actions.

Keep target-site settings separate from PageCrawl API authentication

If your code is calling PageCrawl’s management API, authenticate that request with the documented header:

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN

This token authorizes a request to PageCrawl; it is not a header for the website being monitored. PageCrawl’s API guide includes examples for API calls, but the readable documentation cited here does not confirm payload keys for configuring target-site headers or cookies through the API. If you need an API-only setup, consult the current PageCrawl OpenAPI specification rather than guessing field names. See also API and Webhooks for Custom Integrations.

Troubleshoot the common mix-ups

  • The monitored site does not receive the expected header: confirm you added it under the monitored page’s Custom Headers setting with Power User mode enabled. The cited help page does not provide an exact entry syntax, so verify the current UI instructions instead of assuming a format.
  • The site does not recognize the cookie: confirm the Custom JavaScript action is attached to the monitored page and that its cookie name, value, path, and lifetime match what the site expects. PageCrawl documents the browser-context assignment, not a universal way to bypass browser cookie restrictions.
  • An API call to PageCrawl is unauthorized: check that the request to PageCrawl’s API includes Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN and that you are using the API token, not a target-site credential.
  • You are trying to configure target headers or cookies through an API: do not infer undocumented payload keys from the management API’s authentication examples. Check the OpenAPI specification for current supported fields.

Or skip the browser setup

If your goal is to capture a webpage rather than configure a PageCrawl monitor, ScreenshotNeo can return a screenshot or PDF with one GET request. Its clean-shot flow removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

For API options, see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. Example cURL request:
