To add music to a silent video loop on YouTube Live, use an encoder to send the looping video and a separate, rights-cleared music source together as one live feed. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select a stream, copy its stream URL and key into the encoder, preview the result, then start and monitor the broadcast. The crucial preparation is music permission: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a detected match can interrupt the stream.
What you need before you go live
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube’s getting-started requirements include channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a minimum age of 16.
- An encoder that can send your video loop and music as a combined live feed. YouTube supports encoder-based streams, but the exact controls for looping and mixing depend on the encoder.
- A music track you are permitted to use in the live broadcast. If you plan to keep the stream archive, confirm that your rights cover the archived video too.
- The stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
You do not need to assume a particular mixer, audio interface, or other physical audio gear is necessary for a digital video-and-music setup. Choose an encoder that can accept the video and audio inputs your workflow requires.
Choose music that is cleared for a livestream
Before setting up the encoder, check the rights for the exact track and intended use. YouTube’s live-stream terms make the creator responsible for having the rights needed to use live content, including music. A track described as “free,” a credit line, or a short excerpt does not by itself establish permission.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Music source | What to check |
|---|---|
| YouTube Audio Library | YouTube describes its Audio Library as a source of royalty-free music and sound effects, with copyright-safe choices. Check whether the individual track requires attribution and follow its terms. |
| Your own music | Confirm that collaborators, performers, and any samples incorporated into the track are cleared for the broadcast and any archived version. |
| Creator Music | YouTube describes Creator Music as a catalog for monetized videos in certain regions. Availability and permitted use depend on the region and the individual track’s current terms; do not assume that a track permits livestreaming or archiving. |
| Paid or royalty-free third-party catalog | Read the actual license for live broadcasts, archived VOD, monetization, territories, and attribution. If the rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before you go live. |
A license does not guarantee that YouTube will recognize your permission automatically. YouTube says that if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist, the livestream can still be interrupted even when you licensed the content. Ask the rights holder how to have your channel allowlisted and do so before broadcasting.

Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
Set up the live feed in YouTube Studio and your encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create a livestream or select an existing stream. Use the encoder workflow for a feed assembled from a video source and a separate music source.
- Copy the stream URL and key. In the Live Control Room, find the connection details for the stream. The stream key is a credential that allows YouTube to accept the encoder’s feed; keep it private and enter it only in your encoder’s stream settings.
- Configure the encoder inputs. Set the silent loop as the video input and the cleared music track as the audio input. Use the encoder’s own controls to make the video repeat and to set the music level. Controls vary by encoder, so follow its documentation rather than assuming a universal button sequence.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key into the encoder’s streaming destination settings, then connect or start the encoder output so YouTube can receive the feed.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the image is the intended loop, the music is audible, and the mix is at an acceptable level. Test privately or unlisted where appropriate before a public broadcast.
- Start the livestream and monitor it. Start the broadcast when the preview is ready. Keep YouTube Studio open and monitor audio and video quality, warnings, and interruptions while the stream is live.
YouTube recommends testing and ongoing monitoring, but its general encoder guidance does not prescribe one universal loop or audio-mixing recipe, or settings for every third-party encoder. The encoder determines those controls.
Protect the livestream and its archive
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A detected match may cause a warning, a placeholder image, a temporary interruption, or termination if the content continues. This can happen even when you believe you have permission, so clear the music and arrange any needed Content ID allowlisting before the broadcast.

- Analog mixing and equalization for pure sound
- Direct mixing of PC/gaming sounds into the streaming output
- Ultra-low noise analog mixer for streaming, podcasting and recording
- Stereo USB audio interface to connect your computer or mobile device
If you enable archiving, review the saved video after the stream ends for a Content ID claim. YouTube says claims are made after a livestream ends; do not assume permission for the live broadcast also covers the replay. Check the license separately for the archive, including its monetization and territory terms.
Copyright exceptions such as fair use or fair dealing depend on the facts of a particular case; only a court can make that determination. Giving credit does not automatically grant permission, and using only a few seconds does not automatically make copyrighted music safe to use.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The encoder connects, but the preview has no music. | The encoder is not sending the intended audio input, or its audio level is too low. | Check the encoder’s selected audio source and level, then confirm audibility in the Live Control Room preview before starting the public stream. |
| The music plays but the video does not repeat. | The encoder’s loop control is not enabled or the selected source does not repeat by default. | Check the encoder’s loop or playlist controls and verify the repeat in preview or a private/unlisted test. |
| YouTube warns about or interrupts the stream for music. | YouTube detected third-party content; the track may be unlicensed, the license may not cover the live use, or the channel may not be allowlisted by a Content ID owner. | Stop using the track unless you have confirmed rights. Contact the rights holder about channel allowlisting, or replace the track with music whose terms cover the broadcast. |
| The live broadcast was allowed, but the archive receives a claim. | The music license may not include the archived VOD, or Content ID may identify the track after the stream ends. | Review the archive’s claim and the license terms. Confirm archived-video rights separately before retaining or monetizing the replay. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. | The stream URL or key may be missing or incorrect, or the channel may not be eligible to livestream. | Recheck the stream connection details in Live Control Room and the encoder destination. Confirm the channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements. |
