To put a still temple image behind a continuous bhajan stream, add the image as a source in an OBS scene, add or route the bhajan audio into OBS, then send the scene to YouTube Live with an encoder stream key. The image is only the visual layer: for a local setup, the computer, OBS and internet connection must stay available for the stream to continue.
Prepare the image and audio
Choose an image you can broadcast
Use a clear landscape image that suits the stream canvas. Check that you have permission to broadcast it, and keep lettering or important details away from the edges where mobile layouts or overlays may obscure them. The OBS and YouTube guidance cited here does not prescribe a special temple-image size or format.
Confirm the bhajan audio rights
Make sure you have permission for every recording or performance you plan to play, as well as for the image. A devotional song may be traditional while a particular recording or performance remains protected. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even licensed material can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Build the static-image scene in OBS
- Create a scene: In OBS Studio, create a scene for the bhajan broadcast. A scene holds the visual and audio sources that OBS sends to the encoder output.
- Add the temple picture: Add an image source to the scene and select the image file. OBS documents media sources and links to its dedicated Image Sources guide; menu wording can vary by installed version, so use the current source names shown in your OBS build. See OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation.
- Fit the image to the canvas: Arrange the image to cover the output canvas without unintended borders or distortion. Check the full frame in the preview, including the edges and any text in the picture.
- Add the bhajan audio: Add the audio file or route the playback device producing the bhajans into OBS. Start playback and confirm that the appropriate audio meter responds in the OBS mixer. A visible image with a silent or stalled audio source is not a complete devotional stream.
- Check the final scene: Verify the picture is visible and the audio is reaching the mixer before connecting to YouTube. If you plan to change scenes or audio during the broadcast, test those transitions too.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Enable live streaming if needed: If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
- Create a stream in Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream and obtain the encoder connection details, including the stream key.
- Enter the connection details in OBS: Configure OBS to send to the YouTube live destination using the server details and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your broadcast.
- Start the encoder and check the preview: Start streaming from OBS, then confirm YouTube receives the scene and audio in its incoming preview before making the broadcast public. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the platform-side workflow.
Choose encoder settings and test the stream
YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes general live-ingest settings by resolution. For H.264, its recommended bitrate is 5 Mbps at 1080p/30 fps and 3 Mbps at 720p/30 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not guaranteed minimums for every internet connection or special requirements for a still image. Choose settings your upload connection can sustain, and test them before the public broadcast.

- Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions guidance to select settings for the intended output.
- Run an unlisted or private rehearsal with the actual bhajan audio and scene. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Test the available upload bitrate and watch YouTube’s stream health during the rehearsal and broadcast. A static picture does not remove the need for a stable upload connection or working audio.
Plan how the stream will stay on for 24 hours
Local OBS operation
With OBS running on your own computer, the computer, encoder and internet connection all need to remain operational. Someone should be responsible for watching stream health, checking that audio continues, and recovering the broadcast if the connection drops. This approach gives you direct control over the scene and local audio routing, but continuous operation depends on your local equipment and connection.
Cloud operation with StreamNeo
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the bhajan video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer, OBS installation or home connection has to remain on. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The image has borders or looks stretched: Check how the image is fitted to the OBS canvas. Adjust its size and placement so it covers the frame without distorting the picture.
- The image appears but there is no sound: Confirm the intended audio source is active, that playback is running, and that the OBS mixer meter responds. Then verify that audio reaches YouTube’s incoming preview.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the server details and stream key in OBS against the stream selected in Live Control Room. Confirm live streaming is enabled for the channel and OBS has started the encoder output.
- The preview is unstable or stream health is poor: Test upload capacity, select an ingest bitrate your connection can sustain, and monitor stream health. YouTube’s published bitrate recommendations are not a substitute for testing your actual connection.
- The stream is interrupted after it starts: Check YouTube’s copyright notifications and the rights status of both the image and audio. Content ID matches can affect a live broadcast, including where channel allowlisting has not been arranged for licensed material.
- A full-day archive is expected: YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one archived recording will cover a 24-hour schedule; consult current stream-management guidance and plan how you will handle the length of the broadcast.
Keep the broadcast compliant and monitored
Before going public, verify that the channel has the necessary rights for every visual and recording, that the stream key is not exposed, and that the scene and audio work together. During operation, assign responsibility for checking stream health and audio continuity. A still image simplifies the visual production, but it does not remove the need for a functioning encoder or a plan for interruptions.
