To show the current track during a continuous YouTube relaxation stream, add a title overlay to the video scene sent by your encoder. The overlay must receive track information from the player or from a maintained title list that stays in sync with playback. YouTube’s broadcast title is separate: changing it does not create an on-screen, changing track label.
How a now-playing title gets into the stream
A working setup has four parts: the music playback, a source for the current title, an overlay that displays it, and an encoder scene that sends the finished video to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts and sends the stream, and notes that encoders can support screen sharing, external audio and video hardware, and advanced productions. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes those general capabilities, not a built-in now-playing feature.
- Music playback: Choose the player or service that will supply the relaxation audio.
- Title source: Provide the current track name, and optionally artist or artwork, through a player integration or a supported title sequence. Do not assume every player exposes compatible metadata.
- Overlay: Display the title as text or graphics on the scene. A browser source is one possible method in OBS.
- Encoder output: Include that overlay in the scene actually sent to YouTube. Check the outgoing broadcast, not only the local preview.
Choose an overlay and title source
One community option is the OBS resource Music on stream, a web-based current-song overlay. Its listing describes support for YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Pretzel, and Epidemic Sound, and lists YouTube chapters and video-description playlists as possible title inputs. Treat these as claims in the resource listing, not a guarantee of compatibility with every player, account, or current configuration.

- Does it support the exact player or service that will provide the audio?
- Does it read live metadata, use chapters or a description playlist, or rely on manual updates?
- Will the title stay synchronized after a skip, shuffle, pause, or reconnect?
- Can it be added to the encoder scene and positioned so it remains legible over your visuals?
A manual sequence can fall out of sync if playback is shuffled, skipped, or interrupted. Confirm that the overlay handles the playback behavior you intend to use, or choose a live metadata source that follows the player.
Set up the title in OBS and test it
- Create or open the YouTube live event. Connect OBS or your chosen encoder through YouTube’s stream URL and key workflow. Keep the stream key private.
- Add the overlay to the broadcast scene. In OBS, add the supported overlay using its documented method. If it is a browser source, set its visible width and height to fit the stream canvas, then position it where it will not cover important visual content.
- Connect the title source. Configure the overlay for the actual music player or supported title list. Verify that the displayed track corresponds to the audio currently playing.
- Check the full scene and outgoing stream. Confirm the title is readable against the relaxation visuals and appears in the broadcast output. A correct local preview alone does not establish that the outgoing stream is correct.
- Exercise playback changes before leaving it unattended. Test a track transition, pause, skip, reconnect, and a long title. Confirm that updates remain synchronized and that long text does not obscure the scene.
These checks are practical safeguards, not a guarantee of unattended reliability; the cited resources do not report performance benchmarks for this workflow.

Keep the broadcast title separate from the track label
YouTube’s broadcast title identifies the live video in YouTube’s interface. The changing song name viewers see over the video is a visual element composed into the encoder’s outgoing scene. Editing event metadata alone will not make the in-picture label update.
Check music rights before going live
An on-screen title or attribution is not permission to use a recording. YouTube says it scans live streams for third-party content, and a stream may be interrupted or terminated if a match remains. For licensed third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Check that your license covers YouTube livestream use and the relevant territories and archives. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect title
- No title appears: Check that the overlay is enabled and visible in the scene being broadcast, and that its source is connected and configured.
- The title does not match the audio: Check whether the player integration is receiving current metadata. If titles come from chapters or a description playlist, verify the sequence against the actual playback order.
- The title stops updating after a skip or shuffle: Determine whether the overlay supports that playback behavior. A fixed sequence can drift when playback order changes.
- The label is hard to read or covers the visuals: Adjust the browser source’s dimensions and placement, then check legibility in the full scene and outgoing stream.
- The stream is interrupted after music begins: Review the music’s livestream permissions and any Content ID allowlisting requirement with the rights owner; attribution on screen does not resolve a rights match.
