In OBS, add your looping video as a Media Source, place a logo above it with an Image source, then add ticker text and apply the Scroll filter. The source order controls what appears on top. Preview the full layout and test the YouTube stream before relying on it.

1. Add the video and make it loop

  1. In OBS, select the scene you want to use. In the Sources dock, click + and choose Media Source.
  2. Create a new source or select an existing one, then browse to your video file.
  3. Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. Looping is off by default; with it enabled, OBS starts the file again when playback reaches the end. See the OBS Media Sources guide for supported formats, including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM.
  4. Click OK. Resize or reposition the video in the preview if it does not fill the canvas as intended.

2. Put the logo above the video

  1. In the Sources dock, click + and select Image.
  2. Create or select the source, then choose the logo file. OBS documents support for common formats such as PNG, JPEG, BMP, TGA, and GIF; transparency depends on the image format and file. See the OBS Image Sources guide.
  3. Move and resize the logo in the preview. To keep it visible over the video, place the Image source above the Media Source in the Sources list. Sources higher in that list render in front of lower sources, as described in the OBS Sources Guide.

3. Add ticker text

  1. Click + in Sources and choose the text source available for your operating system: Text (GDI+) on Windows or Text (FreeType 2) on macOS and Linux.
  2. Enter the ticker wording directly, or enable the option to read text from a file if you want to edit the wording outside OBS.
  3. Set the font, size, color, and any outline or background options available in the source properties. Place the text in the intended ticker lane using the preview.

OBS documents the platform-specific source choices and text options in its Text Sources guide.

4. Make the ticker scroll

  1. Right-click the ticker Text source in the Sources dock and choose Filters.
  2. Under effect filters, click + and add Scroll.
  3. Adjust Horizontal Speed to set direction and pace: negative values move left, while positive values move right.
  4. Enable Loop if the text should reappear after scrolling beyond the source bounds. Use Limit Width or Limit Height if you need to constrain the scrolling region.

The Scroll filter “Makes the Source image scroll in any direction,” according to the OBS Scroll Filter documentation. Check the preview and adjust the text source width and speed until the ticker is readable and moves at a comfortable pace.

5. Arrange and verify the complete scene

  • Keep the logo and ticker away from important video details, captions, and other on-screen information.
  • Check the Sources order: the video at the bottom, with the logo and ticker above it. If one overlay disappears behind the video, move its source higher in the list.
  • Watch the preview through a full ticker pass and, if practical, the end and restart of the video. Confirm the video loops and the ticker repeats as intended.
  • Check the layout at the output resolution and aspect ratio you plan to stream. Text or a logo that looks large in the OBS preview may be difficult to read at a smaller viewing size.

6. Test YouTube delivery before going live

Use a representative test with movement and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube’s encoder recommendations cover RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, and AV1 options, CBR, frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency (do not exceed four seconds). Bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so choose it from YouTube’s current table rather than treating one bitrate as universal. Recommendations can change; consult YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

7. Choose a ticker method: native text or Browser Source

Method Best fit Trade-off
Text source with Scroll Fixed wording and a straightforward moving ticker. Simple to configure with OBS’s native text and filter controls; less suited to a complex web layout.
Browser Source A custom HTML layout, web-based ticker, or more elaborate animation. More flexible, but OBS warns Browser Sources can be resource intensive. See the Browser Source guide and encoding performance troubleshooting.

For a simple logo and fixed ticker, start with Image, Text, and Scroll. Use Browser Source when the layout needs web content or custom animation that the native sources cannot provide.
