In OBS Studio, add your prerecorded video as a Media Source, place a logo Image Source and a text or browser-based ticker above it, then apply OBS’s Scroll filter to move the ticker. Send the finished scene to YouTube Live, check the incoming preview, and select Go live in Live Control Room when it is ready.

What you need

  • A prerecorded video file and a logo image. OBS Media Source supports formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM; Image Source supports PNG, JPEG/JPG, GIF, BMP and TGA. A transparent PNG is a practical logo choice if you want the video to show through around the mark.
  • OBS Studio running on a computer for the duration of the broadcast. OBS creates and encodes the composition; this workflow does not require a capture card or a separate ticker device.
  • A YouTube Live stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Keep the key private because it grants access to the stream connection.

Prepare the ticker wording in advance. Keep it concise enough to read at the stream’s output size, and avoid placing it over important action or text in the video.

Build the logo-and-ticker scene in OBS

  1. Create or select a scene. In OBS, use the Scenes panel to choose the scene for this broadcast, or create one for it.
  2. Add the prerecorded video. In Sources, select + and add a Media Source. Select the video file, then preview it and check its audio. Media Source’s Loop option is off by default; enable it if the clip should repeat.
  3. Add the logo. Select + in Sources and add an Image source. Choose the logo file, then resize and position it in the preview. Keep it clear of important content.
  4. Add the ticker. Add a Text source for straightforward text, or a Browser source if the ticker is designed as a local or web page. Position the ticker where it can be read without covering essential parts of the video.
  5. Make the ticker scroll. Right-click the ticker source and add the Scroll filter. Set its horizontal speed and direction. Negative horizontal speed moves text left; positive speed moves it right. Choose whether it loops after moving offscreen. The filter can also limit width and height to keep the moving text within a ticker strip.
  6. Check layer order and framing. In the Sources list, sources higher in the list appear above lower sources and can obscure them. Put the video below the logo and ticker, then inspect the complete scene in the preview at the intended stream dimensions.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or select a broadcast in Live Control Room and copy its server URL and stream key. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
  2. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. Check that the key belongs to the broadcast you intend to use; do not share it publicly.
  3. Start OBS’s stream output. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room before going live.
  4. Inspect the preview for the logo, ticker position and movement, video playback, and audio. When ready, select Go live in Live Control Room.

Check quality before the broadcast

Test with audio and movement similar to what the actual stream will contain, then monitor stream health while live. Choose a resolution, frame rate and bitrate that your connection can sustain rather than pushing settings it cannot reliably carry. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP, and says it transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

When a standalone encoder may suit you

YouTube’s encoder listing includes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone option. Its listing describes PlayToStream for scheduling prerecorded media to YouTube Live and built-in graphics and layout tools that include logos and lower-thirds. The cited listing does not establish that it supports a scrolling ticker, so verify that capability directly if it is essential. It is an alternative for someone seeking a dedicated appliance, not a requirement for the OBS method. See YouTube’s encoder listing.

Or let it run in the cloud

OBS gives you direct control over the composition, but the computer running the encoder must stay on for the broadcast. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos as live streams; it does not go live from a camera. Upload your finished video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Because this article’s OBS method composes the logo and ticker into the outgoing scene, prepare and upload a finished video with those elements already included if you want them in a StreamNeo stream.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
  • Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.

Plans include 10 GB storage per slot, pooled across active slots, with 24/7 looping and playlists. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo for details.

Troubleshooting

  • The video does not play. Confirm the Media Source points to the intended local file and that the format is supported. Check the source preview and whether playback has reached the end; turn on Loop if it should repeat.
  • The logo or ticker is hidden. Check the Sources order. Move the overlay above the video, and verify that it is enabled and positioned within the canvas.
  • The ticker is not moving. Confirm the Scroll filter is attached to the ticker source, not the video or another layer. Check that horizontal speed is nonzero and that the chosen direction and loop behavior match what you expect.
  • The ticker runs outside its intended strip. Use the filter’s width and height limits, then check the source position and full scene preview.
  • YouTube does not show an incoming preview. Recheck the server URL and stream key in OBS and confirm OBS output is running for the selected broadcast. Do not reuse a key without confirming it is associated with the intended stream.
  • The stream looks unstable or audio is poor. Test the connection with similar motion and audio before going live, reduce output demands if the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
