Add the clock and prayer timetable as a transparent Browser Source in OBS, layered over your mantra video. First choose the location and prayer-time convention the schedule should represent; prayer times are not universal. Preview the timetable against the appropriate local authority’s published times before you broadcast.
What you need to set up
- OBS Studio with a scene containing your mantra video.
- A transparent HTML overlay for the clock and prayer timetable, either as one page or as separate sources.
- The intended city or coordinates, plus the prayer-time calculation convention and any local adjustments used by the relevant authority.
- A way to keep the video playing and monitor or recover the stream. An overlay does not by itself keep OBS or a livestream running continuously.
OBS Browser Source can render a web page or local file inside a scene. The OBS Project describes it as a browser source that supports custom layouts, images, video, and audio tasks: OBS Browser Source documentation.
Choose the location and prayer-time convention
Set the location for the audience or community the schedule is meant to serve. AlAdhan’s Prayer Times API accepts coordinates, city and country, or an address: AlAdhan Prayer Times API.
Then select the calculation method used by the relevant local authority and determine whether it applies minute adjustments. Methods and local preferences can differ; do not present generated times as simply “local” without identifying the location and convention. The assignment does not specify a city, country, or authority, so there is no single correct set of example times. Compare the finished timetable with the appropriate local source before using it on air.
Create the clock and prayer overlay
Option 1: Use one combined page
A single transparent HTML page can show the clock and timetable together. This keeps the layout in one place and makes it easier to check that both elements use the same location and visual style. If you maintain the page yourself, make sure the clock updates and the timetable changes on the intended local day.

Option 2: Use separate sources
You can put a clock and prayer timetable in separate Browser Sources when you want to position or update them independently. This gives you more layout flexibility, but you must maintain and verify both sources separately.
Choose local HTML or a hosted page
- Local HTML file: OBS loads the file from your computer, giving you control over its design without depending on a hosted overlay page. The file must remain available at the selected path.
- Hosted page: OBS loads a URL, which can make updates easier to publish centrally. The source depends on the page being reachable and returning the expected content.

Add the overlay to OBS
- Open the OBS scene used for the mantra stream. Add the video source if it is not already in the scene.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Browser. Give the source a name that identifies it, such as “Clock and prayer schedule,” and confirm.
- For a hosted overlay, enter its URL. For a local page, enable Local file and browse to the HTML file.
- Set the Browser Source width and height to suit the overlay page’s design. A source with unsuitable dimensions may clip or scale its contents.
- Place the Browser Source above the mantra video in the Sources list so the clock and schedule appear on top. Position and resize it in the preview.
- Use clear, high-contrast text that remains legible against the video. Keep important text away from the edges and check that the overlay background is transparent where intended.
- Preview the complete scene. Confirm that the clock advances, the timetable shows the intended location and day, and all text is readable over both bright and dark portions of the video.
Generate and verify the timetable
- Enter the intended coordinates, city and country, or address in the timetable source or API-powered page.
- Select the calculation convention associated with the relevant local authority. Apply any local minute adjustments only when they are supported by that authority’s guidance.
- Check the displayed prayer names, times, date rollover, and time zone. Confirm that the page does not silently fall back to a different city or convention.
- Compare the displayed schedule with a timetable from the appropriate local authority. Resolve differences before broadcasting rather than assuming a calculation service’s default is the local standard.
- Recheck the display after the local date changes and after any page, API, or location settings are updated.
AlAdhan notes that method selection and local tuning can affect the result; differences of a few minutes in its examples should not be treated as a universal tolerance. The issuing authority closest to the intended location is the better reference for that location.
Keep the mantra stream playing continuously
The clock and schedule are scene graphics; they do not provide continuous video playout or guarantee that OBS remains connected. For an OBS-based setup, keep the video playback, computer, network connection, and streaming process running, and have a way to notice and recover interruptions.

Troubleshooting
The overlay is missing
- Check that the Browser Source is enabled and above the video in the Sources list.
- If using a local page, confirm that Local file is enabled and the selected file still exists at that path.
- If using a URL, check that it loads and displays correctly outside OBS.
The overlay is cropped or too small
Adjust the Browser Source dimensions to match the page, then resize and reposition it in the OBS preview. Check the page’s own layout as well as the source size.
The prayer times differ from the local timetable
Verify the coordinates or city, time zone, calculation method, and any locally prescribed adjustments. Use the relevant local authority’s timetable as the comparison point; changing the method can change displayed times.
The schedule looks right but becomes wrong after midnight
Check the page’s date and time-zone handling and confirm it refreshes or recalculates for the new local date. Do not assume a static timetable will roll over correctly.
The stream stops even though the overlay is visible
A Browser Source does not keep OBS, the video source, or the internet connection running. Check that the video is still playing and OBS remains connected, and use a monitoring and restart approach appropriate to your platform. The cited playout project’s documented release scope is Windows x64; it should not be assumed to suit every system.
