If you’re looking for “Slaughter Mode” in DOOM: The Dark Ages, the official sources call the custom combat arena the Ripatorium; they do not verify “Slaughter Mode” as an official menu name. Update the game, open the Ripatorium, and use its Encounter Manager to build a fight. Bethesda’s notes do not establish a campaign-completion requirement for the base mode.
Where is Slaughter Mode?
Look for the Ripatorium, not a menu item named Slaughter Mode. Bethesda introduced the Ripatorium in Update 2 as an arena where players configure custom combat encounters. The feature and its name are described in the official Update 2 release notes, published August 7, 2025.
How do I access the base Ripatorium?
- Update the game. The Ripatorium was added in Update 2.
- Open the Ripatorium. The official notes identify the feature but do not document an exact sequence of menu selections or button presses.
- Open the Encounter Manager. Use it to configure an encounter, rather than expecting a separately named Slaughter Mode option.
The Update 2 notes do not say that you must finish the campaign to access the base Ripatorium. They also do not give a more specific unlock path, so a campaign prerequisite should not be assumed.
How to set up a custom fight
In the Encounter Manager, choose an arena and configure the demons and fight rules. Update 2 documents three arenas: City of Ry’uul, Village of Khalim, and Harbor of Souls.

Bethesda’s Update 3 release notes, published November 18, 2025, describe a round-based version of the mode.

- Each round can have its own settings.
- Medium, Challenging, and Sadistic presets are available with any difficulty level.
- Passcode sharing is identified as beta. To play another player’s encounter, select the relevant round and use Enter New Passcode at the bottom of the screen.
Update 3 also added five jukebox tracks and an end-of-level summary with Difficulty and Arena Setup tabs.

How Revelations Ripatorium content unlocks
Revelations expansion content is separate from access to the base Ripatorium. The official DOOM: The Dark Ages Steam announcements state that its Ripatorium content unlocks after you complete the Master Arenas.

That content adds the Hell’s Core, Osseus, and Classic arenas; Revelations demons, including Leaders and Champions; a fully upgraded Revelations loadout with the Spear and new Suit Perks; Revelations jukebox tracks; and six curated encounter presets. Completing the Master Arenas is the stated requirement for this expansion content, not a documented prerequisite for entering the base Ripatorium.
