A Super Chat highlights a paid message in Live Chat; it does not buy a guaranteed reply, shout-out, or acknowledgement. Whether the option appears depends on the creator’s eligibility, the stream’s settings and type, and location availability.
What a Super Chat does on an unattended stream
A Super Chat is a paid message highlighted in a livestream’s chat. A Super Sticker is a separate purchase: an animated image displayed in chat. YouTube describes both as fan-funding features for livestreams and Premieres. Supers can appear as colored messages or animated images, and a buyer’s profile picture may stay at the top of the chat feed for a period tied to the purchase amount. YouTube’s eligibility and policy guidance and its Super Chat management guidance explain how they work.
YouTube’s published eligibility conditions do not list the absence of a host on camera as a disqualifier. That supports the practical conclusion that a host need not be on camera for a Super Chat to be possible, but it is an inference from YouTube’s documented mechanics—not a separate guarantee covering every 24/7 stream format. A creator may thank a buyer verbally or heart a Super, but those are optional interactions, not part of what the purchase guarantees. Some purchase milestones may trigger automated messages.
When viewers can and cannot buy Supers
The channel must meet YouTube’s fan-funding eligibility requirements, be in a supported location, and comply with the applicable terms and policies. Eligibility and geographic availability can change, so check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s current availability information rather than assuming the feature is available everywhere.

Even when a channel is eligible, Supers are unavailable on an individual video if it is age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser. They are also unavailable when Live Chat or comments are turned off. YouTube’s guidance on restrictions that affect live streaming is relevant if Live Chat or Supers become unavailable.
What a purchase means for the creator—and what it does not
YouTube says creators receive 70% of confirmed Supers revenue after deductions for local sales tax and iOS App Store fees; YouTube currently covers transaction costs such as credit-card fees. This is YouTube’s stated revenue calculation, not a promise about a buyer’s total charge or a creator’s take-home amount in every case. Supers remain subject to Community Guidelines and can be moderated like other live-chat messages. If YouTube moderates and removes a Super Chat or Sticker for a policy violation, YouTube says its portion of the revenue is donated to charity. Deleting a Super Chat after the stream ends does not result in a refund. YouTube’s live-chat moderation guidance describes tools such as holding potentially inappropriate messages, slow mode, and turning Live Chat on or off. Chat may also be turned off if the stream’s content or chat violates Community Guidelines.
How to manage expectations and moderation when nobody is live
An unattended channel should decide what moderation coverage it can provide while the stream runs and avoid implying that every paid message will be read or answered. A clear stream description can explain that Super Chats may not receive a live response; this is practical guidance based on the optional nature of creator acknowledgement, not a YouTube rule. Creators can review recent activity and available transaction information in YouTube Studio under Earn > Supers, and review Supers revenue in YouTube Analytics.

What a 24/7 stream’s archive limit means
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is an archive and replay limitation, not a stated cutoff for live Super Chat purchases while an eligible stream remains live. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. After a stream ends, a channel may post a replay or highlights. Live-chat replay can show chat alongside an archived stream as it appeared live, but if a continuous stream exceeding 12 hours is not captured, viewers should not assume its full video or chat replay will be available.
