Resident Evil Requiem requires 28.7 GB, Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition requires 20.9 GB, and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition requires 24.5 GB on Nintendo Switch 2. Installing all three therefore accounts for about 74.1 GB before patches, downloadable content changes, screenshots, or other games.
A 512GB microSD Express card is the most practical one-card choice for that library. A 256GB card can work for a smaller collection, while 128GB covers the three listed downloads only on paper and leaves considerably less room for updates and additional software.
Resident Evil Switch 2 storage requirements at a glance
Nintendo’s 2026 listings give the clearest game-by-game download figures currently available for the Switch 2 versions:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Game | Nintendo Switch 2 download size | What the listing includes |
|---|---|---|
| Resident Evil Requiem | 28.7 GB | Switch 2 game download |
| Resident Evil 7 biohazard Gold Edition | 20.9 GB | Gold Edition listing, including its bundled content |
| Resident Evil Village Gold Edition | 24.5 GB | Gold Edition listing, including its bundled content |
| All three together | 74.1 GB | Arithmetic total of the three Nintendo listings |
The combined figure is a planning baseline, not a promise that every installation will occupy exactly 74.1 GB forever. Game updates, additional downloads, and system-reserved storage can change how much free capacity you need at the moment you install or update a title.

Why Requiem has two different capacity figures
Capcom’s 2026 support FAQ says Resident Evil Requiem needs 35.0 GB or more. Nintendo’s eShop listing, meanwhile, shows a 28.7 GB download size. These figures answer different questions:
- 28.7 GB is Nintendo’s current listed download size for the Switch 2 product page.
- 35.0 GB or more is Capcom’s free-capacity planning requirement. It is the safer amount to have available when beginning the installation.
Do not replace one number with the other. Use the eShop listing for the exact region and edition you are purchasing, and keep free space above that displayed download size. Installation and update processes can require working room in addition to the final game files.
How much of Switch 2’s internal storage can you actually use?
Nintendo says Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal storage, with part of that capacity reserved for system use. The advertised number is therefore not the same as the free space shown to you for games.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The three Resident Evil downloads total 74.1 GB, so they fit within internal storage in a simple capacity calculation. In practice, you also need room for the operating system, updates, captures, and every other title on the console. A player who keeps a small digital library may never need a card; someone buying several large games will reach the internal limit much sooner.

Nintendo describes a microSD Express card as storage for screenshots and software data, including downloaded software, software updates, and downloadable content. That makes the card the expansion location for a digital library, but it does not turn the console’s internal storage into a larger save-data drive.
Which microSD Express capacity should you buy?
| Card capacity | Can it hold the three listed games? | Best fit | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 128GB | Yes, based on the 74.1 GB listed total | Players installing only these games or maintaining a very small library | Limited headroom for patches, DLC, captures, and additional games |
| 256GB | Yes | A moderate digital library and buyers controlling what stays installed | Less long-term margin than 512GB as more large titles accumulate |
| 512GB | Yes, with substantial room beyond the baseline | Players who want all three Resident Evil games installed plus other software | Higher purchase cost than smaller cards |
Why 512GB is the practical recommendation
After the 74.1 GB Resident Evil baseline, a 512GB card leaves the most useful margin for updates and a growing library. It also reduces the need to delete and redownload games when a new release arrives. The recommendation is about capacity and convenience, not a claim that a particular card makes games load faster than another compliant card.
When 256GB is enough
Choose 256GB if you expect to keep a limited number of digital games installed, buy some software physically, or regularly archive titles you have finished. It is a reasonable middle choice for someone who wants expansion but does not expect the card to hold an entire long-term library.
When 128GB can make sense
A 128GB card covers the three Nintendo-listed downloads in arithmetic terms. It is the budget option for a tightly managed console, but the remaining space can disappear quickly once updates, screenshots, and other games are added. It is better viewed as a small-library solution than as a durable recommendation for all three games plus future purchases.

What type of card is required?
Buy a microSD Express card made for Nintendo Switch 2. The Express requirement is important: a conventional microSD card is not an equivalent substitute for the expansion standard Nintendo documents for Switch 2 software data.
Check three things before paying:
- Interface: The product must explicitly identify itself as microSD Express and state Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility.
- Capacity: Select 512GB for the least restrictive setup, or 256GB/128GB if your library plan justifies the trade-off.
- Seller and warranty: Use a reputable retailer and verify the manufacturer’s warranty. Capacity labels alone do not establish authenticity or support.
Nintendo says licensed microSD Express cards for Switch 2 will be available through the Nintendo Store. Licensing is useful reassurance, but any card still needs to meet the console’s Express and capacity requirements.
A named 512GB option: what to verify
TechRadar reported a Powin Premier Express 512GB Resident Evil Requiem Special Edition, produced in collaboration with Capcom. The Resident Evil branding is optional; the relevant specifications for this storage decision are the 512GB capacity, microSD Express interface, Switch 2 compatibility, and warranty.

How to plan and install the games without running out of space
Use this sequence whenever you are preparing a new installation or a major update:
- Open the Nintendo eShop listing for your region. Confirm that you have selected the correct Switch 2 version and edition. Nintendo says the eShop and physical packaging show game-specific storage requirements.
- Write down the displayed requirement. For the currently listed products, the figures are 28.7 GB for Requiem, 20.9 GB for RE7 Gold Edition, and 24.5 GB for Village Gold Edition.
- Check free space on the destination. Keep at least the displayed requirement available, and use Capcom’s 35.0 GB-or-more figure as the Requiem installation planning threshold.
- Insert a compatible microSD Express card before starting a large download. Confirm that the console recognizes it and that the card’s capacity appears in storage management.
- Start the download and watch the console’s free-space indicator. If the system reports insufficient capacity, free space on the selected storage location or move compatible software data before retrying.
- Install updates and downloadable content before judging the final footprint. The initial eShop number is the current listing, while later patches or DLC can increase the space used.
The exact size shown on your console takes precedence if it differs from an older figure. Listings can change by region, edition, or update state, so use the live eShop page for the purchase you are making.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the card can store—and what it cannot
Nintendo’s support guidance says a microSD Express card can store screenshots and software data, including downloaded software, software updates, and DLC. That covers the files that make the Resident Evil downloads possible on expanded storage.
Save data is different. Nintendo explicitly states that game save data cannot be saved or copied to a microSD Express card. Installing a game on the card does not place its progress files there. Do not remove or replace a card expecting it to carry your save files with it, and do not treat a backup of the game files as a backup of your progress.

Download size versus edition contents
Comparing only gigabytes can hide an important difference between these listings. Requiem is the largest download at 28.7 GB, while RE7 Gold Edition is the smallest at 20.9 GB. Both RE7 and Village are Gold Edition products with their bundled downloadable content represented in the listings. For a card purchase, the decisive number is still the total library footprint and the room you want after installation, not which individual game is largest.
Troubleshooting common storage problems
The eShop says there is not enough space
Check the free-space figure on the destination storage, not just the card’s printed capacity. Remember that Switch 2 reserves part of its internal storage for system use. If you are installing Requiem, use 35.0 GB or more as the planning target from Capcom’s FAQ, then retry after deleting or archiving software you do not need immediately.
The card is not recognized
Confirm that it is a microSD Express model intended for Switch 2, that it is fully inserted, and that the console is running the current system software. A standard microSD card does not satisfy the Express requirement. If the card remains unrecognized, stop using it and consult the card maker or Nintendo support rather than repeatedly formatting a card containing data.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The game fits, but an update does not
The original download figure is not a lifetime reservation for every future file. Keep additional headroom, particularly on a 128GB card. A 256GB or 512GB card reduces the chance that an update forces you to remove another title.
Save data is missing after changing cards
Changing cards does not transfer save data because Nintendo does not allow game saves to be stored or copied to a microSD Express card. Recheck the console and Nintendo account procedures intended for save-data management instead of looking for a save file on the card.
Bottom line for each type of buyer
- Want all three games installed and room for more? Buy a 512GB microSD Express card.
- Have a moderate library and regularly archive finished games? A 256GB card is a sensible compromise.
- Installing only these titles on a tightly managed console? A 128GB card covers the listed 74.1 GB total, but leaves the least flexibility.
Use the Nintendo eShop listing for the exact region and edition, keep more free capacity than the headline download number requires, and remember that the card expands software storage—not game-save storage.
