Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor most budget Android buyers, aim for 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage if the price works. A lighter user can manage with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage by keeping app use modest and regularly backing up or clearing files. These are practical buying guidelines, not official Android minimums or guarantees of performance.
RAM and storage do different jobs
RAM is working memory that Android and open apps use. More RAM can give apps more room to stay active when you switch between them. Storage holds the operating system, apps, photos, videos, downloads and other files. More storage gives you more room for those items; it does not make more RAM available.
Phone names may cover several configurations. Check the listing for the exact RAM and internal-storage capacity, as well as the region or variant, rather than relying on the model family name.
How much RAM is enough?
4GB: a constrained choice for lighter use
4GB can suit messaging, browsing and a modest number of apps, especially if you do not expect many apps to remain active while switching between them. Treat it as a compromise rather than a promise that every current app or feature will run comfortably.

6GB: a sensible target for most budget buyers
6GB is a useful target when you want more room for everyday multitasking without moving far up the price range. It is a buying heuristic, not an official Android recommendation.
8GB: extra headroom for heavier use or longer ownership
If you often switch among apps, play games or use heavier apps, favor the higher-RAM option among otherwise comparable phones. 8GB may provide more headroom when the price difference is reasonable, but the number alone does not establish how fast a phone will feel.

How much internal storage do you need?
64GB: workable if you manage space
64GB may be enough if you use a modest app collection, stream rather than download media, and clear or back up files regularly. Your usable space will be less than the advertised total because the operating system and preinstalled software occupy part of it.
128GB: a more comfortable general target
128GB gives most buyers more room for apps, photos and downloads before they need to manage space. Consider more internal storage if you record lots of video, keep music or maps offline, install large apps, or expect to keep the phone for several years.

- Fluid display + immersive stereo sound. Bring your entertainment to life with an ultrawide 6.5" 90Hz* HD+ display plus stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, and Hi-Res Audio**.
- 50MP*** Quad Pixel camera. Capture sharper, more vibrant photos day or night with 4x the light sensitivity.

- Unbelievable battery life. Work and play nonstop with a long-lasting 5000mAh battery.*****
Storage and RAM are separate constraints: lots of free storage will not help apps stay in memory, and more RAM will not make space for photos or downloads.
Can a microSD card replace internal storage?
A microSD card can help with shared files on a phone that supports one, but it cannot add RAM. Android compatibility rules permit shared storage to use removable SD media or internal storage; that is a platform provision, not a guarantee that a particular handset has a card slot or lets you move every app to a card. Check the exact phone variant, supported card capacity and what can be saved or moved before buying.

Why Android minimums are not buying recommendations
Google describes Android (Go edition) as an operating system for entry-level phones with less RAM than higher-end devices. Its published minimum table lists 512MB for Android 8.1, 9 and 10 Go; 1GB for Android 11 and 12 Go; and 2GB for Android 13 Go. The table does not provide later Go release rows, so those figures should not be extended by assumption. These are Go-edition platform figures, not guidance that 2GB is enough for every current budget phone. Google’s Android (Go edition) documentation also notes that some features are disabled by default on Go.
The Android Compatibility Definition Document calls for at least 4GB of non-volatile storage available for handheld application-private data and at least 1GiB of application shared storage. Those are implementation requirements, not total advertised capacities or consumer recommendations. The document allows the shared-storage requirement to be met by removable SD storage or internal storage. Android’s compatibility document is useful for understanding platform rules, not for choosing a retail phone capacity.

Check named features and the exact configuration
Some features have their own eligibility rules, so check the requirement for anything you specifically want. Google Support says Gemini Go is available on Android Go devices with at least 2GB of RAM, subject to account access, geographic availability and gradual rollout. That feature-specific threshold does not make 2GB a general recommendation for a budget phone. Google’s Gemini Go eligibility information has the conditions.
For a particular listing, verify the Android edition, exact RAM and storage configuration, card-slot support and any feature requirements that matter to you. A retailer headline or shared model name may not describe the variant actually sold in your region.
A quick way to choose
- Light use, frequent file cleanup: 4GB RAM and 64GB storage can be workable.
- Typical everyday use: target 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage if the price fits.
- Frequent app switching or heavier apps: favor more RAM among comparable choices.
- Lots of video or offline downloads: prioritize more internal storage; treat a microSD card as extra shared-file space only after confirming compatibility.
Google’s September 2020 Android 11 Go announcement reported 20% faster app launches than Android 10 Go and, on 2GB devices, 270MB more free memory and up to 900MB more free storage. Those are dated Google claims about that release, not current performance promises or evidence that one present-day phone will outperform another. Google’s Android 11 Go announcement gives the original comparison.
