There is no reliable single monthly price without measuring your particular PC and knowing your electricity rate. For a 30-day month, electricity cost is (average whole-PC wall draw in watts ÷ 1,000) × 720 hours × your price per kWh. Your internet plan, any data overage, equipment costs, and paid services are separate.
That distinction matters: a Celeron model’s power specification is not a measurement of the complete computer running FFmpeg. Measure the PC at the wall while it performs the stream workload you intend to use, then apply your local tariff.
Calculate the electricity cost for your own PC
Use this formula:
Monthly electricity cost = (average wall power in watts ÷ 1,000) × streaming hours × electricity price per kWh
A 30-day month of continuous streaming is 720 hours. Substitute your measured average draw and your electricity rate. For example, if your measured draw is P watts and your rate is R currency units per kWh, the monthly estimate is (P ÷ 1,000) × 720 × R. This is a calculation framework, not a claim about typical Celeron consumption.

Measure the complete system under the real workload
- Connect a plug-in electricity usage monitor between the PC and the wall outlet.
- Run the operating system, FFmpeg command, source video, output settings, and network arrangement you expect to use.
- Measure over a representative period rather than relying on the processor’s nominal power rating or a brief idle reading.
- Use the monitor’s average wattage as the formula’s input, then multiply by your actual monthly hours and local electricity price per kWh.
Intel says processor power varies with workload and system design. Its 2014 guideline gives a Celeron 2000E system example of about 2.4 W idle with C-states enabled, 7.4 W idle with C-states disabled, and 13.2 W during 1080p video decoding. Those are configuration-specific guideline figures, not whole-PC wall measurements for your mini PC and not FFmpeg livestream test results. Intel’s Celeron 2000E guideline illustrates why a model name alone cannot establish your monthly bill.
Include the costs electricity does not cover
Keep these items separate from the electricity calculation so you can use the costs that actually apply to you:

- Internet service: Check whether your upload connection can sustain the stream and whether your plan has a data allowance or overage charges. Your ISP’s terms and local rates are not established by a universal estimate.
- Equipment: If you buy a PC or replace components for the project, account for that purchase separately from recurring power use.
- Paid software or hosting: Add a recurring charge only if you choose a paid product or hosted service.
- Power protection or backup: Include it only if you decide it is appropriate for your setup.
When comparing two PCs or configurations, compare measured average wall watts under the streaming workload, electricity price, monthly hours, video settings and bitrate, encoding method, upload capability and data terms, and recurring service or equipment costs. Separate an upfront purchase from recurring costs.
Choose stream settings your PC and upload connection can sustain
Encoding choices affect the work FFmpeg must do and the upload bitrate you need. YouTube publishes ingest recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate, and recommends testing upload bitrate. Its listed H.264 examples include 6 Mbps for 720p60 and 3 Mbps for 480p30; these are platform recommendations, not measurements of your connection or a Celeron benchmark. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations also describe RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. YouTube transcodes live streams for viewer formats.

Test the uplink, then monitor stream health
Choose an output setting whose bitrate your measured upload connection can sustain, with enough headroom for ordinary network variation. Test before leaving the stream unattended and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators. A setting that works on paper can still fail if the connection fluctuates or the PC cannot encode reliably.
Check whether Intel Quick Sync is actually available
Do not assume that every Celeron can use hardware encoding just because it has Intel graphics. FFmpeg documents an Intel Quick Sync Video path, but the described acceleration mode requires support from both the decoder and encoder and does not allow filters in that path. Compatibility depends on the exact processor generation, graphics hardware, drivers, FFmpeg build, source and output codecs, and filter chain. FFmpeg documentation describes the available options; it does not establish that an unspecified Celeron system will support your particular command.

If hardware encoding is unavailable or unsuitable, software encoding may put more work on the CPU. This article does not establish performance for a particular Celeron, resolution, or FFmpeg filter chain, so test the actual configuration and watch for dropped frames, excessive CPU load, and thermal problems before relying on it continuously.

Keep the key private and use the current key and server details shown in your YouTube Live setup. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement is not a guarantee of an uninterrupted session, a maximum continuous-session length, or a prescribed restart schedule. For a long-running stream, plan how you will notice an encoder exit or lost connection and decide whether your FFmpeg process should be restarted by a supervisor or watchdog. That is an implementation choice, not a YouTube requirement or an assurance of uninterrupted service. Follow YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream policies for the material you broadcast; a stream being technically continuous does not establish permission to use its content.
Common cost and streaming problems
- The bill is higher than the estimate: Check whether the wattage was measured at the wall under the actual workload, and confirm the electricity rate and number of hours used in the calculation.
- The stream buffers or loses connection: Test upload bitrate and compare it with the chosen ingest settings. Check local network stability and your ISP’s upload and data terms; the YouTube recommendations are not a guarantee about your connection.
- FFmpeg drops frames or the PC struggles: Recheck resolution, frame rate, codec, and filter choices. Verify that the exact system supports the intended Quick Sync path instead of assuming it from the Celeron name.
- The stream stops after an encoder failure: Review FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s stream health, then decide whether a restart or watchdog mechanism suits your setup. The cited YouTube guidance does not promise automatic recovery for a local FFmpeg process.
- An archive or session behaves differently than expected: YouTube’s statement about automatic archiving applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not establish a 24/7 restart design or uninterrupted-session guarantee.
