As a planning estimate, Jio’s general figures imply about 2,160 GB in 30 days at HD (72 GB per day). That is calculated from Jio’s estimate of up to 3 GB per hour—not a measurement of a particular class stream, and actual use can vary by app or website.
Estimated data use for continuous viewing
The table applies Jio’s general hourly estimates to uninterrupted playback: 24 hours per day and a 30-day month. Jio says higher-resolution video uses more data and cautions that consumption varies by application or website. Treat every figure below as an estimate of up to the stated amount, not a guaranteed usage figure for your class platform.
| Assumed quality | Jio estimate per hour | 24 hours | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | Up to 0.3 GB | Up to 7.2 GB | Up to 216 GB |
| Medium | Up to 0.7 GB | Up to 16.8 GB | Up to 504 GB |
| High | Up to 1 GB | Up to 24 GB | Up to 720 GB |
| HD | Up to 3 GB | Up to 72 GB | Up to 2,160 GB |
| Ultra HD | Up to 7 GB | Up to 168 GB | Up to 5,040 GB |
The arithmetic is hourly usage multiplied by time: a full day is 24 hours; a 30-day month is 720 hours. For a shorter schedule, multiply the applicable hourly estimate by the number of hours the stream actually plays.
How to estimate usage from a known bitrate
If you know the stream’s steady delivered bitrate to the viewer, a useful decimal-data calculation is 10.8 GB per day for each 1 Mbps, or 324 GB per 30-day month for each 1 Mbps. For example, a verified 2 Mbps delivered rate would work out to 21.6 GB per day and 648 GB over 30 days. This is a conversion, not a claim that a particular class stream runs at 2 Mbps.

Be careful not to substitute a creator’s live-stream encoder setting for the viewer’s delivery rate. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 3–8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps and 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, but those are settings sent into YouTube, not a measurement of what each viewer receives.
Will it exceed an Indian broadband data limit?
Compare the monthly estimate with the specific plan’s included data threshold and its post-threshold speed, often called FUP or post-FUP speed. A headline download-speed figure does not tell you whether continuous viewing will exhaust a data allowance.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
BharatNet’s FTTH page lists example thresholds of 700 GB, 1,400 GB, 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB, with reduced speeds after the threshold. These are examples of BharatNet offers and eligibility, not limits that apply to every Indian provider or household. Against those examples, the estimated 2,160 GB HD month is above 700 GB and 1,400 GB, but below 5,000 GB and 6,000 GB. The 5,040 GB Ultra HD estimate is near or above the larger examples. Those comparisons only apply if your own plan has the same allowance and viewing stays at the assumed quality throughout.
Why actual data use can differ
- Delivered quality and bitrate: Higher-quality video generally consumes more data. A streaming service may adjust quality as conditions change.
- Platform behavior: Jio notes that use varies by app or website. A recorded class can be delivered adaptively rather than at one fixed rate.
- Viewing hours: The table assumes the stream plays continuously. Pauses, outages or fewer viewing hours lower the total.
- Other household activity: The broadband allowance is shared with other devices and applications. TRAI notes that Indian households may have multiple devices using fixed broadband at once, with speed needs varying by application, location and user count.
- Plan terms: Data consumed and service after a plan threshold are separate issues. Check your provider’s current terms for your connection.
What published speed figures do—and do not—tell you
Playback-speed recommendations and bandwidth requirements can help explain connection needs, but they do not establish the exact data consumed by this particular stream. Netflix lists 3 Mbps or higher for 720p and 5 Mbps or higher for 1080p playback, while noting that multiple factors affect quality. Those are Netflix playback recommendations, not class-stream usage measurements.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
TRAI-hosted NCAER material published in 2012 gives historical approximate bandwidth requirements of 2 Mbps per video-streaming channel and 4–8 Mbps per HD video channel. Those figures are historical bandwidth context, not a current platform’s data-use guarantee.
How to get a more reliable number for your own account
- Check the class platform’s quality setting. If it offers a manual quality option, note what is selected; if it uses automatic quality, expect delivery to change with data speed.
- Measure a representative viewing period. Record your broadband usage before and after watching for a known number of hours, while accounting for other household activity where possible.
- Project the measured rate. Divide the measured data by the number of hours watched, then multiply by your expected daily hours and the days in your billing period.
- Check the provider’s usage reading and plan terms. Use the ISP’s actual usage meter and confirm both the data threshold and post-threshold speed for your plan.
Without the class platform, delivered quality or bitrate, and your plan details, no single monthly total can be stated reliably. A platform usage meter or your ISP’s account reading is better evidence for an individual stream than general quality estimates.
