For NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition, allow 1.4 inches (36 mm) of extra space for the power cable beyond the card’s listed dimensions. That is a case-planning allowance—not a universal cable bend-radius rule. Partner RTX 5090 cards can differ, so check the exact card’s dimensions and instructions, then confirm the cable fits with the side panel closed without being pushed.
How much clearance does an RTX 5090 power cable need?
NVIDIA’s Founders Edition installation guidance lists the RTX 5090 at 304 mm long, 137 mm high, and three slots, and calls for an additional 36 mm (1.4 inches) of space for power cables. The extra space is beyond the card dimensions. NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 installation guidance describes the Founders Edition and says graphics-card specifications vary by add-in-card manufacturer.
Do not interpret 36 mm as a specified minimum bend radius, a precise distance measured from the connector, or a guarantee that every card and case combination will fit. NVIDIA’s guidance does not define a universal connector-to-panel measurement or bend-start distance.
Does the 36 mm figure apply to every RTX 5090?
No. It is NVIDIA’s planning guidance for the Founders Edition context. Partner cards may have different dimensions, connector positions, and routing needs. Use the exact model’s specifications and installation instructions rather than assuming that the Founders Edition’s dimensions or clearance apply to it.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
NVIDIA’s separate SFF-Ready guideline sets a maximum card height of 151 mm that includes power-cable bend radius, alongside a maximum length of 304 mm and maximum depth of 50 mm (2.5 slots). Those are dimensions for that compatibility guideline, not a universal required gap between an RTX 5090 connector and a case panel.
How to check whether the side panel will press on the cable
- Check the exact card. Find its manufacturer’s listed length, height, thickness, connector location, and installation guidance. Do not rely on Founders Edition dimensions for a partner model.
- Connect the power cable before installing the card. NVIDIA recommends connecting its adapter to the card before installing the card in the motherboard.
- Seat the plug fully. NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 User Guide says: “Ensure the power plug is fully inserted and seated flush against the power receptacle.”
- Route the cable without forcing it. Check that it can leave the connector and follow its natural route without being pushed sharply toward the panel.
- Close the panel gently and inspect the fit. If the panel contacts or compresses the cable, do not force it closed. Recheck the route and the case’s available space; use a case that provides more room if the cable cannot sit freely.
The actual fit depends on the card’s connector orientation, cable stiffness, and chassis layout. Measure the assembled system rather than treating a general guideline as proof of clearance.

What to compare when choosing a case or card
- Card dimensions and connector position: Compare the exact model’s length, height, slot thickness, and where its power connector sits.
- Panel-side room: Consider the space from the connector and routed cable to the closed side panel, not just the card’s listed height.
- Unforced cable routing: The plug should be fully seated, with enough room for the cable to route without the panel pushing it.
- Power compatibility: Follow the GPU and PSU manufacturers’ cable and power requirements. A native 16-pin cable is appropriate only when the exact PSU and card support it; do not substitute an unverified modular cable or adapter.
For model-specific 16-pin connection instructions, consult the card maker—for example, ASUS’s support guidance. MSI’s RTX 50-series PSU guidance likewise emphasizes checking the exact card’s connector requirements; neither source establishes a universal cable-clearance number.
