Samsung provides Galaxy phones with security updates for up to seven years, but that is the maximum, not a guarantee for every model. The support period and update schedule depend on the exact phone. Samsung counts the seven-year commitment for the Galaxy S26 and S25 series from their global launch; select Galaxy A models have a six-year commitment. Check your model on Samsung’s current Mobile Security updates page to see whether it is still listed and how often updates are scheduled.

How long does support last for recent Galaxy phones?

Samsung’s published commitments differ by model and series:

Galaxy models Samsung’s stated security-update commitment How the period is counted
Galaxy S26 series Seven years From the initial global launch date, according to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 product information.
Galaxy S25 series Seven years From global launch, according to Samsung’s Galaxy S25 announcement.
Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 Six years of security updates Samsung’s announcement names these models and also promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades.

These are model-specific commitments, not a blanket policy for every Galaxy phone. The newest flagship promise should not be assumed to apply to older phones or the whole Galaxy A range.

Why older Galaxy phones may have shorter support

Samsung’s policies have changed over time. In 2022, it described up to five years of security updates for select devices. In 2021, it said listed Galaxy devices launched since 2019 would receive at least four years. Those historical announcements do not establish a single end date for every device. Look up the exact model rather than estimating support from its age or product tier.

How to check whether your Samsung phone still gets updates

  1. Find the exact model. On the phone, open Settings > About phone and note the model name or model number. Menu wording can vary by software version.
  2. Open Samsung’s Mobile Security updates page. Check its supported-device listings for your model.
  3. Check the listed schedule. Samsung’s page shows whether a supported model is on a monthly, quarterly, or other update schedule. A model’s presence on a less-frequent schedule does not mean it receives a monthly patch.
  4. Use the listing rather than a guessed end date. Do not calculate a final patch date from the phone’s release year unless Samsung publishes that date for the model.

Why update timing is not the same as the support promise

A stated support period describes Samsung’s commitment, but it does not guarantee that every patch arrives on a particular day. Samsung says update availability and timing vary by model, and its supported-device schedules can change. The current listing for your exact model is the best place to confirm its status and cadence.
