Samsung’s update commitment depends on the Galaxy A model. The Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G were announced with up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. The Galaxy A55 5G, A35 5G, A54 5G, and A34 5G were announced with up to four generations of OS/One UI upgrades and five years of security updates. These are separate measures, and neither promise applies automatically to every Galaxy A phone.
Galaxy A-series update support by model
Samsung’s published commitments for the models covered in its announcements are:
| Models and announcement year | Android OS and One UI upgrades | Security updates |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G (2025) | Up to six generations | Six years |
| Galaxy A55 5G and A35 5G (2024) | Up to four generations | Five years |
| Galaxy A54 5G and A34 5G (2023) | Up to four generations | Five years |
Samsung announced the 2025 commitment for the Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G. Its announcements for the A55 5G and A35 5G and the A54 5G and A34 5G state the earlier four-generation/five-year terms.
What the two update figures mean
Android OS and One UI upgrades
“Up to six generations” or “up to four generations” describes the maximum number of major Android OS and One UI upgrade generations in Samsung’s stated commitment for those models. It is not a promise that every Galaxy A model gets that number, nor does the generation count tell you the exact date an update will arrive.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Security updates
The separate security-update figure is a duration: six years for the named 2025 models and five years for the named 2024 and 2023 models. Do not turn “six years of security updates” into “six years of Android upgrades”; those are different commitments.
Why there is no single answer for every Galaxy A phone
Samsung’s 2022 policy announcement expanded support for select devices, not every phone in the Galaxy range. It also cautions that One UI upgrade availability and timing may vary by model and by the timing of Android OS upgrades. As a result, the terms for a particular A-series phone should be checked against that exact model and market rather than inferred from a newer or similarly named phone. See Samsung’s policy announcement for its broader caveat.

How to check your phone’s current update status
- Identify the exact Galaxy A model and the market or region where it was sold. Do not rely on the series name alone.
- Open Samsung’s support information for that model and region to check its current update status or schedule.
- Distinguish the published model commitment from a rollout announcement. A list of devices planned for a particular One UI release does not, by itself, establish each phone’s full support duration.
Samsung’s 2025 One UI 8 rollout announcement, for example, identifies devices planned to receive that release; it is not a substitute for a model-specific support commitment. The published commitments do not establish an exact final patch date for every regional SKU or the precise start date of each device’s support clock, so an exact end date should not be calculated from the announcement alone.

The figures describe Samsung’s stated maximum support duration for the named models. They do not independently measure how long a phone remains usable, establish how quickly every region or carrier receives updates, or guarantee that all models receive an update on the same date. Samsung’s own policy notes that timing can vary.
