Its security-update dates are not hardware expiration dates: Amazon explicitly says the update period does not guarantee how long a device will last. For most Stick models listed on Amazon UK’s current table, security updates are provided through December 31, 2030; the first-generation Fire TV Stick 4K is listed through December 31, 2029. Those dates describe security support, not when a Stick will stop working.
What Amazon’s support dates do—and do not—tell you
Amazon’s UK security-update policy says that, for a new device purchased from Amazon.co.uk with Amazon as the seller, security updates are provided for at least four years from purchase or until the later model-specific date in its table. The page cautions: “Please note the update period is not a guarantee as to how long your device will last.” Amazon’s Fire TV Software Security Updates page gives the current model dates and purchase conditions.
A support date is not a declared failure date or an instruction to replace the device. The official material does not say that apps will stop working when security updates end, and it does not guarantee that every app will remain compatible indefinitely. App availability and future compatibility should be checked for the specific device and app rather than inferred from the support date.

Amazon UK’s table lists the following dates for these models. They are security-update dates, not estimates of hardware life. Check Amazon’s live table for the latest information; the UK policy should not be treated as a statement of warranty or consumer rights in other regions.

How to identify your Fire TV Stick generation
Check the device’s model information before looking up a support date; similar names can refer to different generations. Tom’s Guide describes this on-device path:
- Open Settings.
- Select My Fire TV, then About.
- Choose Fire TV to view the device details.
Amazon’s Fire TV device and software-version listing and its developer documentation on identifying Fire TV devices distinguish models and generations. Menu labels can vary by software version.

Warranty is not the same as expected lifespan
Amazon UK lists a one-year limited warranty for Fire TV devices, including Stick models, on its Fire TV device and accessory warranty page. A warranty describes the period and terms for covered claims; it does not establish how long a device should last. Check the warranty terms for your country and purchase.

- It has failed or is unreliable: If the device cannot provide the functions you need, replacement may be more practical than continuing to rely on it.
- Your display needs have changed: If you now want 4K output, check that both the Stick model and the rest of your setup meet that requirement.
- You need features the current model lacks: Compare the exact model’s capabilities and software version with the features you want; model names and generations differ.
- An app you rely on is unavailable or incompatible: Check availability for your exact Fire TV device and software before buying another model. Amazon’s update policy does not promise that a particular app will continue to work after support ends.
- You are deciding based on security support: Find the exact generation and its date in Amazon’s current table, then weigh that information alongside how you use the device. The date itself does not mean the Stick has stopped working.
Amazon’s Fire TV device comparison information can help identify differences among models, but it is not a tested recommendation for which model will perform best for a particular viewer.
