The official sources reviewed do not say exactly how long DoorDash or Amazon keeps a customer-facing photo of a delivered order at your front door. DoorDash gives general rules for retaining personal information, while Amazon Shipping confirms that it provides photo proof of delivery for most shipments. Neither source gives a photo-specific retention period, so the title’s “worse than I thought” framing is not supported by a confirmed number.
What the available policies say about delivery-photo retention
A general data-retention policy and a photo-specific schedule are not the same thing. A company may explain why it keeps personal information without saying how long a particular type of image remains stored. In the official materials reviewed, neither company sets out a specific period for customer-facing doorstep photos.

DoorDash: broad retention rules, no photo timetable
DoorDash’s California consumer privacy policy says it may retain personal information while an account is active or as needed to provide services, maintain transaction records for financial reporting, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. It does not state how long a delivery photo is kept or whether a photo follows a separate schedule. DoorDash Privacy and its California Consumer Privacy Policy describe the relevant privacy terms and controls.
DoorDash also describes an account-data archive and account-deletion process, with a privacy-team contact for other information. The reviewed page does not promise that you can use either control to find or remove one specific delivery photo. Its statement about what Dashers can see is likewise limited: Dashers are shown order-related details needed to complete delivery, including the address, first name and last initial, delivery instructions, and a masked phone number. That does not specify access to, or retention of, a submitted delivery image.

Amazon: proof of delivery is offered, but duration is not stated
Amazon Shipping says photo proof of delivery is available for most shipments. Its description explains that a shipment can include a tracking number and a link to track.amazon.com with location updates, estimated delivery dates, and status; the page does not say how long the photo remains stored or viewable. Do not confuse doorstep photos with transportation-worker photos
Amazon has a separate Ground Transportation notice covering photos and facial-recognition information collected in connection with providing transportation services. It says Amazon may retain those photos while a person uses Amazon Transportation Technology and thereafter for as long as permitted by law. That notice concerns workers and transportation-related purposes—not a customer’s package at the front door—so it cannot establish how long a delivery proof photo is kept. Because the published materials do not resolve the duration for an individual image, contact the company through its privacy or customer-support channels and ask specifically about the delivery photo for the order in question. Include the order or tracking details and ask whether the image is still retained, whether it can be accessed, and whether it can be deleted. DoorDash’s described account controls should not be treated as a promise that an individual image is included.
