LEGO set 72306 turns the original PlayStation into a near-1:1-scale display model, complete with its grey rounded shape, front ports, a plug-in brick-built controller and functional model buttons. Open the console and you’ll find two hidden buildable scenes inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. It is a building set, not an electronic console or playable controller.
What the LEGO PlayStation set includes
The 18+ set has 1,911 pieces and recreates the original PlayStation console and its first controller. LEGO gives the assembled model’s dimensions as over 6 cm high, 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep, and describes it as near 1:1 scale. Those are the manufacturer’s specifications, not an independent measurement of the model against original hardware. LEGO’s product listing identifies it as set 72306.
How the model echoes the original PlayStation
The replica’s recognizable features are its grey silhouette, rounded corners, proportions, front ports and familiar controller layout. LEGO says its designers worked with PlayStation and consulted original schematics. Design Director Frédéric André described the process this way: “The design of the console translated quite well into LEGO bricks.” He also said, “We wanted fans to recognize it immediately.” LEGO’s design article explains that the team developed new elements for the controller buttons and the console’s Open and Power buttons to capture their appearance and tactile feel.
The controller plugs into the front
The controller is a brick-built display component that plugs into the model’s front, echoing the original arrangement. LEGO’s product information does not describe it as electronic or playable; it is not a functioning game controller.
