Google also announced agentic browsing for tasks such as booking a haircut, but described that capability as planned in September 2025—not as a feature whose general availability is established here. Which features you can use depends on your device, country, language, and account eligibility.
What does “intelligent partner” mean in Chrome?
Google’s September 18, 2025 announcement frames Chrome’s AI strategy as a shift from a passive window onto the web to a browser that can understand what is on screen and help with the work around it. In practice, that means asking questions about a webpage, drawing comparisons across open tabs, or using Google AI features without treating every question as a separate search.
The phrase is Google’s description of its direction, not a promise that Chrome will independently understand every site or complete every task. The announced features range from conversational help with page content to more ambitious actions that Google said it planned to add.
What can Gemini in Chrome help with?
Google says Gemini in Chrome can use the page you are viewing as context. Rather than copying a passage into a separate chat, you can ask for clarification or a summary of complex information on the page. Google also describes cross-tab help: Gemini can summarize and compare information across multiple tabs, which is useful when researching options spread across several sites.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro XL; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Page questions and summaries
Ask Gemini to explain a difficult section, summarize a long page, or answer a question about the material in view. The answer is meant to be grounded in that page context; it should not be treated as a guarantee that the summary is complete or that every detail has been interpreted correctly. Check the source page when a decision depends on a specific claim.
Comparing tabs and finding information in video
For research that spans open pages, Google says Gemini can compare information across multiple tabs. It can also help find references in YouTube videos, so a viewer can look for a relevant point without relying only on a video’s title or description.
Connecting browsing with Google services
Google describes Gemini in Chrome as working with services such as Docs and Calendar. The goal is to carry information from browsing into other parts of a task—for example, using what you have found while working in a document or organizing an event. The announcement does not establish that every integration or action is available to every user.

Can Gemini in Chrome book things or shop for you?
Google announced agentic browsing as a planned capability: Gemini would be able to carry out multi-step tasks on webpages, with examples including booking a haircut and ordering groceries. Google said users would be able to stop it at any time. That is a description of the September 2025 plan, not confirmation here that agentic browsing is generally available or that it can complete those specific tasks in every region or on every site.
There is an important difference between asking an AI to explain a page and asking it to act on one. Before relying on any agentic feature, check what it proposes to do and review consequential choices—such as a purchase, booking, or personal information entered on a site—yourself. Google’s announced ability to stop the process is a user control, not a substitute for reviewing the outcome.
How does AI Mode in Chrome’s address bar work?
Google is adding access to Search’s AI Mode from Chrome’s omnibox—the combined address and search bar. AI Mode is intended for longer, multi-part questions, follow-up questions, and deeper exploration of web links. This gives users a route from a question in the address bar into an AI-assisted search experience, rather than limiting AI help to the contents of the current tab.

- Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]

That is distinct from asking Gemini about a page already open in Chrome: AI Mode starts from a search question, while page-context assistance uses the page you are viewing. Google’s announcements describe the capabilities, but do not establish that the same controls or availability apply to every user.
Can Chrome suggest questions about the page you are reading?
Google has also described contextual page questions: Chrome can suggest questions based on the page in view and show an AI Overview alongside it. Readers can then ask follow-up questions without leaving that browsing flow. This is another way Chrome may surface AI help while you read, rather than requiring you to formulate a query from scratch in a separate experience.
Where and on which devices is Gemini in Chrome available?
The September 18, 2025 launch announcement said Gemini in Chrome was rolling out to desktop users in the United States on Mac and Windows, using English. Google’s March 11, 2026 update documented expansion to India, New Zealand, and Canada, as well as support for more than 50 additional languages, and described features for Chromebook Plus.
These announcements establish an expanding rollout, not universal availability. Access can depend on device, country, language, and account eligibility. The information available here does not specify a complete country-by-country list, every eligible account type, or a single date by which all users should expect access.
| Device or access route | What Google has described | Availability qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Windows and Mac desktop | Gemini in Chrome, including page assistance and cross-tab help | Initially announced for U.S. desktop users using English in September 2025; later expansion was documented in March 2026. |
| Chromebook Plus | Google’s March 2026 update described Chrome AI features for Chromebook Plus. | The update does not establish that every feature is available on every Chromebook Plus device or account. |
| Mobile | Google’s September 2025 announcement said mobile expansion was planned. | The cited announcements do not establish general mobile availability for Gemini in Chrome. |
| AI Mode in the omnibox | Access to Search’s AI Mode from Chrome’s address bar for longer questions and follow-ups. | Availability depends on rollout and eligibility; the announcements do not provide a complete current country or account list. |
If you do not see these features, that alone does not show that your browser is broken. Your device, location, language, or account may not yet be eligible, or a particular capability may still be rolling out.

Google describes several AI-assisted safety efforts in Chrome: scam warnings, fixes for compromised passwords, reduced spam notifications, and simpler privacy-permission decisions. These are intended to help people recognize risky activity and manage common interruptions or account problems. They do not make every website safe or remove the need to judge whether a request for information or permission is appropriate.

Google said its AI-powered warnings for Chrome users on Android blocked about 3 billion fewer scammy and spammy website notifications per day in 2025. That figure is Google’s claim about the effect of those warnings on Android; it is not a count of all scams prevented across Chrome platforms.
What changes for a Chrome user?
The practical shift is that Chrome is becoming a place where search, page-level explanation, cross-tab research, and some Google-service workflows can meet. A person can ask about a page instead of manually extracting its details, or ask AI Mode a broader question and follow the links it surfaces. These are assistance features: the source page and the user remain important checks on accuracy and on decisions with real consequences.
Google’s more ambitious vision is a browser that can adapt to what a person is trying to do and take steps on their behalf. The September 2025 announcement makes clear that this direction includes planned agentic actions, but the features and availability described in Google’s March 2026 update should not be conflated with confirmation that every planned action is already available.
