Fortnite Crew is a recurring subscription; V-Bucks are currency you can spend on Item Shop skins. Crew currently includes 800 V-Bucks per month, a monthly Crew Pack, and access to the passes listed on Epic’s subscription page. Buying V-Bucks separately gives you a balance to spend, without Crew’s subscription benefits. Which route suits you depends on whether you want those extra benefits and whether you will cancel before another renewal.
Fortnite Crew and V-Bucks are different things
V-Bucks are Fortnite’s virtual currency. You can use them in the Item Shop to buy Outfits (skins), Emotes, and other cosmetics. Fortnite Crew is a subscription that bundles V-Bucks with other benefits; it is not simply a discounted way to buy one particular skin.

- Fortnite Crew: a recurring subscription that currently includes 800 V-Bucks per month, a monthly Crew Pack, and access to the passes listed on Epic’s current page. Epic describes Crew Pack cosmetics as exclusive to subscribers.
- Separately purchased V-Bucks: currency added to your balance for spending in Fortnite. Package prices and regional equivalents vary, and the purchase does not include Crew’s pass access or Crew Pack.
Epic announced that the Crew grant would fall from 1,000 to 800 V-Bucks effective March 19, 2026; its current Crew page also lists 800. Some Epic terms text still shows the former amount, so use the current subscription page rather than that older figure. Epic’s page says, “Fortnite Crew monthly content is subject to change.” Epic’s Fortnite Crew page and Epic’s March 10, 2026 announcement provide the current benefit and change details.
How Crew or V-Bucks can get you a skin
Use V-Bucks on an Item Shop Outfit
Buy V-Bucks in a package available for your region and platform, then spend them on an Outfit when it appears in the Item Shop. Shop stock and individual skin prices change; Epic’s cited information does not establish a price for any particular skin. Check the in-game shop before deciding how much currency to buy.

- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts

Get Crew for its bundle of benefits
Crew’s monthly V-Bucks can contribute to a skin purchase, but the subscription also includes its Crew Pack and listed pass access. The U.S. English Crew page lists $11.99 monthly as of October 4, 2026; price and features can differ by region or platform and may change. Compare the current local subscription price with the V-Bucks package you would otherwise buy, and count the other Crew benefits only if you actually want them.
Consider the Battle Pass separately
Epic’s current Battle Pass page lists an 800 V-Bucks purchase price and says progression can unlock up to 800 V-Bucks. Epic’s March 2026 announcement says the pass awards 800 V-Bucks on completion. Those are in-game pass rewards, not cash back or a guaranteed skin. XP earned in any Fortnite experience progresses the pass, and pass items may become available in the Fortnite Shop at least 18 months after the pass expires; availability and styles can vary. See Epic’s Battle Pass page.

Choose based on what you actually want
| Question | Fortnite Crew | V-Bucks purchase |
|---|---|---|
| What do you receive? | 800 V-Bucks monthly, a Crew Pack, and access to the passes listed on the current page. | A currency balance to spend in Fortnite; no Crew Pack or Crew subscription pass benefits. |
| Is it recurring? | Yes. It renews until canceled. | V-Bucks are bought as a separate package rather than through Crew’s recurring subscription. |
| Best fit if… | You value the included cosmetics and pass access as well as the V-Bucks, and are comfortable managing renewal. | You want currency for an Item Shop purchase and do not need Crew’s other benefits. |
For a single skin, first check that it is currently available and note its in-game V-Bucks price. Then compare that need with the local price of a suitable V-Bucks package and the current Crew subscription. A skin’s availability is not guaranteed, and a Crew subscription can cost more than a one-time currency purchase if you do not value its other benefits. Cancel before the next renewal if you only wanted one month.
Billing, cancellation, and platform considerations
Crew is billed on a recurring basis until canceled. Epic says to cancel through the platform where you bought the subscription; Crew remains associated with that purchase platform. Received items may be accessible across platforms, but V-Bucks may not be redeemable on other platforms. Epic’s terms advise logging in on the primary platform as needed to access subscription content. Check your platform account settings for its current cancellation steps, since platform processes differ. See Epic’s Fortnite Crew subscription terms.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Under Epic’s stated policy, canceling does not remove subscription content already received or premium rewards already earned, and there is no prorated refund, subject to statutory rights. Access to claim further premium pass rewards can depend on whether active Crew is required for that pass and on your account circumstances. Check the current in-game pass and subscription terms for your specific account.
