On Apple silicon, Cyberpunk 2077’s graphics settings affect frame rate chiefly through resolution, upscaling and ray tracing. Start with the game’s For this Mac preset: it selects settings and a resolution for the detected Mac, with more powerful hardware assigned higher quality. Treat CD PROJEKT RED’s FPS figures as targets for specified configurations—not guarantees for every scene, display or workload.
What FPS targets does CD PROJEKT RED recommend?
The developer’s Mac requirements list four hardware tiers. These figures are recommended targets, not independently measured promises of sustained performance in every part of the game.

These configurations and targets are from CD PROJEKT RED’s Mac system requirements (2025). The page also specifies macOS 15.5 or later and SSD storage. Its resolution guidance is explicit: “Using a higher resolution will significantly affect FPS.” Actual results can vary with the Mac configuration, scene, display resolution and settings.
Which settings have the biggest effect on FPS?
Output resolution
Higher output resolution requires more rendering work and can lower frame rate. The developer recommends using the resolution assigned by For this Mac, including when using an external display. If performance is unsatisfactory, trying a lower output resolution is a direct adjustment, but there is no universal FPS gain to expect: the result depends on the specific Mac and display.

MetalFX upscaling and Dynamic Resolution Scaling
MetalFX upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the output at a higher resolution, reducing the work needed for the displayed image. Dynamic Resolution Scaling (DRS) can adjust resolution under load to help maintain performance. Apple’s WWDC technical session on the Mac port describes these techniques as providing headroom in demanding scenes and helping stabilize performance.
These features balance image quality and performance; the available sources do not establish one FPS uplift that applies to every Mac or setting combination. In some configurations DRS must be enabled manually, so check the game’s graphics options rather than assuming it is active.

Ray tracing
Ray tracing is off in the default For this Mac preset, including on capable systems. It must be enabled manually by choosing a ray-tracing preset or changing the Ray Tracing settings. CD PROJEKT RED lists M3 or newer and at least 16 GB RAM as the requirement for ray tracing availability.
The developer’s Ray Tracing Medium targets are 30 FPS on an M3 Pro with 18 GB RAM and 60 FPS on an M3 Max with 36 GB RAM, at 1800×1125 or 1920×1080 with MetalFX DRS enabled manually. These are specific developer targets, not guarantees for every scene. See the ray-tracing requirements for the stated configurations.

Overall preset and demanding scenes
The device-based preset scales quality to the detected hardware. For example, CD PROJEKT RED lists an M2 Max Mac Studio running High graphics at 1920×1080 with MetalFX DRS and a 60 FPS target. That example illustrates how a preset can pair quality and resolution with a hardware tier; it does not establish that every M2 Max Mac or scene will hold 60 FPS. Performance can be more demanding in crowded areas, dense driving scenes, combat and scenes with many reflections. Apple’s WWDC account describes these as heavy CPU/GPU cases considered during the port’s development. A quiet area is therefore not a sufficient test of whether a setting combination will remain smooth throughout play.

What settings should you use on your Mac?
- Begin with the device preset. In the game’s graphics settings, use For this Mac so the game selects a hardware-appropriate quality level and resolution.
- Check how it performs in demanding gameplay. Compare performance in a crowded area, combat or dense driving—not only in a quiet location.
- If performance needs improvement, change one setting at a time. Try lowering output resolution first; then check MetalFX/DRS settings. This makes it easier to see which change helps on your Mac.
- Enable ray tracing only if you want its visual effects and your configuration meets the stated requirement. It is not part of the default device preset. If you turn it on, use the developer’s tier-specific targets as guidance, not as a promise.
Repeat comparisons in the same demanding scene and keep other settings unchanged. This is a practical self-test for your particular Mac, not a standardized benchmark: frame rate varies with scene, resolution, hardware configuration and settings.
Why there is no universal FPS change for each toggle
CD PROJEKT RED publishes target configurations and a device-based preset, while Apple explains how MetalFX and DRS help the port handle demanding scenes. Those sources do not provide a controlled chart isolating the FPS change from every graphics option across every Apple silicon Mac. Tom’s Guide has reported benchmarks on a sample of Macs, but its coverage is not exhaustive; those results describe its tested machines rather than universal performance.
