Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIoT improves commercial laundry primarily by making equipment and processes visible while they are running. Connected washers, dryers, sensors and management software can show cycle status, faults, maintenance conditions, water and energy readings, and other process measurements. Staff can then respond to a specific machine or threshold instead of relying only on rounds, customer reports or end-of-shift checks.
The technology does not guarantee a fixed percentage reduction in costs, water use or downtime. Results depend on the machines, sensors, network, software and—most importantly—whether staff act on the information.
What an IoT-enabled commercial laundry looks like
A connected laundry normally has three layers:
- Machines and sensors: Washers, dryers and added sensors generate data such as cycle state, faults, water, air, temperature, energy or tank conditions. The exact readings depend on the equipment and instrumentation.
- Connectivity and software: A wired, Wi-Fi or cellular connection carries data to a monitoring or management platform. The platform stores and displays the information for operators and technicians.
- People and workflows: Managers review dashboards, staff respond to alerts, and technicians use machine-specific information to prepare a repair or decide whether a site visit is needed.
DANUBE describes this model in DANUBE ONLINE, which presents cycles in progress and completed, maintenance information, and water and energy consumption for on-premises laundries. OptConnect’s Mission Laundry case describes customer notifications alongside back-end access to machine status. These are documented product and deployment examples, not proof that every connected laundry exposes the same data or controls.
Immediate benefits for operators
See every machine’s status
A central view can show which machines are running, idle, complete, faulted or awaiting service. In a distributed operation, that visibility can reduce phone calls and manual checks and help staff direct customers or production loads to available capacity.

Give technicians a precise starting point
WASHCO’s Vodafone and Onecom deployment used sensors and recording devices so staff could identify the machine and problem before sending a technician. That can improve preparation and routing: a technician can bring the likely part or tools and go to the relevant machine rather than inspect an entire room first. It does not make every repair remote or eliminate breakdowns.
Peter Hosking, WASHCO’s managing director, said Vodafone’s platform provided “a stable, secure communication between our washing machines and our portal” with technical support. This is a statement about that implementation, not an independent performance test.
Receive alerts when conditions change
Alerts are useful when a reading crosses a meaningful limit—for example, an abnormal temperature, air or water condition, a tank-level issue or a machine fault. The ifm case for Initial describes moneo software monitoring water, air and temperature and sending threshold alerts. An alert has operational value only when someone owns the response, verifies the condition and records the action.

How IoT can reduce avoidable downtime
Prioritize the right service call
Machine identity, current status and recent readings help a service desk distinguish an isolated fault from a site-wide problem. A technician can decide whether to stop a machine, adjust a process, dispatch a visit or continue monitoring. Mission Laundry’s Adam Dragomanovich described direct access to machines during issues as valuable; that quote reflects the company’s own deployment.

Use condition information for maintenance planning
Historical cycles and process measurements can reveal recurring faults, unusual operating patterns or equipment that needs attention. This supports planned inspections and parts preparation. The available evidence does not establish universal predictive accuracy, a guaranteed reduction in service visits or the elimination of preventive maintenance.
Keep the physical boundary clear
Software can identify a problem and sometimes change a supported setting, but electrical, mechanical, plumbing and safety work still requires qualified personnel on site. Define in advance which actions are remote, which require confirmation, and which must always be performed physically.

Monitor water, energy and process quality
Connected measurements can turn utility and process data into operating decisions:
- Compare water or energy consumption by machine, cycle or time period.
- Spot a temperature, air or water value outside the chosen operating range.
- Investigate supply, tank-level or process deviations before they affect a large batch.
- Relate resource use to throughput, rather than judging a machine from a single reading.
Wientjens describes its equipment at Oxwash as IoT-enabled for real-time water and energy information, system performance and predictive maintenance. Its reported water-use result is specific to that operation and is not a sector benchmark. The page also notes that Oxwash was acquired by Elis at the end of 2025.

Support customers and production teams
In self-service or mixed-use operations, status notifications can indicate that a machine is available or that a load has finished. Mission Laundry’s case describes those features for its own service. In an industrial laundry, the same underlying status data can help schedulers assign loads, identify bottlenecks and verify that a cycle completed, but the workflow must be configured for that facility.
Connectivity is a design decision, not an afterthought
Check machine compatibility
Confirm the washer or dryer make, model, control generation, available interface and whether a supported retrofit exists. Ask which readings and commands are exposed; a platform cannot display data that the machine or added sensor does not provide.
Select the network for each site
Wi-Fi may be suitable in a stable, managed building. Hongdian’s case describes industrial cellular routers for a multi-region laundry operator where Wi-Fi could be unreliable. A cellular router is an enabling component, not a universal plug-in for every washer: verify carrier coverage, supported bands, electrical and environmental requirements, antenna placement and who manages the data plan and gateway.

- Define the decisions first. List the problems to solve—missed faults, unplanned visits, utility visibility, customer status or production scheduling—and the person responsible for each response.
- Baseline the operation. Record water, energy, throughput, cycle times, service visits, fault types and downtime for a representative period. Keep the measurement method and site conditions consistent.
- Inventory equipment and coverage. Map every machine, control interface, sensor requirement and network location. Test Wi-Fi and cellular coverage where equipment is installed.
- Run a limited pilot. Connect representative machines and verify data accuracy, timestamps, alert thresholds, user permissions and what happens when the network is unavailable.
- Integrate the workflow. Route alerts to named staff or a maintenance system, define acknowledgement and escalation times, and record the eventual cause and fix.
- Review after deployment. Compare results with the baseline by machine and site. Separate changes caused by the IoT system from those caused by load mix, staffing, equipment replacement or other process changes.
What to compare when evaluating platforms
| Evaluation area | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Equipment support | Which makes, models and control generations are supported? Are retrofits available and warranty-safe? |
| Measurements | Can the system provide cycle state, faults, water, energy, temperature and other required process variables? |
| Alerts | Are thresholds configurable? Who receives alerts, and can acknowledgement and escalation be tracked? |
| Remote actions | What can be changed remotely, what requires confirmation, and what remains a physical service task? |
| Connectivity | Does each site use Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular or a combination? Who supplies coverage, routers and data service? |
| Integrations | Can data connect to maintenance, payment, scheduling or business-management systems? |
| Data and support | How are data access, retention, export, security, updates and support handled? |
| Total cost | What are the separate hardware, installation, connectivity, platform and service charges? The cited sources do not provide comparable prices. |
Documented scale and capability examples
These figures illustrate individual deployments and must not be treated as industry averages:
- More than 30,000 connected washing machines: Hongdian reports this for one multi-region operator in a 2026 vendor case study; it is not an independently audited industry total.
- About 10,000 to 11,000 garments per day: The ifm case gives this throughput for Initial; the page’s publication date was not stated in the material reviewed.
- Up to 20 machines powered simultaneously: Vodafone reports this capability for WASHCO’s implementation; it is a feature of that deployment, not a general system limit.
Limits and common mistakes
- Assuming a dashboard automatically creates savings without changing maintenance or operating decisions.
- Comparing sites with different load mixes, machine ages, staffing or utility conditions and attributing every change to IoT.
- Buying a gateway before checking machine interfaces and network coverage.
- Sending every alert to everyone, which creates alert fatigue and ignored faults.
- Promising remote repair, universal retrofit compatibility or guaranteed predictive maintenance.
- Using a vendor case-study result as a neutral benchmark.
For a defensible business case, measure the baseline and post-deployment values for water, energy, throughput, service visits and downtime, and state the period, site and operating conditions for each result.
