An Intel Core Ultra 9 285K’s integrated Intel Graphics reached 4,250 MHz during an extreme overclocking demonstration at Computex 2025. The community record-setting peak required liquid nitrogen cooling to about -170°C and roughly 1.7 V on the graphics rail. It was a short-duration validation result—not a clock or configuration for everyday use, and not proof that games run faster at 4.25 GHz.

What the 4,250 MHz record actually measured

The result came from the integrated Intel Graphics in the Arrow Lake Core Ultra 9 285K, not from a discrete Arc graphics card. Overclocker Pieter-Jan “Skatterbencher” Plaisier first achieved it during pretesting on May 9, 2025, then repeated it live at the Computex 2025 G.SKILL World Record OC Stage.

GPU-Z showed an 85X graphics ratio. The reported frequency follows from a 50 MHz graphics clock—half the 100 MHz SOC reference clock—multiplied by 85, producing 4,250 MHz. In other words, the headline figure was tied to a specific ratio and reference-clock configuration, not a claim about the iGPU’s normal operating frequency.

This is best described as a community overclocking record. SkatterBencher notes that there is no single authoritative source for GPU-frequency records. Its leaderboard requires the GPU to be active, but not to complete a long or demanding workload. The listed previous high was 4,020 MHz on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, so the 4,250 MHz result exceeded that listed mark under the leaderboard’s criteria.

What it took to reach 4.25 GHz

The system used an ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Apex motherboard, with assistance from ASUS overclocker Shamino. The graphics rail was set to about 1.7 V, and liquid nitrogen cooled the chip to approximately -170°C. The 85X graphics ratio was the highest available in the reported setup.

Those conditions are central to understanding the result: this was an extreme, short-duration overclocking demonstration. The voltage and cooling should not be treated as a recipe for a conventional PC or a daily-use setting.

Peak frequency did not mean peak performance

At 4.25 GHz, selected FurMark and 3DMark tests could run, but the scores stopped improving above roughly 4 GHz. SkatterBencher reported plateaus near 2,800 FurMark points, 650 in 3DMark Speed Way, and 17.9 seconds in GPUPI 1B. These results show why a frequency record and a performance record are not interchangeable: a higher displayed clock did not keep producing faster benchmark results.

Configuration or observation What was reported
Peak-frequency demonstration 4,250 MHz at an 85X graphics ratio; selected tests could run, but benchmark scaling plateaued above about 4 GHz.
Full test-set configuration 3,900 MHz graphics, DDR5-8600 memory at about 1.6 V, and approximately -160°C cooling. HotHardware reported a geomean improvement above 75% versus stock for this configuration; Novabench GPU gains reached 99%.
Reference-clock experiment With the SOC reference clock raised from 100 to 110 MHz, SkatterBencher reported 17.177 seconds in GPUPI 1B at 4,180 MHz and an improvement of almost 10% at the same GPU clock.

The 3,900 MHz figures belong to the configuration used for a stable full benchmark suite; they should not be mistaken for the 4,250 MHz peak. The reported gains are benchmark results from that extreme setup, not an estimate of how much faster games will run on an ordinary Core Ultra 9 285K system.

Why performance may have stalled above 4 GHz

SkatterBencher’s proposed explanation is a bottleneck in the graphics die-to-die (D2D) interface. The evidence is the change in benchmark behavior when the SOC reference clock was increased: graphics D2D frequency rose from its 2.1 GHz default to 2.31 GHz at a 110 MHz reference clock, while GPUPI 1B improved even at a 4,180 MHz GPU frequency.

That points to the possibility that the graphics core was waiting on another part of the chip, rather than benefiting from more core clock alone. It is an inference from the observed results, not a confirmed diagnosis. The practical lesson is narrower: in this demonstration, adjusting the reference clock and the associated D2D frequency improved scaling where a higher GPU ratio by itself had run into diminishing returns.

What this means for everyday users

The result demonstrates what an experienced overclocker could validate with specialized cooling and unusually high voltage; it does not establish a safe daily setting or predict gaming performance. The full test suite itself was run at a lower graphics frequency than the record peak, and even that setup used liquid nitrogen and high-speed memory.

Intel’s Arc Control guidance for desktop Arc cards says overvoltage can damage a GPU, shorten its lifespan, or reduce system stability, and warns that performance increases are not guaranteed. That guidance is a general caution, not documentation that the 4.25 GHz setup is an available or appropriate tuning profile for the Core Ultra 9 285K’s integrated graphics. For ordinary use, treat this record as an extreme validation stunt—not a target to reproduce.
