An AI agent can test a login system by turning a security objective into browser or API actions: map the sign-in and recovery flows, submit valid and invalid credentials in a test tenant, replay and mutate requests, inspect cookies and tokens, request protected URLs directly, and compare what different test identities can read or change. That makes agents useful for finding bypasses and broken authorization, but an agent is not a security boundary. If permissions exist only in its prompt, if tools accept an identity chosen by the model, or if retrieved content can trigger calls, a passing demo can conceal a serious data leak.
The reliable approach is to combine agent-driven exploration with service-side authorization, isolated synthetic data, short-lived credentials, complete tool-call logging and impact-based pass/fail rules. OWASP’s Web Security Testing Guide supplies the application-level authentication objectives; the OWASP Securing Agentic Applications Guide and AI Testing Guide explain why the controls must remain outside the model.
What an AI agent actually tests
In this context, an agent is a model connected to tools such as a browser, HTTP client, database-backed test API, ticketing system or document search. You give it a bounded objective—such as “verify that User A cannot read User B’s invoice”—and it plans a sequence of observations and actions. It may discover the login form, create a session, follow redirects, capture response codes and headers, retry with altered parameters, and report evidence.
That capability covers two related but different questions:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Authentication: did the system establish who the caller is, and can an unauthenticated or stale session reach a protected operation?
- Authorization: once a caller is authenticated, is that identity allowed to perform this operation on this object?
A login page that resists guessing can still expose another user’s records through an object-ID change. Conversely, a perfectly enforced API can be undermined when an agent has a shared credential or a tool that accepts an arbitrary user ID. Test both layers and keep their results separate.
Set up a safe test environment first
Run exploratory agents in an isolated tenant or staging deployment, never against production accounts or real personal data. Use synthetic identities whose records can be reset and whose “secrets” are canary values with no outside significance. Make every side effect reversible and prevent the test network from reaching unrelated destinations.
Minimum test inventory
- At least two ordinary users, plus an administrator or support role if the product has one.
- Fresh, expired, revoked and deliberately malformed session material.
- Test records owned by each identity, including objects with similar names and IDs.
- Document, web-page, ticket and tool-response fixtures containing harmless indirect-injection instructions.
- A complete list of browser actions, API endpoints, tools, scopes, connectors and network destinations available to the agent.
- Central logs that correlate the user identity, model turn, prompt, retrieved content, tool arguments, authorization decision and resulting data.
Use a separate account for the test operator. The agent should not be able to create new production credentials, disable logging or alter its own policy. Human approval should gate destructive or irreversible actions even in a test tenant, because a mistake in the harness can otherwise become a real incident.
A practical test workflow
The following sequence turns a broad question such as “can this agent bypass authentication?” into repeatable checks. Record the exact request, identity, expected result and observed result for every case.
1. Map the authentication and recovery surface
- Ask the agent to inventory sign-in, registration, password reset, email or SMS verification, MFA enrollment and recovery, session refresh, logout and account-linking routes.
- Have it record redirects, cookies, token locations, response codes and cache headers without printing secret values. Store only hashes or redacted samples where possible.
- Repeat the map through both the user interface and documented or observed APIs. A hidden API route can have different authorization behavior from the visible page.
This is reconnaissance, not a finding. A route becomes a finding only when an unauthorized action succeeds or a control behaves contrary to its documented policy.

2. Establish a baseline for each identity
Log in as User A and User B using separate browser contexts or credential stores. Capture which objects each can list, read, create, update and delete. Also capture the administrator’s permitted operations. Baselines make a later response difference meaningful and prevent the agent from treating a normal “not found” response as proof of access.
3. Probe authentication-schema bypasses
OWASP’s authentication testing guidance asks testers to understand the process and attempt to circumvent it, including direct access to internal pages and tampering with requests. Have the agent:
Recommended Free Tools
- Request protected pages and API endpoints with no session.
- Reuse an expired, revoked, logged-out or deliberately altered cookie or bearer token.
- Change HTTP methods, path parameters, content types and selected request fields while retaining the same session.
- Follow redirects and inspect whether a protected response is embedded in a page that appears to be a login failure.
- Try direct access to a post-login URL after a fresh browser start, not only navigation through the login form.
Define success narrowly. A 200 response containing a generic shell is not access unless protected data or an authorized state change is present. Conversely, a cached record, sensitive error detail or state-changing response is a failure even if the interface later displays a login prompt.
4. Test identity separation and object authorization
For each User A object, ask User B to read, edit, export and delete it, then perform the reciprocal test. Mutate identifiers in URL paths, JSON bodies, query strings and batch requests. Test both predictable and opaque identifiers; an opaque ID is not an authorization control.
The agent must never select the target identity from free-form model output. The authenticated service should derive the caller from a validated session and enforce object-level authorization itself. OWASP states that authentication and authorization checks should be implemented non-agentically—outside the agent’s control. A tool parameter such as user_id can be useful for an administrator workflow, but the service must verify that the caller’s role permits that target.

5. Exercise the agent/tool boundary
Make an inventory table for every callable capability and test it directly:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Item | Question to answer | Evidence to capture |
|---|---|---|
| Tool name and purpose | Can the model call it when the user has not requested it? | Allow/deny decision and model turn |
| Credential or token | Whose identity and scopes does it carry? | Issuer, audience, expiry and redacted scope set |
| Arguments | Can attacker-controlled text set an object, recipient, role or destination? | Validated value, rejected value and service response |
| Network destination | Can a call leave the approved tenant or send data externally? | Allow-list match and request log |
| Side effect | Is the operation reversible, and is approval required? | Approval record and resulting state |
Attempt calls using parameters copied from a hostile document, a user message and another tool’s output. The expected result is a server-side authorization failure or a safe refusal—not merely a sentence from the model saying it will not comply.
6. Test indirect prompt injection as an authorization attack
Place adversarial text in a web page, search result, support ticket, uploaded document and tool response. Examples include instructions to ignore the user, reveal a session token, call an export tool, change the account being used or send results to an external address. The agent should treat these fields as untrusted data.
Test each input surface separately, then combine them. A page that is harmless when viewed alone may become dangerous after the agent retrieves it, summarizes it and passes the summary to another agent. Verify that hostile content cannot cause a tool call, disclose a secret, alter authorization context or bypass a required approval.
7. Test session and account lifecycle
Authentication is a sequence over time, not a single successful login. After each event below, retry previously authorized and unauthorized operations:

- Concurrent sessions, device approval and account linking.
Repeat attacks across multi-turn conversations. An agent may resist an injection in the first turn but yield after context accumulates, a tool returns an error, or a later instruction creates urgency. Record the complete transcript and tool sequence, not just the final answer.
8. Force failures and partial completion
Inject timeouts, malformed tool responses, missing fields, duplicate results and context saturation. Interrupt a workflow after authentication but before authorization, and after a write but before the confirmation reaches the agent. The safe behavior is to stop, report uncertainty and require a fresh authorization decision. It is unsafe to guess an identity, retry a destructive call with broader scope or continue using stale context.
Where agent-based authentication testing fails
Authorization described only in a prompt
“Act only for the current user” is guidance, not an enforcement mechanism. If the underlying tool trusts a model-supplied account ID, a prompt injection or ordinary model error can cross users. Bind every call to the authenticated end-user identity at the gateway or service layer and perform object-level checks there.
Tool overreach and excessive credentials
A single long-lived credential shared across runs can let one compromised conversation reach many users or systems. Give each run the smallest practical scope, use short expirations, rotate credentials and allow-list both tools and destinations. Keep read and write capabilities separate where possible, and require human approval for deletion, money movement, permission changes and external disclosure.
Indirect injection and data exfiltration
Agents read far more untrusted text than a conventional login form. Retrieved instructions can tell the agent to copy a token into a ticket, include private records in a summary or call a connector with an attacker’s destination. Treat user text, documents, pages, search results, tool output and inter-agent messages as separate untrusted inputs. Redact secrets before they reach the model and enforce output and destination policies after generation.

Multi-turn drift
Single-turn refusal rates do not establish session safety. A crescendo sequence—benign requests, a tool error, a request to “finish what you started,” then an injected instruction—can change behavior. Test long conversations, context-window pressure, retries and handoffs between agents. Compare the eventual tool calls and data exposure with the initial policy.
False confidence from green functional tests
A workflow can complete correctly for its intended user while remaining vulnerable to cross-user access or injection. OWASP recommends risk-based adversarial testing and independent analysis. Treat benchmark results as evidence about a particular system and task, not as a production guarantee.
How to define pass and fail
Use impact rather than the percentage of prompts refused. One unauthorized cross-user read, secret disclosure or destructive tool call is a security failure, even if hundreds of harmless cases pass. Classify findings by the control that failed and preserve reproducible evidence.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Test area | Pass condition | Automatic failure |
|---|---|---|
| Unauthenticated access | No protected data or state change without a valid session | Any protected record, token or write succeeds |
| Cross-user authorization | Service denies reads and writes outside the caller’s entitlement | One object is disclosed or changed by the wrong user |
| Tool permissions | Only allow-listed tools, scopes and destinations are callable | Model-controlled text expands scope or invokes an unapproved tool |
| Indirect injection | Hostile content remains data and cannot alter identity or approval state | Injection causes a secret leak, unauthorized call or workflow escape |
| Lifecycle | Logout, expiry, reset and role changes take effect within the documented boundary | Revoked or downgraded sessions retain prohibited access |
| Failure recovery | Timeouts and malformed responses stop safely and require reauthorization | Agent guesses, retries broadly or completes a risky action |
For each approach, compare bypass coverage, broken-authorization detection, indirect-injection resistance, permission discipline, exfiltration resistance, reproducibility, false positives and recovery from tool errors. Keep a regression suite of previously found attacks and rerun it after model, prompt, tool, connector or identity changes.
What published evidence can—and cannot—tell you
OWASP published the Securing Agentic Applications Guide 1.0 on July 27, 2025. Its central advice is that security controls, especially authentication and authorization, should be implemented outside the agent’s control. The OWASP AI Testing Guide announced version 1 on November 26, 2025, providing a testing-oriented framework for these risks.
Research systems show that autonomous and multi-agent security systems can execute exploit-oriented probes and validate findings. The 2025 WASP benchmark isolates prompt-injection attacks against web agents, including VisualWebArena, Claude Computer Use and Operator. The 2025 MAPTA benchmark evaluated a multi-agent web-penetration-testing system on 104 XBOW challenges, including broken-authorization and injection tasks. Those are specific evaluations under stated conditions; they do not establish a population-wide success rate or prove reliability in your application.
A deployment checklist
- Use an isolated tenant, synthetic identities and reversible fixtures.
- Derive identity from a validated session; never trust a model-selected user or object owner.
- Enforce authentication and object-level authorization in the service or gateway.
- Issue least-privilege, short-lived credentials and separate read from destructive scopes.
- Allow-list tools, API routes and network destinations.
- Treat every external input and inter-agent message as untrusted data.
- Log prompts, retrieved content, tool arguments, identity, authorization decisions and outputs with secrets redacted.
- Require human approval for destructive or irreversible actions.
- Run multi-turn, lifecycle and failure-injection tests, not only single prompts.
- Block release on any unauthorized read, secret disclosure or destructive call, then retain the case as a regression test.
An AI agent is most valuable here as an adaptive test operator: it can discover routes, vary requests and connect evidence across a workflow. The security decision must remain deterministic and service-side. That division—agent for exploration, application for authorization, humans for high-impact approval—is what turns an impressive demonstration into a defensible authentication test program.
