There is no responsible winner to name yet. The title appears to combine an unidentified HONOR 8.4-inch tablet with several different Samsung Galaxy Tab models. HONOR’s official Pad 8 is a 12-inch tablet, while Samsung has documented both a 2014 Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and a separate Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020). Those are different products with different displays, launch eras and software histories. Confirm the exact HONOR model number and Samsung generation first; only then can you compare performance, support, price or value.
Why the model names need to be corrected
“Honor 8.4-inch tablet” is not a sufficiently precise product name. The official HONOR Pad 8 overview describes a 12-inch 2K tablet, so it cannot be treated as an 8.4-inch device. HONOR’s specification page lists the Pad 8 as using a Snapdragon 680, Android S with MagicUI 6.1, 128 GB of storage and a 7,250 mAh typical battery. Those figures belong to the Pad 8 and must not be assigned to an unidentified smaller HONOR tablet.
“Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4” is also ambiguous. Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 in 2014, then documented a different Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020). A seller who writes only “Galaxy Tab 8.4” may be referring to either model, a regional variant or used stock. Their display technology, resolution, age and original software are not interchangeable.

The first buying decision is therefore an identification exercise, not a specification contest. Ask for the model code printed in Settings, on the rear label or on the original box. Do not rely on a listing title, a stock photograph or the screen size alone.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Identify the HONOR tablet
Check the model code, not just “HONOR tablet”
- Open Settings and look for About tablet, About device or a similarly named page.
- Record the complete model number, storage capacity and software build. A retailer’s shortened name is not enough to establish the hardware.
- Match that model number to an official HONOR page for the country where the tablet was sold. Regional names and specifications can differ.
- Verify the physical display size in the official specifications. An 8.4-inch claim should not be reconciled with the Pad 8’s documented 12-inch screen.
Do not use Pad 8 specifications as a substitute
The Pad 8 is a real HONOR product, but it is the wrong size for the headline. Its confirmed specifications are useful only if the device you are considering is actually identified as Pad 8. If a seller advertises an “8.4-inch Pad 8,” treat that as a listing error until the model code and official regional page prove otherwise.
Identify which Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 you are seeing
| Model | Documented launch or product context | Display | Original software or connectivity information |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Tab S 8.4 | Announced by Samsung in 2014; selected-market availability began in July 2014 | 8.4-inch, 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED | Android KitKat 4.4 at announcement |
| Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020) | Separate 2020 model documented by Samsung | 8.4-inch, 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT | Samsung’s product page describes a 4G LTE model |
The two models can look similar in a casual photograph, but the table shows why the generation matters. The Tab S has a much higher stated resolution and Super AMOLED panel, while the Tab A (2020) uses a lower-resolution WUXGA TFT panel. Their launch dates are six years apart, and the Tab S was originally announced with Android KitKat 4.4.
Use Samsung’s exact naming
Request one of the following in writing from a seller: “Galaxy Tab S 8.4” or “Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020).” If the answer is simply “Galaxy Tab 8.4,” ask for the model number from Settings > About tablet. Also ask whether the tablet is Wi-Fi-only or the 4G LTE version; the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 product page specifically describes a 2020 4G LTE model, but a listing may offer a different regional configuration.

What the screen difference means for your choice
Choose around size first
A 12-inch Pad 8 and an 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab serve different physical roles. The smaller Samsung models are easier to carry and hold one-handed, while the larger HONOR tablet provides a substantially bigger work and viewing area. Neither is automatically better: the right size depends on whether portability or workspace is the constraint.
Then compare panel and resolution
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4’s documented 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED display is not equivalent to the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020)’s 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT panel. Do not use the Tab S specification to describe the Tab A, and do not infer viewing quality, brightness or color performance beyond the stated panel type and resolution. The Pad 8 overview establishes “2K” and 12 inches but does not, in the cited material, establish a panel technology that can be compared directly with Samsung’s descriptions.

Software age and support must be checked separately
The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was announced in 2014 with Android KitKat 4.4. That date makes it a legacy product by 2026, but the available specifications do not establish its current security-patch status, app compatibility or update eligibility. The Galaxy Tab A 8.4 is a 2020 model, yet its current support status is likewise not established by the product description. Before buying either Samsung tablet, check Samsung’s support page for the exact model code and your country.

- Confirm the last available security update date for the exact model and region.
- Check whether the apps you need still support that Android release.
- Ask whether the bootloader, device-management policy or previous owner’s account will block setup.
- Install pending updates before judging responsiveness or battery behavior.
Connectivity and storage checks before payment
Cellular capability
Do not assume that every 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab accepts a SIM. Samsung’s product page describes the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 as a 2020 4G LTE model, but the exact regional variant still needs confirmation. Ask for the model code and verify the supported network bands with your carrier. If you only need Wi-Fi, a cellular premium may add cost without benefit.

Storage and expansion
The 128 GB figure is documented for the HONOR Pad 8. Comparable storage figures for the two Samsung models are not established in the cited material, so obtain them from the exact model page or the device’s settings. Ask whether the advertised capacity is total storage or free space after setup, and whether a memory card slot is present on that variant.
How to verify a marketplace listing step by step
- Request a settings photograph. It should show the full model number under About tablet, with personal account details hidden.
- Match the code to an official regional page. Confirm screen size, resolution, wireless capability and storage against that page.
- Check the software screen. Record the Android version, security-patch date and manufacturer interface version.
- Confirm physical condition. Ask for close photographs of the display, charging port, cameras and rear label. A cracked panel or worn port can outweigh a favorable specification.
- Test the battery in person when possible. Charge it, play a video for a sustained period and watch for abrupt percentage drops, heat or shutdowns. No standardized battery-life figure is established for this comparison.
- Test wireless and cellular functions. Connect to Wi-Fi, pair Bluetooth accessories and, for an LTE model, verify SIM recognition and mobile data with your carrier.
- Perform a factory reset in front of the buyer. Make sure setup does not request the previous owner’s account and that the seller removes any management lock.
- Keep the receipt and return terms. Used or old stock can have different warranty coverage from a current regional product.
Conditional buying guidance
If the device is really an HONOR Pad 8
You are considering a 12-inch tablet with the documented Snapdragon 680, 128 GB storage, Android S with MagicUI 6.1 and 7,250 mAh typical battery. Compare it with compact Samsung tablets only if you genuinely want a larger device; it is not an 8.4-inch rival. Confirm current local pricing, software support and availability before purchase because those facts are not established by the product specifications alone.
If it is the Galaxy Tab S 8.4
You are looking at a model announced in 2014, with an 8.4-inch 2560 × 1600 Super AMOLED display and Android KitKat 4.4 at launch. Treat any listing as legacy or used stock unless a seller proves otherwise. Verify current app compatibility, security support, battery condition and return protection before considering it for daily use.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If it is the Galaxy Tab A 8.4 (2020)
You are looking at a separate 2020 8.4-inch model with a 1920 × 1200 WUXGA TFT display; Samsung describes a 4G LTE version. Confirm the exact regional variant, carrier compatibility, update status, storage and condition. Do not assume its specifications or software match the older Tab S.
If the seller cannot identify the model
Do not buy on the strength of the phrase “8.4-inch Galaxy Tab” or “HONOR 8.4 tablet.” An unidentified model prevents meaningful checks of performance, updates, network bands, accessories and resale value. Ask the seller to provide the model code or choose a listing with verifiable documentation.
Questions to answer before comparing price
- What is the complete manufacturer model number?
- Which country and carrier was the tablet originally sold for?
- Is it new, refurbished, open-box or used, and what warranty applies?
- What Android version and security-patch date are installed now?
- Has the battery, screen or charging port been replaced?
- Does the tablet include the correct charger, and does it charge reliably?
- Are there account, enterprise-management or activation locks?
- Can the buyer return it if the model code or cellular capability differs from the listing?
A practical decision tree
- Need a genuinely compact 8.4-inch tablet? Exclude the 12-inch Pad 8 and identify whether the Samsung is the Tab S 8.4 or Tab A 8.4 (2020).
- Need the largest workspace? Consider the Pad 8 only after confirming that the 12-inch size suits your case and that its regional software and support meet your needs.
- Considering a very low-priced Tab S 8.4? Treat the 2014 launch date as a warning to investigate battery, updates, app compatibility and return rights rather than assuming the display specification makes it a good value.
- Need mobile data? Confirm the exact LTE model and carrier bands; screen size alone does not establish cellular support.
- Still cannot establish the model? Stop the comparison and request documentation. A precise model identity is a prerequisite for a defensible recommendation.
Bottom line
The headline currently joins unlike products. HONOR’s documented Pad 8 is a 12-inch tablet, not an 8.4-inch model, and Samsung has at least two relevant 8.4-inch generations: the 2014 Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the 2020 Galaxy Tab A 8.4. Identify the exact HONOR model and Samsung model code, then compare current support, local availability, price, condition, connectivity and your required screen size. Until those identities are confirmed, choosing a winner would be guesswork.
