The HiDock P1 is a compact recorder built around transcription rather than traditional file management. Its BlueCatch system records both sides of calls through paired Bluetooth earphones, while Room and Whisper modes cover in-person meetings and short dictation. In hands-on testing, it captured Google Meet and Microsoft Teams audio without a meeting bot and produced useful speaker-separated summaries. The main compromise is the HiNotes software: direct access to recordings is restricted, Whisper captures cannot be exported in bulk as MP3 files, and scrubbing audio on the device is awkward.
That makes the P1 a strong fit for people who want searchable notes and summaries with minimal setup, but a poor choice if you need unrestricted ownership of every raw recording.
What the HiDock P1 does
The HiDock P1 is a portable, transcription-first voice recorder. HiDock lists three operating modes:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Call Mode: BlueCatch captures two-way audio from a computer call through the microphone and speaker in paired Bluetooth earphones.
- Room Mode: The built-in microphones record conversations in a physical space.
- Whisper Mode: Push-to-talk dictation for quick notes and ideas.
The intended workflow is to record first and use the HiNotes app to associate the device, transcribe audio, identify speakers, and generate summaries. HiDock advertises lifetime-free transcription in 75 languages. It also sells optional Pro capabilities, including speaker identification, templates, and live transcription; those tiers are vendor claims and may change.

How each recording mode works
Call Mode and BlueCatch
BlueCatch is the P1’s differentiator. Instead of joining a meeting as a software participant, it records the audio that your paired Bluetooth earphones send and receive. The earphones’ speaker carries the other participants’ voices; their microphone carries yours. The recorder captures both paths, so the meeting does not display a bot or recording participant.
Notebookcheck’s testing found BlueCatch capable of recording Google Meet and Microsoft Teams meetings. This approach is useful when company policies or meeting hosts do not permit third-party bots, but it depends on having compatible Bluetooth earphones and routing the call through them. If a call uses the computer’s speakers or microphone instead, BlueCatch cannot capture that audio path as designed.
Room Mode
Room Mode uses the two built-in ECM microphones. It is the appropriate setting for interviews, conference-room discussions, lectures, and face-to-face meetings. The hands-on review found it worked well in physical spaces, and HiNotes generally separated speakers coherently, with the minor transcription errors expected from speech-recognition systems.

Whisper Mode
Whisper Mode is push-to-talk dictation rather than an always-listening recorder. It suits a quick idea, reminder, or voice memo. The trade-off is file handling: Notebookcheck reports that Whisper captures cannot be exported in bulk as MP3 files, which can make a large collection difficult to archive outside HiNotes.
What setup involves
- Charge the recorder. A 10-minute charge is reported to provide about one hour of recording. A full charge takes roughly 40–50 minutes.
- Install and open HiNotes. Use the app to associate the P1 with your account and manage recordings.
- Pair Bluetooth earphones for calls. Configure BlueCatch inside HiNotes. After the first pairing, the earphones can reconnect automatically or you can use the BlueCatch button.
- Select the mode before recording. Choose Call for an earphone-routed computer call, Room for nearby speakers, or Whisper for push-to-talk dictation.
- Record and sync. Stop the recording, then let HiNotes import it. Transcription and summaries are created in the software rather than on the recorder itself.
- Review the result. Check speaker labels, names, and important numbers against the audio before sharing a summary.
The key setup dependency is the Bluetooth route. BlueCatch is not a universal microphone tap; it is designed around paired earphones carrying the call.
Transcription, summaries, and speaker identification
The P1’s value comes from what happens after recording. HiNotes can transcribe recordings and produce AI-generated meeting summaries. In the hands-on review, speaker identification produced coherent summaries for in-person meetings, although minor recognition errors remained. That is a practical result for minutes and follow-up lists, not a guarantee of verbatim accuracy.

Where accuracy is most likely to drop
- Several people speaking at once or interrupting each other.
- Low-volume speakers positioned far from the recorder in Room Mode.
- Specialist names, acronyms, figures, and mixed-language conversations.
- Bluetooth routing mistakes that leave one side of a call out of the recording.
For consequential notes, listen to the source audio while checking names, dates, prices, measurements, and action owners. Treat a generated summary as an editable draft.
Call recording with Google Meet and Teams
Hands-on testing reported successful BlueCatch capture of Google Meet and Teams calls without adding a bot to the meeting. The practical sequence is:
- Connect your Bluetooth earphones to the computer and confirm that both their microphone and speakers are selected for the call.
- Open HiNotes and confirm that the P1 and earphones are paired for BlueCatch.
- Start Call Mode on the P1 before or as the meeting begins.
- Speak and ask another participant to confirm that both sides are audible in a short test.
- Stop the recording after the meeting and sync it to HiNotes for transcription.
If the remote side is missing, check the computer’s output device first. If your own voice is missing, check the earphones’ input device. Recording the computer’s native screen or system audio and uploading it to HiNotes can be easier in some workflows, according to the review, especially when Bluetooth routing is unreliable.

HiDock rates continuous Room Mode recording at up to eight hours. That is a manufacturer rating for Room Mode, not a universal runtime for every mode; Bluetooth call capture, reconnections, and app syncing can change endurance. The 600 mAh battery reaches about one hour of recording time after a reported 10-minute charge, while a full charge takes approximately 40–50 minutes.

Notebookcheck lists 64 GB of local storage. That capacity gives the recorder room for extended use, but storage does not remove the need to sync: the most important management actions, including transcription and summarization, happen in HiNotes.
Raw-audio access and software lock-in
The largest limitation is file control. Notebookcheck reports restricted direct access to raw recordings, no bulk MP3 export for Whisper captures, and cumbersome on-device scrubbing. If your workflow requires handing an original file to a client, importing every recording into another editor, or maintaining an independent archive, test that path before committing.
A safer operating routine is to sync recordings to HiNotes promptly, label projects consistently, and preserve important source audio as soon as the software exposes an individual download or share action. Do not assume that a 64 GB recorder automatically provides a convenient desktop file system.
HiDock P1 strengths and weaknesses
| Area | What the P1 does well | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth calls | Captures both sides through paired earphones; tested with Google Meet and Teams without a meeting bot. | Requires correct Bluetooth input/output routing and compatible earphones. |
| Room recording | Dual ECM microphones worked well in physical spaces. | Distance, overlap, and room noise still affect recognition. |
| Transcription | HiNotes creates transcripts and on-demand summaries; speaker separation was coherent in testing. | Minor errors remain; verify names, numbers, and actions. |
| Battery | Up to eight hours of continuous Room Mode recording is the stated rating; fast top-ups are useful. | The rating is mode-specific and from the manufacturer. |
| Portability | 72 g aluminum body, magnetic back, USB-C, and 126 mm length. | Small hardware does not guarantee easy file export. |
| File ownership | Local storage holds recordings for syncing. | Restricted raw-file access, no bulk MP3 export for Whisper, and awkward scrubbing. |
| AI features | Lifetime-free transcription is advertised for 75 languages. | Pro features such as speaker identification, templates, and live transcription may require a paid tier. |
Who should buy the P1
It makes sense for
- Professionals who want meeting summaries without inviting a bot into a call.
- Interviewers and students who value automatic transcripts over manual file editing.
- People who alternate between Bluetooth calls, room conversations, and quick dictation.
- Users comfortable managing recordings primarily in HiNotes.
Look elsewhere if
- You need unrestricted drag-and-drop access to every original audio file.
- You routinely batch-convert or bulk-export voice memos as MP3.
- You need guaranteed verbatim transcription for legal, medical, or financial records without human review.
- You do not use Bluetooth earphones for computer calls.
Price and availability
Notebookcheck lists Amazon availability and a $169 MSRP. The price displayed on the official product page can differ from that MSRP, so check the current listing, region, taxes, and any bundle contents before purchase. The evidence establishes availability and MSRP, not a permanent sale price or a recurring subscription amount for every Pro feature.

Privacy and recording responsibilities
Recording a call or meeting can require consent under local law, workplace policy, or the rules of the service being used. Tell participants when appropriate, obtain required permission, and protect transcripts as carefully as the audio. A bot-free recording method avoids adding a visible meeting participant, but it does not remove your legal or organizational obligations.
Verdict
The HiDock P1 succeeds when the desired outcome is a usable transcript and summary, not a perfectly open audio archive. BlueCatch is genuinely useful for Google Meet and Teams calls routed through Bluetooth earphones, Room Mode handles physical meetings well, and the compact hardware is easy to carry. HiNotes speaker separation and summaries can turn a long recording into workable notes.
Its decisive weakness is software dependence. Restricted raw-file access, the lack of bulk MP3 export for Whisper recordings, and awkward scrubbing matter to anyone who archives or edits audio independently. Choose the P1 for transcription-centered convenience; choose a more traditional recorder if unrestricted file ownership is the priority.
