Short answer: AWS Lightsail is the easier documented starting point if you want a VPS in Mumbai and bundled monthly pricing; Hetzner Cloud’s documented Singapore location is another regional candidate, but its current Singapore price and traffic terms need checking before you can compare total cost. Neither location proves a more reliable route to YouTube. Test the stream from the Indian network you will actually use and check YouTube’s live health data.
What matters most for a nonstop stream
The choice is not just “Mumbai or Singapore.” For a 24/7 stream, compare the region, the plan’s total transfer cost, whether the instance can sustain your encoding workload, and how the actual connection behaves over time. Provider location names alone cannot establish latency, YouTube ingest quality, or stability.
- Region: Lightsail documents a Mumbai region. Hetzner’s documented locations include Singapore, but not India. These are candidates to test, not a performance ranking. Hetzner Cloud locations; Lightsail pricing and regions.
- Transfer billing: Lightsail bundles an allowance with its monthly plan; Mumbai receives half the standard listed allowance. Hetzner’s cited location information does not establish the current traffic allowance or overage for a specific Singapore plan.
- Encoder capacity: Your chosen VPS must keep up with the encoder or relay workload, with sufficient CPU and memory headroom. Neither provider’s region listing demonstrates that a particular instance can do so.
- Real stability: Measure disconnects, dropped frames, and reconnect behavior with a sustained stream to YouTube from the intended setup.
How the two providers compare
| Decision point | Hetzner Cloud | AWS Lightsail | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nearby documented region | Singapore is listed; India is not listed on the cited locations page. | Mumbai is documented. | Test the actual route to YouTube ingest; proximity alone does not prove better performance. |
| Price structure | The cited location documentation says servers continue to be billed when powered off. It does not establish the current price of a matching Singapore server. | Monthly bundles include compute, storage, and transfer allowance. | Compare current plans with enough CPU and memory in the region you plan to use. |
| Transfer allowance and excess | Exact current included traffic and overage for a selected Singapore plan are not established by the cited material. | Mumbai allowance is half the standard displayed allowance. Inbound and outbound traffic count toward the allowance; only excess outbound traffic is charged. India’s documented overage rate is $0.13 USD/GB. | Estimate stream volume and verify the live terms for your selected plan before subscribing. |
| Streaming reliability | No India-to-YouTube performance test is established for a selected plan or region. | No India-to-YouTube performance test is established for a selected plan or region. | Run a sustained test and inspect YouTube Live Control Room health rather than inferring reliability from region. |
Lightsail’s pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists a Linux/Unix public IPv4 entry bundle at $5 USD/month with 0.5 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 20 GB SSD, and 1 TB of listed transfer before the Mumbai reduction. It also lists a $24 USD/month bundle with 4 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB listed transfer before that reduction. These are listed bundle specifications, not a recommendation that either size is adequate for every encoding workflow; check the current page and Mumbai allowance when choosing.
AWS’s Lightsail data-transfer documentation, accessed in 2026, lists India’s instance outbound overage at $0.13 USD/GB. Confirm the current rate and rules for the specific region and plan before purchase. AWS Lightsail data transfer documentation.

Estimate transfer for a 24/7 stream
Estimate the encoder’s outgoing stream volume from its total video-plus-audio bitrate and the time it runs. Do not multiply VPS upload by the number of viewers: the server sends the live feed to YouTube for ingest; YouTube distributes it to the audience.
- Convert the total bitrate from megabits per second to bits per second.
- Multiply by the number of seconds streamed, then divide by 8 to convert bits to bytes.
- Convert bytes to decimal gigabytes for an approximate volume, then compare that with the provider’s allowance and counting rules.
At 10 Mbps, video alone uses approximately 108 GB in a 24-hour day, or about 3.24 TB over 30 uninterrupted days, using decimal units. This is arithmetic from the bitrate, before protocol overhead and any additional traffic; audio adds to the total. Lightsail counts both inbound and outbound against its allowance but charges only excess outbound traffic. Hetzner’s exact applicable allowance and overage need to be checked for the chosen plan.

Set YouTube encoder settings before comparing stability
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the resolution, frame rate, codec, and connection you intend to run. YouTube recommends RTMPS, describing it as “a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” For H.264 at 1080p/30 fps, YouTube recommends a 10 Mbps bitrate; it recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency, with a stated maximum of 4 seconds. These figures are platform guidance, not a guarantee of a stable stream on either VPS. YouTube encoder settings.
- Use the correct YouTube stream key and keep it private. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Leave CPU headroom if encoding in software; monitor memory and CPU during the test rather than assuming a plan’s vCPU count guarantees capacity.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for stream health, dropped frames, and ingest interruptions while the feed is running.
- Plan for restart and reconnect behavior. A VPS that can run an encoder is not, by itself, proof of uninterrupted YouTube ingest.
Run a meaningful test from India
- Choose the actual route. Test from the Indian ISP and control setup you expect to use, with a VPS in Mumbai or Singapore. If you will start or manage the stream from a home connection, include that connection in the test design.
- Use your intended production settings. Stream the real resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio configuration so the test reflects the planned workload.
- Keep it running long enough to expose interruptions. A brief successful start does not answer whether a 24/7 feed will disconnect, drop frames, or recover reliably. There is no universal test duration that proves future uptime.
- Record observable results. Note disconnects, dropped frames, CPU and memory pressure, and how the encoder behaves after a network or ingest interruption.
- Check YouTube’s health view and repeat if needed. Compare results across candidate regions under comparable settings. A single short run is not a matched benchmark.
Which should you choose?
Start with Lightsail if Mumbai placement and bundled billing are priorities
Lightsail is the more straightforward documented starting point when you specifically want a Mumbai region and a monthly bundle with listed compute, storage, and transfer. Account for the fact that Mumbai’s listed allowance is halved, and estimate whether your bitrate and uptime could put outbound usage over the allowance.

Consider Hetzner if Singapore suits your test and its plan terms work
Hetzner’s documented Singapore location makes it a plausible regional candidate, but the cited location information does not settle a matching server’s current price, traffic allowance, or overage. Get the current terms for the exact Singapore plan and compare its full cost with Lightsail before deciding.
Do not name a winner before testing
The available provider information does not establish which service gives a more stable end-to-end YouTube stream from India. Choose based on your tested route, observed stream health, instance headroom, and verified total cost—not an assumed latency advantage.

Costs and operating checks before launch
- Compare plans with enough CPU and memory for your selected encoder, not just the lowest advertised monthly price.
- Include transfer overage in the monthly estimate. Recheck current regional terms because provider pricing and allowances can change.
- Hetzner says servers continue to be billed when powered off, so stopping a server is not necessarily a way to avoid its server charges. Confirm the billing terms for the service you select.
- Protect the YouTube stream key, monitor the stream, and decide how the encoder or relay will restart after a failure.
- Review YouTube copyright rules for every video and audio track you stream. A technically stable live feed does not establish that you have rights to rebroadcast the content or that it complies with YouTube policies.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded videos looping on a YouTube channel without maintaining your own VPS encoder, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works as well as cards. StreamNeo streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast from a camera. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
