Nintendo’s broader retro-game plans offer context, but they are not confirmation of this headline.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The sources available for this story do not confirm that Nintendo has announced a new game in the Classic NES Series for Switch 2. Nintendo Life’s Classic NES Series index is a catalog page, not evidence of a new release: All Classic NES Series Games.

Nintendo’s retro-game context
In a July 5, 2026 report, Nintendo Life described remarks by Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa about giving players ways to experience the company’s past games. The report lists NES, Super NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo 64 games available through Nintendo Switch Online, and says GameCube software is playable on Switch 2. This describes Nintendo’s existing retro-game approach; it does not announce a new Classic NES Series title.

As quoted in that secondary report, Furukawa said: “We believe that being able to play these games provides a sense of nostalgia for consumers who played them in the past, while also giving new consumers an opportunity to become familiar with Nintendo’s game series and characters. Taking technical challenges and other factors into account, we would like to continue exploring a variety of possibilities going forward.” The quotation is attributed to Furukawa as reported by Nintendo Life, not independently verified here against a transcript. What a confirmed announcement would need to clarify
Until Nintendo or a reliable report identifies a specific game, the practical details readers would need remain unanswered:
Rank #2
- Blast off on a high-octane adventure to save a star system from invasion
- Tear through space, soar across planets, and shoot loads of foes out of the sky at every step of the way
- A cinematic take on the Star Fox 64 story, featuring fully voiced dialogue, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and a complete visual overhaul for the Nintendo Switch 2 system
- Enter first-person mode to experience the action from inside the cockpit, and even use mouse controls to fly
- Invite a second player* to join you as a gunner using Nintendo Switch 2 mouse controls
- Identity: the game’s title and whether it is new software or a re-release.
- Compatibility: whether it runs on Switch 2, older Switch hardware, or both, and whether it is exclusive to one system.
- Availability: its release timing, regions, and digital or physical distribution.
- Cost: any confirmed price and the purchasing or subscription method.
Do not treat a general mention of retro games or a catalog entry as proof of any of these specifics.

Nintendo Life also reported that the Nintendo Museum had welcomed more than 800,000 visitors since opening in October 2024. That is a secondary-source attendance figure about the museum, not evidence for a Switch 2 game announcement.
