ProCamera has the edge if you want the widest documented choice of exposure modes and a detailed photo-and-video workflow. Halide is the stronger feature match if you value gesture-led controls and its explicitly documented focus peaking and focus loupe. Both apps offer core manual exposure, focus, and white-balance controls; neither can be called universally easier or better on the available feature descriptions alone.

How ProCamera handles manual exposure
Choose how much to control
ProCamera documents three operating modes: Auto, Semi-Auto, and full Manual. Its priority mode lets you set a preferred shutter speed or ISO while the app handles the rest, according to the developer’s feature page. That makes it the more clearly documented fit if you want to move between letting the app manage exposure and taking over specific exposure decisions.
Set focus, white balance, and video controls
The same feature page describes manual focus and controls for exposure time, ISO, white-balance temperature, and tint. It also lists gray-card calibration and describes manual focus, exposure, and white balance for video. Those named controls make ProCamera’s documented workflow broad, although the available descriptions do not establish how either app feels in actual use.

Halide’s product page describes manual shutter speed, ISO, and white-balance controls alongside gesture-based exposure and focus adjustments. Its approach is presented as a gesture-led camera interface, rather than as a list of selectable exposure modes comparable to ProCamera’s.

Use focus assistance when precision matters
Halide specifically documents focus peaking and a focus loupe in addition to manual focus. These tools can be relevant when you want help judging sharpness while focusing. This is a feature distinction, not evidence that Halide focuses more accurately or is easier to learn.
Which app fits your priorities?
- Choose ProCamera for exposure-mode choice: its documented Auto, Semi-Auto, full Manual, and shutter- or ISO-priority operation give you more explicitly described ways to set how much the app manages.
- Choose ProCamera for a documented photo-and-video workflow: the cited official materials enumerate formats, video controls, and additional capture options. Check which functions work on your iPhone and whether they require ProCamera Up.
- Choose Halide for the named focus aids: its documented focus loupe and focus peaking may suit a workflow where seeing focus clearly is a priority.
- For one setting, compare that setting rather than the overall feature count: both apps document manual shutter/exposure, ISO, focus, and white balance. Check the current interface and device support for the specific control you need.
Check iPhone compatibility and paid features
Confirm device-specific functions
ProCamera’s U.S. App Store listing, accessed October 4, 2026, says 48 MP photos are supported on iPhone 14 Pro and later, and Camera Control Button support is available on iPhone 16 and later. These are listing claims for the named device generations, not a guarantee that every advertised control works on every iPhone. The developer’s feature site included release posts for versions 26.3 and 27.0 in September 2026; the version 27.0 post discusses variable-aperture control on iPhone 18 Pro. Halide’s official page advertises a one-week free trial at signup. ProCamera is listed as available by subscription after a free trial, while its developer describes ProCamera Up as an optional upgrade and identifies features such as custom camera presets and RAW exposure bracketing as premium features. The reviewed sources do not establish comparable current prices or complete terms across regions. Check the terms and included features shown in your local store before subscribing or upgrading.
