Halcyon announced a $40 million Series B on December 19, 2023, led by Bain Capital Ventures. The company said the funding would expand its engineering, research and development, and sales teams. Its platform combines ransomware prevention and detection with tools intended to protect endpoints and help organizations recover, according to Halcyon’s product descriptions.
What Halcyon announced in 2023
Halcyon said its Series B brought in $40 million, with Bain Capital Ventures leading the round. The announcement came after a $50 million Series A announced earlier in 2023; Halcyon reported that the two rounds brought its funding raised during the year to $90 million. The company said it planned to use the Series B proceeds to expand engineering, research and development, and sales. Halcyon’s Series B announcement sets out those terms and plans.
The financing was part of a wider effort to position the product as ransomware-specific security software. In the announcement, CEO and co-founder Jon Miller argued that adapting general endpoint products for ransomware leaves organizations without purpose-built tools. That is Halcyon’s rationale for its approach, not an independent assessment of competing products.
What Halcyon’s anti-ransomware platform does
Halcyon describes its platform as enterprise security software with multiple layers for prevention, detection, response, and recovery. The capabilities below are vendor descriptions; they should not be read as independently verified performance results.

Prevention and behavior detection
Halcyon says its software can block ransomware before execution and detect suspicious behavior. Its later technical datasheet also describes controls intended to prevent data exfiltration. These features are meant to address both encryption attacks and the theft of data used for extortion. Halcyon’s technical datasheet describes these platform functions.
Endpoint protection and response
The company says the endpoint agent is hardened against attempts to bypass or unhook it, and that the platform can autonomously isolate a host. In principle, isolation can limit an infected machine’s ability to communicate with other systems while responders investigate. The available product descriptions do not establish how these controls perform across different environments or configurations.

Key capture and recovery
Halcyon describes capturing encryption-key material and automating recovery or decryption. The goal is to give organizations a recovery path if prevention fails. The company’s materials do not, by themselves, establish recovery speed, success rates, or whether a particular incident or encrypted system can be restored.
How the funding and product timeline changed
| Date | Company announcement | Reported amount or detail |
|---|---|---|
| April 20, 2023 | Series A | $50 million, according to Halcyon’s Series A announcement. |
| December 19, 2023 | Series B led by Bain Capital Ventures | $40 million; Halcyon said it had raised $90 million in 2023. Series B announcement. |
| November 25, 2024 | Series C led by Evolution Equity Partners | $100 million; Halcyon reported $190 million in cumulative funding and a $1 billion valuation at that time. Series C announcement. |
| July 28, 2026 | Newsroom listing for File Resilience, native macOS support, and deeper Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Sentinel integrations | The listing establishes later product activity, but does not provide enough detail to assess capabilities or deployment conditions. Halcyon newsroom. |
The $1 billion valuation is the figure Halcyon reported alongside its November 2024 Series C; it is not a current valuation. Likewise, the $40 million Series B is a historical financing announcement, not the company’s latest round.

What the announcements do—and do not—establish
Funding announcements and product materials are useful for understanding what Halcyon says it is building and how it has financed that work. They do not establish comparative effectiveness, independent customer outcomes, pricing, or a ranking against other enterprise security platforms. No independent performance test or independently verified customer outcome is established by the sources cited here.
Halcyon’s 2024 Series C article also cited more than $1 billion in ransomware payments in 2023 and an average recovery cost of $4.45 million. Those are figures reported by Halcyon in that article, rather than measures of Halcyon’s product performance; the underlying source for the recovery-cost figure is not established here. The Series C article provides the company’s context for those statistics.
