Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Digital pre-loading starts at local midnight on November 12. The physical Standard Edition is a download-code package with no disc, and Rockstar and Take-Two have not confirmed a PC release or GTA VI Online mode. This guide explains the announced editions, upgrade path, bonuses, platform differences and what you can safely plan for launch.
GTA 6 launch date and confirmed platforms
Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms. Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 announcement uses the same date and platform list. The announcement describes the game as a single-player experience set in Leonida, including Vice City and the surrounding state.

No official launch listing currently includes PC, Nintendo hardware or a cloud-gaming platform. Reports about additional versions should be treated as unconfirmed until Rockstar or Take-Two publishes a platform announcement. A later PC version is possible in the broad sense that release plans can change, but it is not a product you can pre-order or schedule from the current information.

When can you preload GTA 6?
Digital pre-load time
Pre-loading begins at local midnight on November 12, 2026. “Local midnight” means the date changes according to the region configured by the relevant PlayStation or Xbox storefront, rather than one worldwide UTC release time. The game will not become playable when the download starts; launch access remains tied to November 19.

How to start a digital pre-load
- Buy or pre-order the Standard or Ultimate Edition through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store on the console account that will play it.
- Make sure the console is online, has automatic downloads enabled and has enough free storage for the installation and any day-one update.
- At or after local midnight on November 12, open your game library or order page and select Download or Pre-load.
- Leave the console connected to power and the internet. Rest mode or the Xbox equivalent can complete the download if background downloads are enabled.
- On November 19, install any required update and start the game after the platform’s release entitlement becomes active.
The announced materials do not state the download size, required free space, preload end time or the exact launch-hour unlock. Do not clear a particular number of gigabytes based on social-media estimates; check the console’s own product page when the download becomes available.
Does the physical GTA 6 copy include a disc?
No. The physical Standard Edition is a code-in-box product. Rockstar Support says the box contains a download code and explicitly says, “A disc will not be included in the box.” Take-Two’s announcement describes the same format.
Physical copies are scheduled to be available for shipping or pickup from November 12 so that buyers can redeem the code and join the preload. The code enables the same November 12 download as a digital purchase; the box is packaging for the entitlement, not offline installation media.

- Buy the physical Standard Edition for the correct console family: PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.
- Open the box and reveal the printed code. Do not share a photograph of it; a code can generally be redeemed only once.
- On PlayStation, open the PlayStation Store, choose your account menu, select Redeem Code, enter the code and confirm. On Xbox, open the Microsoft Store, select the account menu, choose Redeem Code and enter the code.
- After successful redemption, find the game in your library and begin the preload when it unlocks on November 12.
Region rules you need to check
PlayStation codes must match the region associated with the PlayStation account. An imported PlayStation box can therefore be unusable on an account registered elsewhere. Rockstar Support says Xbox codes are not region-locked, but local store, tax, language and refund rules can still affect an imported purchase. Confirm the seller’s region and console version before paying.

The two announced U.S. prices are not worldwide price guarantees. Storefront currency conversion, taxes, regional pricing and retailer policies can change the amount you see. The $79.99 and $99.99 figures are Take-Two’s announced U.S. prices, not recurring subscriptions.

Rockstar’s Ultimate listing includes the base game and a collection of story-linked vehicles, weapons, cosmetics, properties and customisation locations. The listed items are:

Rockstar says the bonuses are threaded across Jason and Lucia’s story. The announcement does not establish that these items provide competitive online advantages, because no GTA VI online mode has been announced.
Can you upgrade Standard to Ultimate?
Yes. After redeeming a Standard code, a Standard owner can buy the digital Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront. There is no physical Ultimate package announced. If you want a boxed purchase, buy physical Standard and add the upgrade digitally; if you want all content immediately, buy Ultimate digitally.

Pre-order bonuses and the November 20 cutoff
Eligible purchases and pre-orders made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. The pack contains a ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits, hairstyles and an exclusive weapon pattern.
Digital pre-orders also include one month of GTA+. PlayStation says pre-ordering any edition on PlayStation Store provides a redeemable free month. Rockstar’s support wording covers digital pre-orders and purchases of either edition made before November 20, while retailer and regional terms can differ. Check the exact offer text on the storefront where you buy, especially for a physical code sold by an independent retailer.
The cutoff is not the launch date: a qualifying purchase made on November 19 is within the stated window, while a purchase on or after November 20 may not receive the pack or the digital GTA+ month. Keep the receipt and redemption details if a bonus does not appear immediately.

PlayStation marketing executive Mary Yee says the PS5 version uses the DualSense controller’s haptics and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D AudioTech and its ultra-high-speed SSD. That describes supported hardware features, not a promise of a particular resolution or frame-rate mode. No equivalent Xbox performance targets are stated in the current announcement, so do not assume a 60-frames-per-second mode, resolution, smart-delivery behavior or cross-save feature without a platform-specific specification.

Is GTA 6 Online available at launch?
There is no official confirmation of GTA VI Online, a multiplayer mode, an online launch date or a required console subscription for this game. Take-Two’s announcement calls GTA VI a “single-player experience.” Rockstar’s current product and support pages reviewed for the launch discuss the story game but do not announce an online component.
Take-Two references GTA Online as an existing service available through GTA+ and the GTA+ Games Library. That reference is about the existing service and does not confirm a GTA VI Online mode. Treat videos, leaks and retailer copy that promise multiplayer at launch as unverified until Rockstar publishes details.
What this means when you buy
- You can purchase GTA VI for the announced single-player release without assuming an online mode is included.
- Do not buy a console subscription solely on the expectation that GTA VI Online will require it; no requirement has been announced.
- GTA+ benefits mentioned with digital pre-orders are a one-month promotional entitlement, not proof of a GTA VI multiplayer service.
Common preload and redemption problems
The preload button is missing on November 12
- Check the console’s account region and the local date/time; the window is local midnight, not necessarily midnight in another country.
- Open the order’s product page rather than relying only on a home-screen shortcut.
- Confirm that payment completed and that a physical code was redeemed successfully.
- Restart the store app or console, then check for library updates.
- Leave room for the installation and any update; the final storage requirement is not yet stated.
A PlayStation code says it is invalid
First verify that the box’s region matches the PlayStation account. A code bought for another market may be valid but incompatible with that account. Contact the retailer before attempting repeated guesses, and keep the receipt and packaging.

That is expected for the announced physical Standard Edition. The printed code is the license used to download the game. If the code is missing, damaged or already redeemed, stop and contact the seller with proof of purchase instead of discarding the box.
An Ultimate bonus is not visible
Confirm whether you bought Standard, Ultimate or only the upgrade, then check the account that redeemed the entitlement. Story-linked items may unlock through progression rather than appearing as a separate downloadable file. Keep the order confirmation and consult official support if the entitlement remains absent after launch.
What to decide before ordering
- Choose the console: the announced launch is PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. There is no confirmed PC, Nintendo or cloud version to plan around.
- Choose the format: digital is simplest for immediate preload; physical Standard gives you a box but still requires a full download and code redemption.
- Choose the edition: Standard is the lower-priced U.S. option; Ultimate bundles the listed story bonuses. Standard can be upgraded digitally later.
- Check the region: match a PlayStation code to the account region. Xbox codes are described as non-region-locked, but verify local store terms.
- Check the bonus deadline: qualifying purchases before November 20 may include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and eligible digital purchases may include one month of GTA+.
- Prepare for November 12: keep the console online, enable automatic downloads and wait for the store’s own storage requirement rather than relying on unofficial numbers.
Story context for the launch
Rockstar’s synopsis places Jason and Lucia in Vice City and across Leonida. It says they have always known the deck is stacked against them; after an easy score goes wrong, they end up in a conspiracy spanning the state and must rely on each other to survive. This is the confirmed narrative framing for the launch campaign, while details about post-launch content and online play remain unannounced.
