What was added in Version 1.0?
The headline addition is Story Creator, which lets players write their own story scripts and bring those adventures into Caldria. Version 1.0 also introduces a new pet cat.
Story Creator
Story Creator extends the game beyond its authored campaign by allowing players to create custom narrative content. The feature is designed for players who want to shape their own scenes and adventures rather than only follow the built-in storyline.

New pet cat
A new cat joins the game’s cast of possible companions and pets in the 1.0 release. The announcement presents it as a separate addition alongside Story Creator.
Other launch features
The launch materials also highlight three difficulty levels, customizable inputs and a built-in voice studio. Players can record dialogue for characters or villains, which pairs naturally with user-created scripts. “Less-Grindy Tactical Combat” and accessibility-first controls are publisher descriptions, not independent performance findings.
What kind of game is Grifford Academy?
It is a story-rich coming-of-age RPG set in Caldria, a mystical book realm. Erika, Viva and Cap travel through a world of magic, monsters, teenage turmoil, secrets and sinister forces. Decisions influence character personalities and development, making dialogue and choices part of progression rather than decoration.

Exploration and choices
The campaign combines exploration with conversations and decision points. The central appeal is following the characters’ relationships and growth while seeing how choices affect their personalities and the direction of the adventure.
Turn-based combat and progression
Encounters use strategic turn-based combat. You manage squad equipment, level characters and adjust your approach to different threats. Story Mode provides a more relaxed experience, while Strategy Mode is aimed at players who want greater tactical challenge.
Modes and difficulty
- Story Mode: a lower-pressure option for emphasizing the narrative.
- Strategy Mode: a more demanding option for tactical play.
- Three difficulty levels: a publisher-stated way to tune challenge.
How much does Grifford Academy cost on Steam?
Steam’s live listing shows a standard price of $14.99 and a $13.49 introductory offer (10% off) that ends November 7, 2026. Prices can vary by region and may change after the offer expires. A launch press release cited US$19.95, so that figure should be treated as a dated or context-specific price rather than the current Steam checkout price.

Does it support controllers and which computers can run it?

Is Version 1.0 worth buying now?
It is a reasonable buy for players who want a narrative RPG with choice-driven character development, turn-based tactics and tools for creating their own stories. Story Creator and voice recording give the 1.0 release more replay and creator potential than a fixed campaign alone. The strongest caution is timing: the 28-review sample is still small, and the introductory price is temporary.

Why did the developers make the game?
LandShark Games founder Paul Naylor said the project began after he introduced Dungeons & Dragons to his children. He described seeing their excitement during whimsical adventures—including rescuing dragons and catching giant chickens—as the inspiration for bringing that experience into a video game. That origin helps explain the emphasis on imaginative settings, character-led choices and player-created stories.
