If you want to avoid hostile player encounters in Gray Zone Warfare, choose Joint Operations, the game’s PvE option. If you want the possibility of fighting players from opposing factions as well as AI enemies, choose Warfare, the PvEvP option. Both modes support solo play or squads of up to four.
What is the difference between PvE and PvP in Gray Zone Warfare?
The game’s official names are Joint Operations for PvE and Warfare for PvEvP. Warfare is not a pure PvP-only mode: AI enemies remain part of the combat, alongside possible encounters with opposing-faction players. MADFINGER Games describes these mode rules in its mode overview.

Can you avoid PvP?
Yes. In Joint Operations, you can focus on fighting AI without other players attacking or looting you. MADFINGER’s support page states: “In PvE mode, players cannot attack or loot each other and can only engage with AI enemies.” This is the clearest choice if hostile encounters with other players are a deal-breaker.
What are Conflict Zones in Warfare?
MADFINGER describes Conflict Zones as places where players from opposing factions can come into contact. Its Conflict Zones support page says they are 200 meters in diameter and active for five minutes by default; their duration can extend when another player joins. This description does not establish that every PvP interaction is limited to those zones, so do not treat them as a guarantee that player combat cannot happen elsewhere.

Does either mode require a particular edition?
The publisher’s April 2026 edition overview lists Standard, Tactical, Elite, and Supporter editions, with different in-game items and storage benefits. It says included items can be obtained in-game. The edition information does not establish that a higher edition is required to access Joint Operations or Warfare; it provides no basis for buying an upgrade just to choose between these modes.

MADFINGER says the game has focused on PvE since the beginning and describes expanding player choice and improving both PvEvP and PvE as design aims. That is the studio’s stated direction, not independent evidence that one mode is more polished or has more players. Its pinned developer FAQ says major updates bring global wipes roughly every six months, but it does not establish whether progress is shared or separate between modes. The available official information also does not establish current mode populations, regional queue times, or comparative difficulty.
As of October 4, 2026, the official Gray Zone Warfare website described Update 0.5: Rogue Ops as upcoming and announced Supporter access for October 19, 2026. That was a planned date, not confirmation that the update had released.
