For PC players, Forza Motorsport is the clear practical winner. It has a native Windows release on Steam, modern graphics and display options, active online features advertised by its publisher, and explicit support for DirectInput and force-feedback racing wheels. Gran Turismo Sport is not a PC game: PlayStation identifies it as a PlayStation 4-exclusive title, and its online services ended on January 31, 2024.
Gran Turismo Sport still has an offline PS4 experience, but it is not a current PC alternative. The meaningful choice for someone shopping for a Windows racing game is therefore whether Forza Motorsport fits their hardware, preferred driving style and multiplayer expectations—not which of these two can be installed natively on a computer.

If you want a racing simulator you can install, tune and play online on Windows, choose Forza Motorsport. Choose Gran Turismo Sport only if you already have a PS4 and specifically want its offline circuit-racing content.
Can you play Gran Turismo Sport on a PC?
Not as a supported native PC game. PlayStation describes Gran Turismo Sport as PlayStation 4-exclusive software. There is no Windows edition to download from Steam or another official PC storefront, and a PC wheel cannot turn the PS4 game into a computer title.

The distinction matters because a comparison page can make the two games look like competing PC products when they are not. Gran Turismo Sport can be discussed as an offline PS4 title, but it does not meet the basic requirement of a current Windows racing game: installation on a Windows computer with PC-specific graphics, display and input settings.
What remains playable on PS4
Gran Turismo’s service notice states that its online services ended on January 31, 2024, at 06:00 UTC. The same notice says the offline portions can still be played, including purchased add-ons. That leaves a usable single-player PS4 experience, but it excludes the online ecosystem that once formed a major part of the game’s appeal.
Do not interpret “offline portions remain playable” as a promise that every connected feature still works. It means the game’s offline content is available on compatible PS4 hardware; it does not restore online races, online rankings or other services that depended on the closed servers.

Forza Motorsport has a Windows release sold on Steam, with features designed around configurable PC hardware rather than one fixed console specification. The Steam listing also gives clear minimum and recommended requirements, so you can check your system before buying or downloading it.
PC graphics features
The Steam description lists real-time ray-traced global illumination on track, support for DLSS 2 and FSR 2.2, resolutions up to 4K, unlocked frame rates in single-player, ultrawide resolutions and a built-in benchmark mode. These options let you balance image quality and performance instead of accepting a single console-rendered presentation.

Ray-traced global illumination is a lighting feature, not a guarantee that every setting will run smoothly at 4K. Your graphics card, processor, memory and chosen quality settings determine the result. DLSS 2 and FSR 2.2 are separate upscaling options; which one is available or preferable depends on your GPU and your image-quality priorities.
Input and wheel support
Forza’s PC feature text says you can connect devices through the DirectInput API, remap layouts, use force feedback on wheels and use Xbox controller rumble. That is important for a sim-racing setup: a compatible wheel can communicate steering resistance and road or curb effects instead of behaving like a simple gamepad.

Support is not the same as a guarantee that every wheel behaves identically. Device firmware, Windows recognition, driver software, USB connections and in-game calibration still affect the result. Forza is the relevant game in this comparison if you are buying a force-feedback racing wheel for PC; Gran Turismo Sport’s PS4 exclusivity means that a PC wheel does not provide a supported way to run it.
Online multiplayer: a decisive difference
Gran Turismo Sport’s service is closed
The official service announcement gives a precise shutdown time: January 31, 2024, at 06:00 UTC. After that point, Gran Turismo Sport’s online services are no longer available. You can still access offline portions on PS4, including purchased add-ons, but you cannot choose the game for a current online league, ranked competition or regular online racing schedule.
Forza advertises an ongoing online ecosystem
Forza Motorsport’s Steam listing advertises online player-versus-player racing, cross-platform multiplayer and continuing updates. Those descriptions make it the viable choice for a PC player who wants organized online competition or to race with friends on different supported platforms.

“Continuing updates” describes the support model advertised in the listing, not a promise that any particular event, feature or server will remain available indefinitely. Online games can change their schedules and requirements. The practical difference today is that Forza offers an active online product on PC, while Gran Turismo Sport’s online service has already ended.
Cars and tracks: why the counts are not perfectly like-for-like
The publishers describe the two games using different units, so the headline numbers should not be treated as a laboratory comparison of identical content categories.

What Forza’s larger car list means
Steam describes Forza as containing more than 500 real-world cars, including modern race cars and more than 100 cars new to Forza Motorsport. That breadth gives a PC player a large garage to explore, from road cars to competition machinery. The listing also emphasizes upgraded physics, new damage and dirt accumulation systems, and photorealistic visuals.
Thirty tracks does not mean only thirty possible races. Multiple layouts change the length, corner sequence and overtaking opportunities, while dynamic weather and time of day can alter visibility and the conditions you manage during an event. Those systems add variation without requiring every layout to be a completely separate venue.
What Gran Turismo Sport’s figures tell you
Gran Turismo Sport’s official figure of 17 locations and more than 40 courses describes a smaller published set than Forza’s current car total and track listing. It does not prove that one game has better-designed circuits or that every player will prefer the larger catalog. It does establish that Forza presents the broader current content proposition on PC, while Gran Turismo Sport’s content is tied to an older PS4 release and offline access.

Physics and driving feel: what can be stated responsibly
Both titles are serious circuit racers rather than casual arcade games. Both ask you to manage braking, corner entry, throttle application, racing lines and vehicle setup. However, the available evidence does not include a controlled back-to-back handling test, so it cannot establish that one has objectively superior physics, realism or force feedback.
Documented Forza technology
Forza’s Steam description claims massively upgraded physics, powerful assists and a 48-times improvement in tire fidelity. It also mentions real-time ray tracing, damage and dirt accumulation. These are documented product features, but a feature description alone cannot tell you which game will feel better through a particular wheel, controller or display.
How to choose based on feel
Driving preference is personal. Players who want a broad modern PC feature set, adjustable assists, a large car roster and wheel support can make a practical case for Forza. Players who already enjoy Gran Turismo Sport’s handling and own a PS4 may prefer its offline driving experience. Neither preference changes the platform facts: Gran Turismo Sport is not a supported Windows title, and its online service is closed.

Interpreting the requirements
- The minimum specification is a threshold for running the game, not a promise of maximum settings, 4K resolution or a fixed frame rate.
- The recommended graphics cards are substantially more powerful and are the sensible target if you want to experiment with high settings, ray-traced lighting or high-resolution output.
- An SSD is required in both listings. A hard-disk installation does not meet the stated storage requirement.
- Eight gigabytes of RAM is the minimum; 16 GB is the recommended amount for a more comfortable modern PC configuration.
Use the benchmark mode after installation to evaluate your own combination of resolution, quality settings and frame-rate target. Because the game supports unlocked single-player frame rates and ultrawide resolutions, the best settings depend on your monitor and whether you prioritize clarity, smoothness or visual effects.

How to set up Forza Motorsport with a PC racing wheel
The game explicitly supports DirectInput and force feedback, but a reliable setup still requires a few checks. The exact names and locations of options can change between game updates, so use the current input or device settings shown by your build.
- Check the PC first. Confirm that Windows 10 version 19041 or newer is installed and that the computer meets at least the listed processor, memory, graphics and 130 GB SSD requirements.
- Connect the wheel directly. Plug the wheel and any pedal or shifter connections into the system, preferably before launching the game. Allow Windows to detect the device and install or activate the manufacturer’s current driver and firmware.
- Verify recognition. Check Windows’ game-controller or device panel and confirm that steering, pedals and buttons produce input. If the device is not visible there, Forza cannot configure it reliably.
- Launch the Steam version. Open Forza Motorsport and go to its controller, input or device configuration area. Select the detected wheel rather than assuming the game has switched from a gamepad automatically.
- Assign and remap controls. Map steering, throttle, brake, clutch if present, gear changes, handbrake and essential menu functions. DirectInput support and layout remapping allow you to adapt the controls to your hardware.
- Calibrate the range. Set steering range, pedal response and dead zones so that the on-screen input reaches full lock and full pedal travel without unwanted movement at center.
- Enable and tune force feedback. Turn on force feedback, then begin with moderate strength. Increase or reduce effects after testing a few corners; clipping or excessive vibration can hide useful detail rather than improve it.
- Run a short test. Drive in a low-pressure session, check that steering centers correctly, confirm that braking reaches full input and make sure the wheel does not disconnect under load.
A controller remains a valid option, especially if your PC is near the minimum specification or you prefer a simpler setup. Wheel support is a reason to choose Forza, not a requirement to enjoy every mode.
Common decision traps
“Both are racing games, so both must be PC options”
They are not. Gran Turismo Sport is PS4-exclusive, while Forza Motorsport has a Windows Steam release. Start with platform availability before comparing graphics, physics or car lists.

It does not. Offline portions and purchased add-ons remain playable, but the official online service ended at the stated January 31, 2024 deadline.
“More cars automatically means better physics”
Catalog size and handling quality are separate questions. Forza’s listing documents more than 500 cars and upgraded physics, but the evidence does not provide a controlled test that makes one title the objective physics winner.
“A powerful GPU guarantees 4K performance”
Forza supports output up to 4K, ray-traced lighting and modern upscalers, but performance depends on the complete system and selected settings. Use the benchmark mode and adjust resolution, quality, upscaling and ray tracing together.
Which game should you choose?
Choose Forza Motorsport if you play on Windows
- You need a game that installs natively on a PC.
- You want current online player-versus-player and cross-platform multiplayer features advertised by the Steam listing.
- You want a large car roster, dynamic weather and time of day, and multiple track layouts.
- You use an ultrawide monitor, target up to 4K, or want DLSS 2, FSR 2.2, ray-traced global illumination and unlocked single-player frame rates.
- You plan to use a DirectInput force-feedback wheel.
Choose Gran Turismo Sport only for a specific PS4 use case
- You already own compatible PS4 hardware.
- You specifically want its offline circuit-racing content.
- You accept that its online services ended on January 31, 2024, at 06:00 UTC.
For a new PC purchase, the choice is not close: Gran Turismo Sport cannot provide a supported Windows installation or current online multiplayer. Forza Motorsport is the available PC product, and its requirements and feature set are documented clearly enough to evaluate before you commit.
