Availability depends on the device model, Android TV OS version, memory, region and language. Google began the rollout in the U.S. and Canada in 2025, with more devices, countries and languages planned for 2026.
What Gemini for TV does
Google announced Gemini for TV on September 22, 2025. It is designed to handle more than short commands: you can ask for show recommendations, ask follow-up questions, brainstorm a trip or work through a complex homework question. Google’s examples include finding a movie that suits people with different tastes, recapping a previous season and identifying a show from a description. Existing Google Assistant functions continue to work. Google said in its launch announcement that more than 300 million Google TV and other Android TV OS devices were active.
Gemini can make TV discovery more conversational, but the announcement does not establish a response-speed or microphone-pickup performance guarantee.
Which devices are getting Gemini, and when?
Google’s September 2025 launch announcement named the TCL QM9K as the first device, with an initial rollout in the U.S. and Canada in English and French. It also named these devices for a later 2025 rollout:

On November 10, 2025, Google said Gemini was starting to roll out to Google TV Streamer over the following weeks. The Streamer supports conversational viewing searches and help with learning, DIY and recipes, including YouTube videos accessed using the remote’s microphone button. Google said more devices, countries and languages were planned for 2026; that plan does not by itself confirm availability on a particular model or in a particular location. See Google’s Gemini for TV announcement and its Google TV Streamer rollout update.
Do you need a new TV?
Not necessarily. Gemini is also rolling out to the Google TV Streamer, so owners of an existing television may be able to use it through that device rather than replace the TV. Google’s November 2025 announcement confirms the rollout, but buyers should check the Streamer’s current Gemini availability in their region before purchasing.

For a built-in TV installation, eligibility is model-specific. Google TV Help says Gemini for TV requires a Google TV device running Android TV OS 14 or higher with at least 2 GB of RAM, in a supported region and language. Meeting those baseline requirements does not guarantee a rollout to every model: manufacturers and rollout timing also matter. Check the exact model with Google or the manufacturer rather than assuming that any television labeled “Google TV” supports Gemini.
Does Google TV have a microphone?
Some compatible products have hands-free microphones; others rely on a microphone button on the remote. Depending on the product design, the microphone may be built into the television, remote or streaming device. Google does not describe this as a universal hardware upgrade for all Google TV products.

Google’s Gemini for TV microphone and voice-control help explains the available controls.
How to check eligibility and manage Gemini
- Confirm that your device runs Android TV OS 14 or higher and has at least 2 GB of RAM. Check the device settings or manufacturer specifications.
- Check that Gemini for TV is available for your country, language and specific model. The rollout is not universal.
- Add the TV to Google Home. Google says the TV must be in Google Home for Gemini to be available.
- On an eligible device, open Settings > Accounts & Profiles > your account > Voice assistant to manage the feature.
- Use the remote’s microphone button, or “Hey Google” on a hands-free device with its microphone enabled. If you remove an eligible device from Google Home, Google says it returns to Google Assistant.
Profiles, privacy and answer limits
Gemini responses are limited to profiles associated with users aged 18 or older. Children’s profiles receive Google Assistant responses instead. Google warns that Gemini may produce inaccurate, offensive or inappropriate responses; do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial or other professional advice.

At CES 2026, Google previewed richer visual responses with images, videos and real-time sports updates; narrated deep dives on complex topics; Google Photos search, Photos Remix and cinematic slideshows; Nano Banana image creation; Veo video creation; and natural-language picture and sound adjustments. Google said these capabilities would arrive first on select TCL devices and then on other Google TV devices. A preview or roadmap announcement is not confirmation that a feature is available on every Gemini-enabled device.
