Google Playground is the more direct choice for prompting, refining, and sharing a lightweight game in a browser. Roblox offers two different creation paths: Build for simpler mobile-first games, and Studio Assistant for creators who want to work with scripts, project objects, assets, and 3D tools. The right fit depends on the kind of game you want to make and how much control you need.
How the options differ
“Google Playground vs. Roblox” is not quite a like-for-like comparison: Roblox’s AI creation options serve different levels of complexity. Google announced Playground as an experimental gaming platform on October 7, 2026. Roblox Build is a prompt-based mobile workflow, while Studio Assistant works inside Roblox Studio on a project’s objects, scripts, and assets.
Google Playground: prompt and play in a browser
Google describes Playground as a way to make a game by describing it in text, then refining its physics, rules, characters, or environment with follow-up instructions. Games can be played and shared in a browser. Google says they can remain private, be shared by link, or be published to the Playground Explore gallery; multiplayer is available in selected genres. The platform is experimental. Google has also announced a planned Unity Spark integration, but said it was in testing, with a closed beta coming soon—not generally available.
Google’s Playground Help Center says the service is available in the United States to users aged 18 and older, with additional countries expected later. Playing the catalog is free. Game generation has a free tier with limited tokens that refresh weekly; a Google One AI plan can provide immediate creation access and higher weekly token limits. Creation access is rolling out in phases, so eligibility does not necessarily mean access is already available to every user. These are launch details that may change.

Creators can continue editing published games. Changes remain private drafts until republished and reviewed against Playground Community Guidelines. Google says a game and its source code can be exported as a ZIP containing HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and generated asset files.
Roblox Build: a mobile-first route to simpler games
Build is a natural-language creation tool inside the Roblox mobile app. Roblox currently describes its focus as simpler 2D and 2.5D games, including clickers, arcade games, collect-and-score games, side-scrollers, and puzzles. Broader game types and 3D are future plans, not current Build capabilities documented on the Roblox Creator Hub.

Build provides a set number of free prompts each day, with optional additional credits purchasable using Robux. Roblox says availability is rolling out gradually, starting in New Zealand; the documentation describes it for users aged 9 and older who have completed an account age check in regions where it is available. Check the current documentation and the Roblox app for local access. The documentation says playtesting is coming soon, so it should not be treated as a currently available Build feature.
Roblox says Build games can be published to Roblox with one tap. Each Build game has one creator. If a Build game is edited in Studio, it permanently becomes a standard Studio game and loses Build status for that version. Build games default to an audience age setting of 16+; Roblox describes an application process for younger audiences.

Roblox Studio Assistant: more direct control inside a project
Studio Assistant is the more hands-on Roblox option. According to Roblox’s Assistant for Studio documentation, it can answer development questions, create or modify objects and scripts in a project’s data model, insert Creator Store assets, explain selected code, and generate materials, meshes, and procedural models. Roblox cautions that generated scripts may not work flawlessly, so creators should review and test them.
Other Roblox AI workflows can connect Studio to MCP-enabled clients and support creating or running scripts, editing instances, and playtesting. These capabilities are distinct from the current Build prompt workflow: Studio offers more ways to work directly on a Roblox project, but also expects more creator oversight.

Choose Google Playground for a low-friction browser experiment
Pick Playground if you want to start with a text description, adjust a game conversationally, and share it without making Roblox the center of your creation workflow. Its browser format and export option may also suit someone who wants to take the generated files outside the platform. Check that you have access to game generation in your region and account, since availability is limited and phased.
Choose Roblox Build for a simple game meant for Roblox
Build fits a creator who wants a mobile-first prompt workflow and is happy with the current 2D/2.5D focus and Roblox publishing destination. Before planning around it, verify that the rollout has reached your region and remember that the current documentation does not yet offer Build playtesting.

Choose Studio Assistant when project control matters more than simplicity
Studio Assistant is the better match if you want AI help within a Roblox project and are prepared to inspect, test, and refine changes to code or objects. It exposes more of the development workflow than Build, including scripts and 3D-related content generation, but does not remove the need to understand and validate what the assistant creates.

The official materials describe features and availability, but do not establish a head-to-head benchmark showing that one option consistently makes better games. “Better” therefore depends on practical fit: browser versus mobile app or Studio, a simpler prompt-built game versus direct project editing, and where you want to publish and share. Treat Unity Spark as a future possibility rather than a current reason to choose Playground.
Safety and creator responsibility
Roblox says generative AI content and integrations must follow its Community Standards and be transparent to users. Inputs and outputs for specified Roblox APIs go through moderation, but creators remain responsible for content delivered through third-party tools. Review Roblox’s generative AI policy before using those workflows, and review and test AI-generated scripts before relying on them.
